I would like to warn everyone how this company works and has virtually no customer service. I was…read moreacosted du my traumatic accident by an unknown tow truck driver someone I didn't call and he proceeded to drive me straight to a waiting rental vehicle before taking me to the collision reporting centre. I was emotionally in shock and my car was totalled . He drove m to the waiting vehicle before letting me report my horrific accident. I was instructed to sign the papers before I was able to report my accident. it was Friday of a long weekend. I am a senior and I was alone in my car. I attempted the following week to immediately return the car and they said they would charge me $1000.00 plus rent fees incurred for returning the car " early " They want all they could ge from my insurance and me. It is a total scam. After 6 weeks I was finally able to return the car because the insurance had settled with me. Another Friday of a long weekend I was instructed by the adjuster to return the car on Monday by 5 PM. I called over 100 times and the answering machine always said the ag were speaking to other customers. I called all weekend. I checked their website and nothing was said th were closed all the long weekend. I checked their site and it only said hours might vary! I was shocked to suggest improving customer communication in their advertising I was told well it is a long weekend. No one listened as I had never dealt with car rental companies before. I will never forget the extraordinarily poor service and attitude towards customers who are going through some of the worst e of their live. I could have been killed by the other driver. I wo never ever go back to this one or use a car rental service again if I can help it. Please be aware!!!

Payless Car Rental - Looks ok but avoid this rental car company at all costs!

    Payless Car Rental

This is a tough one to write. There are things I liked, and things I didn't…read more I ended up here because I used AARP to reserve this car rental, and Payless was on of their featured providers. I was a bit nervous because they were SO MUCH CHEAPER than everyone else. Usually that's for a reason. And there sorta was a reason. We arrived at the airport, and the paperwork says to get a shuttle. From where? It didn't say. I had to call them. Turns out you take the train (free) from the airport to the Viscount, go downstairs, and in the back corner of the lobby area is a courtesy phone. Call Payless (just push their button on the phone panel) and they send the shuttle to get you. They could have explained that to us instead of making us figure it out. So we get to the counter. Like most car rentals, there was a line. Fine. The clerk was reasonably polite, but then hit me with something new. Did I have proof of insurance? Huh? Never been asked that before! I was about to contact my carrier to get them to fax something when the clerk decided my AARP card was good enough. Really?? What does AARP have to do with proof of insurance??. But, hey, I'll take it. I am insured, even if I can't prove it on demand. They did take a $500 (Canadian) refundable deposit (which also is "new" for me). The car inspection process was normal, and we loaded up and left. Car itself was fine. Seemed relatively new, no problems. Brought it back with the same fuel as when we got it, just like we're supposed to. So do I just drop the keys with an attendant? No. Gotta go to the line. Turn in the keys, pay the rental (with assurances the security deposit will "drop off" automatically), and then we need the shuttle to the airport. To his credit our driver took us to the terminal instead of to the Viscount. That saves us a lot of time, I'm sure. We were getting tighter than I like in part because of traffic, and in part because the return process took nearly half an hour with waiting in line. I tipped him better than usual for doing that for us. In summary, I think I'll stick with the bigger (and more expensive) companies in the future. This experience wasn't as bad as others have described here, but I didn't like the non-standard things they did (like the deposit, proof of insurance, shuttle NOT going to the airport, car return taking so bloody long).

The day that I showed up, I was charged $585 USD or $797 CAD. I said no, I was quoted in CAD five times and received some muttering fool response "USD only USD only." Costa Rican's will do their best to take advantage of white tourists in general, but I would never recommend anyone does business with Payless, ever.

What's the point of making a reservation if it isn't honored? Leaving customers stranded in the middle of the night after confirming our booking is completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, we had no choice but to pay for a taxi to our hotel in the middle of the night because Enterprise failed to provide the car we had reserved. The customer service was unprofessional, disorganized, and showed no urgency or genuine effort to help. This experience caused unnecessary stress and extra expense after an exhausting day of travel. I will never book with Enterprise again and would strongly advise others to think twice before relying on them.

This is horrible customer service and we will not be renting from them ever again.
