As far as thrift stores go, this one is on the smaller side, but it packs a nice punch. There's a good amount of items inside and they are organized and displayed better than any other retail store I've visited. Seriously, it made my OCD so happy to see the shoes lined up perfectly and the books stacked just so. When I retire, do you think they'll hire me to come stock shelves? In addition to second hand items, that I assume are donated, I saw other goods on the shelf, specifically toiletries that were brand new. Perhaps overstock from stores? These included things like shampoo, feminine hygiene items, vitamins, etc. And the prices were really good-like, what you'd expect thrift stores to charge, but some of the bigger players charge too much for. Visiting my son again from California and my first stop was last Friday, Saturday and Wednesday!!! Service is so refreshing and everyone is so helpful! I'm a big thrifter so I was surprised when a friend suggested I check this place out and I had never heard of it, especially when I grew up in the town next door. This place is AMAZING. I really appreciated their slightly curated vintage selection, all priced at a steal. They had a cute Valentine's Day section that was also really curated. It was clean and the employees were helpful. I have a few things I didn't get that I regret so I will be going back really soon. read more

Decent selection and prices. I saw something a friend has been looking for for her wedding. I asked if they allowed returns as it was $90. No returns, I get it. When I walked away, two employees started talking about me saying, "she does not want to purchase b/c she wants to wear the coat to an event and then return it.' When I confronted them at the checkout, they made up a story saying "no we were talking about how we used to do that at stores when we were younger. Whatever, I heard them. I am so glad I stumbled on to Calvary Thrift Store in my efforts to build inventory for my "Little Free Library". My books are available in a great spot by the sidewalk, and is visited by neighbors on foot and by car. However, they do not need to return a book to take one. I accept donations on my porch in a bin, but I want to encourage reading more than anything. Calvary is where I come for NEW adult novels.Documentaries etc. Libraries have great sales, but they are mostly unknown authors. Here, I can choose some great reads for $1. I often donate items and sometimes drop off wherever is handy. But, I also go out of my way to donate at Calvary Thrift. I know every little bit helps. The store is clean and I find treasures. Laura...I am sorry you felt you had a bad experience at our thrift store, but I believe you are being less than honest in your review. I know every employee and volunteer that works there. I should, I am a floor manager. My name is Jeff. We don't "have" Jesus and don't sell such an item. We are a thrift store trying to support the community through outreach programs by donating profits to school teachers, families in need, children around the world to have a simple Christmas, and many who are trying to get a hand up to make it on their own. You may have confused us with some others who ask 10% of your wages to be right with God. Sure, we are a Non-Denominational Christian organization, but according to the Bible your works or any amount of money will not place you in Heaven. Honesty, kindness, and a just nature will... if I believed in Heaven. You see, I am a non-believer working with some of the kindest and generous people at Calvary Thrift Store. It hurt to see your review in Yelp because I believe it not to be true. Let's take your gripes point by point: There is a sign that states we cannot sell items without a valid price tag. Unfortunately, that is because some dishonest people remove or switch the price tags. It is unfortunate for us as well as the honest customer and we can figure no other way to stop this. We cannot hold items. All our items are one of a kind and we have no layaway. If we were to hold the items that weren't tagged, we would have to start a whole new department of holds, increasing our costs and the prices. We work mostly with volunteers and try to make every one of our generous donors' items stretch in value for our charities. I don't know how you arrived at the figure of $5 dollars for the dress if it was not tagged. Next you state that "a bystander begins to yell at me to leave". A customer asked you to leave? You note that the police were called. I hope you were not insinuating that Calvary called the police. I would have known about that inside or outside of our premises. I will contact the West Jordan Police department to see if there is a police report. Maybe you have a case #? That is not like one of our customers. They are generally pleasant and bring a smile to my life. That is why I work there instead of making millions in the information technology business, where I am a natural. Michele is a great employee of Calvary Thrift and we are proud to have her. She is also a floor manager and sometimes needs to enforce policy. The "No tag, no sale" policy is unfortunately needed to curb theft because we don't get 10% of all our customers' wages. To start my experience with this thrift store I donated a box of baby clothes. The boy who took the clothes was nice and after giving me a 20% coupon for my donation reminded me they also have Jesus... I'm spiritually but not looking to see Jesus while thrift store shopping. Excited to look for my daughter's Halloween costume we went in to begin our search. We found a little black dress and a cape that would work well for my daughter's costume. A lady employee took her time to help us out she was nice too.After looking around at the rather small second hand store we proceeded to the check out. As soon as I get to the line I see a sign that states all UN tagged items will NOT be sold and it takes 24hrs for items to get tagged. Under that sign is another that states they will NOT hold items. The little black dress that my four year old loved so much was of course not tagged. After minutes of explaining to the cashier how important this dress is (hand made of black velvet,very simple) and even though it's not worth $5 I will over pay. No luck they would not sale or hold for me. I demand to speak with the management,the cashier in a snobby tone says I will get her But she will tell you the same thing. At this point a bystander begins to yell at me to leave. Declaring me an UN fit mother because I said to the cashier this is BS. I then ask the crazy bystander to please stay out of this and she stops for a minute because at this point the manager is also giving me the nope nothing we can do look. I state my frustration and vent how sad for my daughter nothing works. At this point the crazy bystander is saying horrible things and coming at me to leave. I am shocked! The store manager calls the police and I wait in the parking lot bewildered this all happened over a little black dress. The lady officer arrives and without asking me what happened demands my license. After twenty min and two officers later I get my license back and a little chuckle from miss police officer. She agrees the bystander had no business getting involved,the policy is silly but understandable and the thrift store manager said they will hold the dress until tomorrow. Wow had Michelle promised me that I would have left happy and possibly return. So much for having Jesus..... If your passing by keep going and head to the Desert Industry they tag items on the spot and I have always left with a good feeling. read more

I finally decided to check this store out after I seeing it while driving by. It is such a cute little second hand store owned by the Calvary Baptist Church. I believe all items are donated by the members of the church. I picked up some really cute dinner plates and candle sticks. They have a good selection of home decor items. I wish I could have spent more time looking around, but I came in 10 minutes before closing. It looked like they also had a nice selection of other items as well. I've only been here once, and I was thoroughly disappointed in the service I received. I found a pretty decent belt for $1, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. So I went to the register to purchase the belt and the lady appeared to be fairly nice, so I walked up with a smile on my face expecting the best. She took the hanger off, which pulled the tag off with it. Then she proceeded to tell me that because the belt didn't have a tag on it she couldn't sell it. I told her she just ripped it off and she started to sass me and tell me that she was just following the rules. I figure that if that's the kind of customer service I can expect from Calvary, then there's really no purpose in returning any time soon. read more
