It's always fun to see what treasures I'll find when I come here. Like with any thrift store, you can't come looking for something too specific; you've got to be open to what the secondhand inventory has available, which is ever-changing. This location has a decent selection, but it's fallen victim to understaffing and is often left with only a couple registers open and long lines. Even the self-checkout only had one register open today, so maybe it's more than staffing that is the problem. Savers - Cute! - Thrift Stores Near Me - Midvale, Utah

I can't believe how manipulative and dishonest the business model is at Savers! They receive their merchandise for free as donations from the public and then trick their customers into buying things they don't want. Getting rid of their dressing rooms and only accepting exchanges is a carefully planned out strategy. It forces you to buy clothing without trying the items on, which is a very important step in making sure you actually like the item. Then, once you get home and try the item on only to realize you don't like how it fits, you have only 14 days to return it. And even if you remember/have time to get back and return the item in time, you are told they don't give refunds and you can only exchange what you don't want for another item at the store (which the employee I talked to was not very up front about). So now you can choose to continue wasting time and energy by exchanging what you don't want for another item you can't try on in the store (which still may not fit and may require you to spend even more money). Or you can just cut your losses and keep something you don't want as a reminder of the money you wasted. Or you can donate the item that doesn't fit back to Savers and then they get to sell the same item again to someone else. It's basically a scam and I will never shop or donate here again. I am a total thrift store fan. I love that you never know what you'll find. Sometimes it's wonderful, sometimes there's nothing, and that is the name of the game! This Savers is like a secret awesome one. The DI near me is always pretty busy, but Savers is a lot less crowded. And it's pretty dang big! This location often has great books (especially cookbooks, although their prices are higher than DI), pretty vintage plates and serving dishes, vintage silk scarves, and nicer name-brand dresses. Their women's clothing section is HUGE. I rarely even look it over besides the dresses. The men's is a lot smaller, but I think that's always the case. The children's clothes section doesn't seem to be super large either. Their furniture is either way cool or ridiculously terrible. When I first moved here I bought a pair of super retro couches for $25. My only complaint would be that they sometimes (and this is all Savers locations) mark prices on certain items (like well known brands) crazy high. Like almost what you'd pay in a store....but I just don't buy those things. I like that Savers often has their little punch cards for an extra percentage off once you've spent like $50. It's easy to do, especially with books. It's also worth going when they do their 50% off most everything sales, just be warned that it will be kind of crazy. First i do gotta say savers is so very overpriced. This older lady working self checkout was hovering over my shoulder the whole time i was checking out which is reasonable cause it's her job. She went on to mention something about the price of my item which was a sweater that rang up 4 bucks. She told me it wasn't the tag to it and made a whole drama about it and was pretty much accusing me of stealing. Mind the 4 dollars was very reasonable for the sweater i got. She went on to charge me 8.99 for it but i still bought it cause i liked it. I just think the workers should be a little more mindful when pricing. Thrifts stores were made for people to get things that they are in need of, and over pricing things that a company gets donated for free just blows my mind. Let's work on kindness and not jump to conclusions. read more

So I didn't find Ghostbusters on VHS again, but I've been helping some family move and been more involved on the donation side of things. Most of the time, this is an interesting experience. I've made lots of donations (read: clean the house!) at other spots around town, but recently I had my first Savers experience. The good is, that once I got help, they were pretty helpful fellas. They didn't mind hauling some bigger items (a treadmill, for example) and were somewhat conscientious of my old truck. That's a real bonus when you have big stuff and there's no way you can haul it yourself. I was also really pleased that they gave me a punched coupon card as a thank-you gift. I have yet to spend it, but if they have Ghostbusters on VHS I may just know what to get. There is some room for improvement in the process, however. It was a little haphazard when I was there, and it was a weekday morning. And it took a while to find someone to help. Maybe they're more staffed up on weekends? Maybe they're more organized? I'm happy they're taking my stuff so I don't want to complain, so really there just needs to be some fine tuning. As for the inside of the store, and shopping, I don't find myself stopping here all of the time, but I do like to pop my head in occasionally. Normally it's books, shoes, and the kitchen stuff. Recently I've seen my record collection expand, but I've found that it's more about determining what you want, going after it, and finding it out in the world. So perusing the same ol' shelves here hasn't been as productive. Same with kitchen items--I'll check when I'm here, but I needed a pastry brush and a cheese grater, and I actually had them gifted to me so I didn't need to try Savers for those, either. As a matter of fact, there was a really blessed spell there where it seemed I had everything I needed sort of fall into my lap, so I didn't have much need to pop into Savers. read more

"Savers"...what an ironic name for this store. Savers charges way more than the DI and Goodwill. Anything that's a brand name, and that includes Target and WalMart brands, they jack up the prices -sometimes to what the items cost new. They do have a good clothes selection, but anything that's a brand name is priced waaaaay too high. Most of their electronics and miscellaneous items are just overpriced broken junk but occasionally you find something where the pricer didn't know what it was and so you can get a good deal. Make sure you also test every electronic device you're thinking about buying because they have no problem selling broken junk without testing it themselves. Savers is a for-profit thrift store that for a long time claimed to be helping non profit charities but they now play a message over the intercom disclosing that Savers is for profit and they do not directly help any charities. So at least they're being honest about that now. They have a new program where for every $100 you spend (only for club members) you get a 20% off coupon. But you must use the coupon, once earned, within a limited timeframe or else it disappears from your account. So, I don't know about you but it's pretty rare for me to spend more than $20 during a single visit to Savers. So I have to spend $100 to earn a 20% coupon that I must use during a small window of time, where I might save around 4 bucks if I'm lucky enough to find that much stuff I want in one visit. Don't mind me, I'll just be sitting in a well loved chair reading a well loved book, or ten. Seriously, though, the books! I know it's a very millenial value to "pop some tags" and "vintage clothes" are "on fleek" (ugh, that term is sooo 2017) I definitely love finding good quality clothes for kids who may or may not destroy clothes like they're going out of style (they are), but I could lose myself for a year in the book section. It's cathartic. In spite of the germ risk I take big, deep whiffs of the aging paper as soon as I get between those shelves. What's even better is that if you buy three you get one free. Eat that Amazon! You can find lots of other cool stuff at Savers (although sometimes it feels like influenza B is one shelf away) and great prices if you shop their sales. Sometimes their prices are up in the night though. I once saw a used JC Penny purse for $25.00 that only cost $10 new. Overall its a great place to lose yourself (just try not to lose anyone else) for an afternoon. read more

I absolutely love Savers! I've been shopping at Savers since I was in high school. I distinctly recall one of my first "finds" which was a work shirt with a name tag that read "Jesus" which I wore quite often. Ever since that initial purchase I have been hooked. In my experience, Saver's has a broader, more playful selection of clothes than Deseret Industries. In addition, the way they organize their clothing - by size rather than color (as they do at the DI) - makes a lot more sense to me. I have found a plethora of completely unique, vintage t-shirts, retro sneaks, old books, jackets (members only anybody?) as well as the occasional art print - I am still looking for that elusive velvet Jesus or Elvis. Typically when I buy art I will usually re-frame and re-mat it. I even found my 12" wok which has served me quite well, a fish tank, and a great sauce pan. I bounce between the State Street and Redwood locations however I frequent the State Street store more often as it is closer to my home. I find cooler things at the Redwood location though as less hipsters and treasure hunters go to that on. But the two stores are pretty much identical. They are both well organized and clean. The employees are nice and the crowd that shops here is suitably creepy. You are not guaranteed to find something cool on every visit, and yes, you will have to dig. But that is what makes it so fun... it's the hunt for treasure - the actual journey itself. read more

Went to jewelry counter and wanted 2 earrings and a heart ring the girl jacked the heart ring and put a different ring by the time I realized it was the wrong ri g I already had paid . The manager tried calling the girlnback to the jewelry counter and she would not come up . The main manager came to refund my money and she called the girl and it took still 5 more minutes and the girl acted like she had no idea what happened . I got the refund for the ring I really wanted and when I got in the car I notice one of the earings that were 14.99 was missing g as well off the card . I have showed savers ovwr 20 years and never has a employee rip me off like this so not only did she take the ring I wanted she took onenof the earrings off the card. I paid 14.99 to get 1 earing and not the ring I wants. I will never be shopping at savers. No only are customers stealing but your employees are steeling from customers. The manager told me to stop saying she stole it but it's true I looked at it tried it on and said I want this and she put a different ring in the bag and the heart ring miraculously disappeared are yiu freeki g kidding me. I am a local artist and a former loyal customer at the Meridian Idaho Savers and loved your things. I often used them in my art, but your prices have SKYROCKETED in the last month to triple the price they use to be or SHOULD BE. It is no longer a thrift store but priced at prices new items would be sold for at discount stores! I wanted to buy a garden dragonfly. It still had dirt and rust on it and it was priced at $29.99. In the past at your store and any other thrift store this may have been priced for $10 MAX. I spent an average of $100 every time I came in and will now be taking my business elsewhere until your prices come down again. I wrote to the corporate office telling them that they don't realize how many of their regular loyal customers they are losing and I assume it will fall on deaf ears! Those people are not in the same income bracket as the people that shop at their stores or they would not have changed their prices to be so high. It's a shame that the people that need it the most are now priced out and unable to shop at Savers. I can still afford to shop there I am not one of those people that depend on Savers for my family but I refuse to shop there now because of the price changes and what you have done to the people that did depend on your store for help. That was all I heard people talking about aisle after aisle when there last weekend...about how shocked and disappointed everyone was at the increases. I think corporate has NO idea of what they have done with this policy. They need to read their reviews because 90% of them online are negative and about the price increases. I am an obsessive thrift shopper, always on a hunt for the next bargain. My favorite finds ever are unusual knick-knacks or other decorations, and I always have a running mental list of books that I want. Savers is great because items from both of these categories in spades. I particularly like this location, where I once found an old, amazing edition of Thoreau's Walden for just $4. The best thing about Savers is that their prices are generally low. Compared to other local thrift stores, you can't do much better on nice pieces of furniture, linens, or housewares, which are generally also a cut above the selection at Deseret Industries in terms of cleanliness and quality. I also love the junk bags. Like, LOVE. They throw together random bags of small items and sell them for very little. Sometimes it's crap, sometimes it's treasures. It's all part of the fun! If I have one complaint, it's that their books are overpriced. Every day, items throughout the store with certain colored tags are on sale for next to nothing. This is NEVER the case in the book section, where novels regularly sell for $3-$4, which, in comparison with DI or Goodwill, is crazy. They must get tons of book donations. How do they move them? I have to REALLY want a book if I'm buying it at Savers. On my most recent recent trip to this Savers, I hit the jackpot with a really nice $13 leather storage ottoman. It was pretty dirty and had obviously been used heavily by children in its previous life, but it cleaned right up with a little loving attention and now it's a perfect place to put my feet while I'm reading on the couch! If you love the hunt as much as I do, don't pass this Savers by! There are some incredible gems here if you're willing to look hard. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. This was my first time shopping at Savers, as I just moved and Goodwill was farther away. I came to get some business formal clothing, and they didn't have any dressing rooms available. I asked an associate on the floor if they accepted returns, and she told me that they accept returns within 14 days if the tags are still on and the receipt is brought back. I went home and tried everything on and came back to return what didn't fit and was told they only do exchanges. The manager refused to even apologize that we were given the wrong information. He was very condescending and made no effort to be understanding, especially since this was my first time. I know he can't change the policy, but I was upset that I had checked to make sure they took returns and his employee misinformed me and he didn't care. I've always been a fan of a good thrift store. I love getting a good deal, and can usually find what I need at Savers. I prefer this location to any other thrift store in the Salt Lake Valley. It's typically clean, they always have a tag color that is half price, and there's always a lot of good books. I also have good luck finding gently used name brand shoes there. It's tough to find womens' plus size clothing at thrift stores because they are usually mixed in with the rest of the sizes. At DI, they sort things by color...which makes NO sense. I like to know that I can cruise the aisles for my size and not have to dig through a bunch of stuff that I know won't fit me. I go thrifting much more often when I know that I don't have to dig through piles and racks to find treasures. I stop by often because I know it won't take me long to see if what I need is available. Some people really harp on the Thrift Store scene, but it works for me and my budget--strapped family. read more

I decided to join the throngs and head to one of the places an e-bay seller friend of mine says is "the best." The truly best place I'd ever been for thrifting in Utah was this place in Provo occupying the space of the old BYU Women's Gymnasium across from the Provo Library, alas, some corporation bought the space and away went the best, least expensive vintage clothes store I've ever found. I digress. Savers is good. Great, actually. All thrift stores are hit and miss, as the inventory is so fluid, but from what I saw last night, I spent an hour and a half there and texted several of my friends they needed to come and then my boyfriend to say we need to come back for regular clothes and costumes - they've got it all right now. Savers has a special section just for Halloween costumes at this time of year - a couple in front of me in line bought the cutest fuzzy little ladybug outfit for only $2.99 and then a fuzzy lion costume for a child for $3.99. The section was huge for costumes - I just didn't get the chance to peruse yet. I'm telling you, the store is huge. The fitting rooms are clean, but small and dimly lit, so it was hard to tell how clothes really looked. It would help if there was one full-length mirror outside of the rooms, but there isn't. Of course, at about $3-$8 per item of clothing, I guess you can get a good enough idea - and I was pleasantly surprised when I got home that the clothes looked better than I thought originally. Savers also does a deal each day of the week where a certain color of price tag will be 50% off that day. They have a much better assortment than DI and I prefer their organization style of long, long rows vs. circular set ups - they are easier to browse and easier to avoid getting in the way of other shoppers. My final haul? 1 Pair of Express Slacks 1 Pair Banana Republic Slacks 1 Pair Ann Taylor Khaki's 1 vintage Houndstooth print pencil skirt that is to die for 1 pair of genuine leather pants (cause I agree with Ross from Friends - everyone needs a pair of leather pants, right?) This is one of my favorite thrift stores. I have found excellent items in their housewares section, including Dansk salad plates to match my parent's set! But it is a thrift store so you may not find something every time, you must be willing to return and sometimes DIG. Recent finds are baby clothes for my son. I do really love how much I've been able to find here. I think the selection is awesome. I usually hit up a few thrift stores when I'm looking (usually DI and Savers) and it seems again and again that this Savers has not only what I want but a few items for me to choose between, at least as far as clothing goes. I've also had some luck finding other knick-knacks - like a bamboo turntable this week! First, I find that this store is so much more organized than any DI I've ever been to. Very appreciated. It's usually pretty predictable what size you'll find where, rather than finding my size in the exact opposite size section. Even the knick-knacks are on large shelves making it pretty easy to see what is available, rather than digging through piles of stuff. I often come at Halloween for the Styrofoam heads :) Second, as I've mentioned, selection is pretty awesome. I don't really care that stuff be name-brand, but Savers is certainly ready to drop some names if it means getting you in the door. And they won't be lying. On the down side, two notes. Service can kind of suck. I've found some employees to be less than pleasant. I waited for quite a while trying to hunt down someone with the key to the changing rooms and they weren't too nice about it when I got there. Most of the time I don't want to interact with employees anyway...just in and out. But this hasn't been the standard. I've experienced good service, too. And the lines...OMG. I'm not sure if it's the cashiers or their machines, or the fact that they rarely have more than one or two cash registers open, but the lines can be pretty hellish. Other times its a breeze. This was my second time in a Savers store and I found this Savers much nicer than the one in Orem (my first time at a Savers). My biggest compliant about the Orem store was how disorganized it was. This Savers was much better in that category, the shelves were well organized and the store was a lot cleaner. So today I donated so furniture with some buddies and decided to check out what's inside of Savers! Wow not impressed! Old Navy well worn cargo shorts were tagged for $11.99. It was filthy inside with looser loiters! Nothing but junk and garbage was for sale. The best part though was after my buddy bought some books, he said can I have a bag please and the cashier said, "That's 10 cents. " I couldn't believe it! The poor robbing the poor! I'm giving the 1 star review for several reasons. I have only purchased clothing here so this review is not for books/bedding/furniture etc, but I did get these clothes at multiple locations. I have never. In my life. Had this much trouble getting the "thrift shop smell" out of clothing. I've never had to go beyond just washing thrift shop clothing once to get the smell out. I have now washed these clothes multiple times. Soaked them in vinegar. Covered them in baking soda for 3 weeks and then washing them again in vinegar. And still they stink. You also have to be extremely careful when getting clothing. I saw a lot of ripped in the crotch jeans. Clothing with stains on them (like paint, etc that wouldn't come about) that were priced the same as unblemished clothing etc. honestly. This is just the worst thrift store experience I've had and I have gotten a number of the clothes in my closet second hand. Do not recommend this company. read more

Their prices of shirts are great, but the prices of bags and dresses etc are about on par with Target or Old Navy. So why buy a used dress for the same amount as you would pay for a new, non-stained one from Old Navy? Also, they're pretty uncaring at times to the customers. I had several items that I was going to purchase (I DID buy a dress for $15 and then realized I was crazy) and there were a couple items that didn't have tags that I really liked a lot! I was told that if there are no tags, it's not for sale. I asked if I could come back and purchase and the salesperson looked at me like he was watching paint dry. Could not have been less interested. He would not let me purchase the two items that were pulled from the racks with no tags. A bit pricey for a thrift store. read more

I love this Midvale location. The redwood road location is a dive and so are the two so cal ones I've been to. Needless to say I was suprised to walk in and see how clean and orderly this location is. The quality and selection at this location is the best I've seen with alot of new things thrown in. the people that work here kinda freak me out a little but other than that I love it. read more
