Yes Metroland, I am talking about you. I took your recommendations. I travelled far and wide. I have read your ongoing reviews periodically. Frankly, it has been a waste of time and calories. I wish there were better food writers in the capital district. Or even bad food writers with good taste. The additional star is for proving at least a modicum of good taste, by giving Capital Q a glowing write up.

Finally got a check in the mail and it bounced. I contacted them again about it and once again was met with no responses. What kind of company doesn't pay people for services rendered? And what kind of company deals with said non-payment with the mentality of, "If we don't acknowledge them, maybe they'll just go away?" Total bullcrap. Needless to say, I'm never doing work for them again, nor will I bother reading their paper. I have yet to come across a company that has worse business practices. So, thanks for nothing, Metroland.

And not only that, but it has attracted a community of creative and curious people who truly love living in the area. Some of my favorite features are Deanna Fox's food finds every other Tuesday, and the Neighborhood Roundups of the best local blogs every Wednesday. Of course, I'm always hoping to see my own blog appear on that list. But it's great to see what others are writing too. AOA isn't afraid to go deep, and share nitty gritty details. It's not uncommon for the editors to share spreadsheets so readers can dive into data. And the AOA audience will do just that. Plus the publication hosts its own events, which are a blast. I only wish I could attend more of them. I will confess that the inspiration to organize an Official Yelp Event aboard the Dutch Apple came from missing out on the AOA cruise back from Hudson aboard the boat. Anyhow, checking out what is being written on the site is part of my weekly media diet. And I encourage pretty much anyone who wants to develop a deeper love for this place we call home, to check it out.
