This store used to take pride in their work. From the management to the cleaners. I shopped here when I was young. I moved away quite a few years ago and come back just for visits as I still have family and friends in the area. Well today we celebrated my dad's birthday. I came in to purchase a cake when I was on the way to their house. My dad, 78, is specific with what he likes. White cake buttercream frosting. I walked in, found the cutest cake, and purchased it. The ladies in the cake department, on point with personality and being helpful, that is why I am giving a 2 star. I took my parents to dinner then back to their house to eat cake. When I cut into the cake it was chocolate with buttercream frosting. I serve the cake and sing happy birthday and see my dad is happy but also disappointed, I mean it's the one time of the year he gets to have his favorite cake. After celebrating, I walk outside (approximately 6pm) and contact the store supervisor. The moment he hung up on me without a word should have told me everything. When I called back and he didn't apologize just said yeah when I explained I was holding for the supervisor should have told me everything about him. The audacity of this man to say well if you bring the cake back we'll exchange it in the rudest I can't be bothered tone. Not hey I'm really sorry about that. No hey let me see what I can do for you. No hey let me address this with the managing staff to ensure this doesn't happen again. No, the tone and attitude this "supervisor" had was condescending and judgmental, almost accusatory like I was lying. So, I am leaving this review and posting the picture I took of the cake and cover in hopes the store manager sees this. The tone your supervisors set is the tone your employees will have. Usually I don't get sandwiches from save mart but I have been recently. Today I was super disappointed. I went int to get a sandwich at the deli. I usually get the turkey sandwich like this one. The person that helped me usually give me more turkey than this. But today, it seems like they're just serving me bread, cheese, and lettuce from what I see. I questioned the person that made the sandwich but she just shrugged it off stating we weigh the turkey. Our one stop shopping for produce on our way to my family's cabin in Sequoia. The staff is always very friendly and the prices are always very reasonable. The only thing that is odd is the restroom. This Save Mart is a whole lot fancier than the ones I am familiar with in Bakersfield. There is a great selection of products, the store is really clean, and the aisles are nice and wide. The prices were very reasonable and many things were on sale. The things that really stood out for me were the deli and produce departments. Everything was very nicely displayed. The produce looked like it was in large wooden crates and everything was so bright and colorful, very healthy looking, and nothing was at all overripe or blemished. I was here to pick up a few supplies I forgot to pack for a weekend visit. I actually found a deodorant I like better than the one I usually use, Tom's of Maine lavender scented, mmm... I made a trip to this store yesterday, my first time ever. I have been in several Save Marts, and although they are a little pricier than some other chains I have never had a bad experience. Until yesterday. I went in specifically for the Deli. When I walked up I noticed three employees behind the counter. One off to the right, one at a counter preparing meat, and a young lady pricing and packaging cheese. My companion and I stood at the counter patiently, wondering if the clerk had a customer who had perhaps walked away and she was finishing up their order. She was engrossed in a personal conversation with her coworker and never once made eye contact or asked if she could be of assistance. After about three minutes of silence my friend said, in an audible tone, "Is anyone going to help us?" It was only then that she offhandedly asked if we needed something. We resisted a sarcastic comeback and gave her our order. This did not curtail the unprofessional conversation between her and her coworker, she was even able to turn around and make eye contact with him during their conversation. She did not say thank you or apologize for the wait, instead she laid the product on the counter and muttered, "There." I sought out the manager to complain about the way we were treated. He listened and said he would follow up. When I got to the check stand to pay for my items it was unfortunately an episode of Deja Vu. No greeting or eye contact, as a matter of fact, this checker was having what was obviously a personal conversation with his female bagger, much like my Deli experience. Almost any store you walk into these days has someone who automatically welcomes you. It seems like overkill but I am certain some focus group has decided that heightens the shopper's experience. Save Mart bakery on Walnut & Akers in Visalia did a fantastic job on this 50th Anniversary Cake. Ordered it on 11/10/19 and picked it up on 11/11/19. It's so pretty and the white cake with lemon filling was a big hit. Moist cake with great flavor. She did a beautiful job incorporating the look I was hoping for with the gold and touch of black. Another fail from the service deli at this Save Mart. I'm not sure food is as fresh as they advertise. Do not, I repeat do not waste your money on their Tri tip enchiladas. Tough chunks of meat with fat. You can't cut into with your fork and once you use your knife to cut up, you can't eat because the meat is in so many shapes and sizes. I'm not sure service deli is trying to win customers over or drive them away. It's very frustrating and it's not the first time I've gotten food that isn't fresh and just thrown together and a price tag throw on it. Also not professional to discuss who used the meat slicer last and then debate the issue when you have customers. Also it was about 2:45 in the afternoon and no baskets at the front of the store. Too many chiefs and not enough indians at this store. The manager stood in the bakery watching... shame on Save Mart. I'm giving This Save Mart location a 4 because I like coming here more than I do going to the other super markets. I know it's a little bit more in price and that's ok.. it gets me away from the crowds.. at times, it's peaceful shopping here.. lately though I've been running into the customers I'm trying to avoid from the other stores, the ones that "somehow" seem to go exactly down the same isle as you and "happen" to need to be "EXACTLY" where you need to be at that given moment. It's called SPAAAAAACCCCCEEEE people!!! I can always come back around if it's too crowded in a small isle full of people and carts for my bread.. don't need to crowd up the area and do the lingering stare into the bread like they're trying to use the force to pull it off the shelf. Either ask me to move or go away! Don't need you breathing down my neck for some sourdough! Lol. Similar topic on bread.. I got a Sammie from here the other day and man! The produce is always fresh. There are higher quality ingredients compared to other stores. More niche items. Decent meat section. If you don't look a certain way or fit into their preconceived stereotype then prepare to be berated by the staff. A couple of cashiers at the noble market come to mind. They are extremely rude and judgmental and size you up the minute you walk into their line. One day a cashier who'd been working at that particular store for several years now was snickering behind my husbands back . You could literally hear him say to another cashier jokingly saying 'get a load of that' while pointing at my husband, literally sneering at him because of his long hair and unshaven beard. As soon as my husband caught on to it he understandably became greatly offended for his unprofessional behavior. On another visit a 2nd cashier just seems to glare at you and give you dirty looks as soon as you approach the checkout . I don't know who these people think they but they seem to think they are somehow better than everyone else. Ordered two cakes this past weekend from their bakery for a family reunion. One chocolate and fudge, the other tres leches.. Within minutes both cakes were gone. The most memorable thing about this grocery store was the absolutely delicious navel orange I bought here and the extremely antiquated slow spinning check out tables that are part of each check out stand where new meets old: current grocery scanning, food placed on slow spinning table and clerk picks up items from spinning table and bags. read more
