Any cars on the island were brought over by barge. You could probably bring a bicycle on the taxi. But because there are only a handful of shops, and one convenience store, we also had to bring all of our food and necessities. That made for a lot of baggage. I don't know the exact price as I wasn't paying the bill, but according to the website they only charge per person, not for the number of bags. Although they charge extra for bikes, kayaks, and paddleboards. The Lund Water Taxi staff were helpful loading the boat, but we had to bring everything from the car to the dock. Not to mention the other side where we had to get a land taxi (aka some guy with a pick-up truck) so we could get all the stuff from the Savary Island dock to our rental cabin. Although the good thing is that the Lund Water Taxi organizes the land taxi to meet you on the other side (extra fees apply).

I could get very used to this Island life…read more Second visit to the Dent Island Lodge was every bit as spectacular as our initial stay. Our water taxi arrived at the dock to a waiting staff that whisked our bags off to our room, and us off to the patio for drinks and an after hours lunch. That's a nice start. We fished for salmon the next morning. I caught a 17 pound Chinook and my wife caught an 8 pound Coho! Can't wait to get that shipment and cook it. Our guide, Harley Elias, was the best guide we've had for any adventure. He knew everything and had fun stories. After exhausting ourselves catching fish, he motored us to where humpbacks were recently spotted. Thar she blows! And as if this couldn't get any better, everything came up Milhouse when pods of orcas appeared on the other side of the boat. Caught in a tennis match of humpbacks and orcas, what an experience! All inclusive lodge and the food and drink were excellent. The chefs table at the rapids is a lot of fun, as was getting to know the guests passing through regaling us with tales of boating the islands of BC.

* SAILING CHANGES o4/14 *…read more Over 32 nautical miles to Comox. . This terminal also service Texada Island. There was barely enough to qualify a sailing, but off we went. We arrived in record time and since it was Daylight savings time last week it was still light when we made it to the resort. I Imagine it is a bit busier in the summer since they just invested the money in a small pavilion with washrooms.

SAILING CHANGES in effect o4/14…read more Wow, what a day. It started at 6am. My friend did NOT want to take any chances missing the first sailing up to the Sunshine coast, otherwise it would have meant arriving in Comox much later than planned since the ferries run at about 3-4 hour intervals. This ship seemed to be moving at a faster speed than others. My friend had made sure to print out all the sailing info from all the terminals were used that day and for some reason it said the sailing to Comox would be 2hours 20min. Imagine our surprise when we pulled in only 1hour 20 later. There was a TYPO on our directions!! We were so happy to get to the hotel an hour early.

Otherwise takeout is an option. Or ferry food once aboard. Note that the cafeteria on the ferry heading to Sultry Bay is very minimal. Loading was efficient though the loading staff directed us to a narrow upper deck that was difficult to exit the vehicle or navigate the slender corridor between the railing and cars and mirrors sticking out. I left my walker behind. I have a handicap sticker clearly displayed on the rear view mirror so it seems the loading person doesn't take a handicapped sticker into consideration. I'm sure there are older folks not handicapped significantly that would also need to avoid the narrow ramped parking "shelf". Next time I'll let the gate person know of my need to access the elevator. Still, I'm not sure why he put us up that narrow deck when it's an suv regardless of a handicapped driver but direct the small sedans to the main decks. Then again everyone is practically driving an SUV these days. So, communication is key. Anyway you don't pay if going to Salrty Bay which I guess is local knowledge but the gate staff said nothing. Seems BC Ferry Staff give you as little info as possible and signage is typically poor in these smaller terminals. There is a small foot passenger booth/waiting area, probably appreciated in the winter. The views are scenic and the trip is of a moderate in length. I'm sure there are older ferry staff try their best.

This ferry terminal is the smallest one I've ever seen without a booth or lanes since so few people use it. It almost sneaks up on you when you hit the end of the highway.

Accompanying my friend on a business trip which will involve three sailings in one day. Once we get off here we will head further up into Powell River to catch the ferry to Comox which is on Vancouver Island. Absolutley nothing stands out in my mind about this terminal.

Review: Words cannot…read moreexpress our appreciation and gratitude for OTB Charters and most importantly, its owner, Simon Hayter. What I was told was a regular evening of whale watching and a marine tour turned into what will no doubt be the most memorable day of my life and it is because of Simon's efforts, dedication, kindness and passion for his work that this was all possible. The story: I thought I was going to get off of the ferry, head to the marina and get picked up by a chartered boat company for an evening of fun with my boyfriend. What I did not know was that my boyfriend was making behind the scenes moves with Simon to orchestrate the best proposal ever. We missed our ferry, and would not be able to make our scheduled 5 pm pick-up time. This was no problem for Simon. He rearranged his insanely busy schedule to still make our evening work. When we arrived at the marina, 1.5 minutes after our scheduled departure time and tour, Simon arrived happily and excited about the journey we were about to embark on. He made sure we were comfortable with our life jackets and where we were sitting, and was exceptionally knowledgeable about all surrounding areas. About 20 minutes into our ride, Simon pointed out a small inlet where we would be able to see sea otters. Naturally, we agreed to pull over because - who doesn't want to see sea otters! We hopped out of his boat, hiked up a small hill, and at the top I found a fire bit, barbecue, a cooler with food, tiki torches and a blanket. It was at that moment, overlooking the most beautiful sunset, that my boyfriend proposed, and upgraded to fiancé status! Simon left us on this island for a few hours so that we could celebrate, eat, and enjoy the moment and view. When he returned, he made sure we were able to safely get back on the boat and to shore. Not only was Simon incredibly professional and knowledgeable, he was able to execute a plan that my fiancé had envisioned for years. Despite several hiccups on our part (and there were many) he was so calm and willing to work with us to make sure our evening was perfect. I cannot recommend this company enough for any chartered boat services they have to offer. The boat is comfortable, the view is breathtaking, the tour guide/driver is immensely knowledgeable, and if you want a special add-on, he will certainly do his best to accommodate. Thank you Simon and OTB Charters for your part in executing the best day ever - you went above and beyond, and for that, we will always be grateful.
