Good spot for a great beer selection, but you really have to be careful about filling your growler here. I've been here numerous times when all of the beers out of the taps were either flat or sour. My latest trip I bought a growler of English ale. Shame on me,, I didn't sample it first. When I got it home and tried it sure as hell it was sour. I don't know what they do with their kegs or their taps, but most of the time the beer out of them is sh*t. Stick with the stuff in the can or bottle in the fridge. read more

Love the variety, and love the people in the shop. Because of the variety and the staff, I am giving this a three star review. Unfortunately, they do not do a good job of keeping their front clean, and allow unsavory organizations and individuals camp out in front of their building. I once ran into this organization that was very aggressive, stopping everyone that came in the door. When people are out getting beer, they don't want to feel guilty they are not donating half of their hard earned money rather than buying beer. We decided to stop in here and check it out since we were in the neighborhood. Really glad we did because they had some West Coast stuff we haven't been able to find since moving from the PNW last year like Rev Nat's and Heretic. They also carry Deschutes and Old Rasputin and have a selection of CBD beverages. Savor Growl is a place to fill up and sample beer. It's more like a convenience store than a bar. They have a bar with several taps. It's not somewhere for you to hang all night. They also have convenience store food and snacks. From the outside it looks like a place to pick up a pack of beer. It's like going to a convenience store and being able to have samples before you get beer. The samples didn't really cost anything, though a tip is expected. No one at the store said anything about a limit, but just don't go crazy. Try a few beers and then go to a reach in cooler and select the beer you liked. If you're hungry they also have some food. This is typical convenience store stuff like pretzels. It has lots of craft beer. It's just kind of overpriced. You can find many of the same brands in other local stores. read more

Absolutely love this place! They have the largest selection of beer that I know of in the area. A mix of hard to find beers, local beers and your run of the mill every day carbonated water lol. I stop in once or twice a month to stock up mainly on stouts and porters, with some IPA's mixed in. They also have a large wine selection, but I have no idea about wine, so I can't speak of the selection. The employees there have always been helpful and personable. They have a gyro truck outside that I'm guessing is only open in the summer, the gyro's are great! read more

They do have an excellent selection of beer, as good or better than most places in Columbus. There are a few others that are on par with Savor Growl. But the management at this store it what keeps it from being top notch. They don't put prices on beers, especially the pricey ones. I don't know of any other store that does this. Stopped by here today to check it out and maybe grab a growler, and ended up bringing home a mini-growler (32 oz) of Bear Republic Black Racer. It was definitely hard to just choose one - but sometimes economics and time just limit your ability to enjoy multiple craft brews in larger quantities. The gentleman behind the counter was inviting and very courteous. Explained the layout of the growler bar; they have 5 or 6 different growlers available for purchase, and BONUS they will fill growlers from other places. Will definitely stop by in the future. Semi-convenient location just a couple minutes off of I-71, great selection, friendly, and I got the feeling that the gentleman that helped me enjoyed what he was doing. read more

This is so much nicer than the old Weber Market. Had dinner nearby with out of town friends during the summer and walked over to get some beer for porch drinking. One of our friends tasted and the other asked questions to find Ohio wine and mead to drop off as presents to other friends during their road trip across the states. I wandered around aimlessly just looking at different shelves to see what was offered. I've enjoyed my trips to Savor Growl. You would want to stop here fore 2 main reasons. 1. They have a very good selection. Nothing overly rare necessarily, the beers you find here you can find at other shops in the city. But, it's as good of a selection as I've found. 2. The staff that I've encountered have been friendly enough and knowledgeable. Prices are consistently $1-$2 higher than the grocery store and they don't put prices on most of their items. It's not that I'm cheap. But, when I go out to buy craft beer, I go out with a budget in mind. With a wide selection, I'd like to do mental math to decide how I want to spend my $30, $40, or $50 that day. You can't do that here, and that should change. Overall, it's a great spot and I'll keep coming back. read more

This place has an exceptional selection. Frankly, it can be overwhelming. There's just so many good choices. Really among the best in Columbus. I would have given this a 5 star review, but, the prices have increased so dramatically in such a short period of time that it really can only be interpreted as greed. I was especially shocked when I found another area beer store with a similarly high-quality collection that was selling the same ultra-premium beers for significantly less ($17.99 vs. $21.99, $13.99 instead of $19.99). Given the fact that it is the exact same beer, it's really hard to justify paying that much more, even if I like the selection. The owner is friendly and cheerful, but he also tries to sell me things that I don't want and have never remotely indicated being interested in. It feels like he thinks I like all expensive beers uniformly, when in reality I like specific styles and enjoy beers at all different price points (yes, even the expensive ones). Of course this is a business and he is trying to make money, but the market is a two-way street, and given how much money he is trying to make off of me, I simply don't feel inclined to come here as often as I used to anymore. read more

Really cool concept, and, when they are all tapped (which isn't often from the looks of it), the most taps in Columbus! Savor Growl is a carryout with 60-65 draft beers on tap. There is a long bar behind which these taps sit, but this is a standing-only bar because you are not meant to drink here. Just sample (an unwritten rule limits you to five samples), pick a beer, fill a growler, and be on your way. In addition, it also has a beer cave, wines, and limited snacks typical of a carryout. There is a very small wall of cigars as well. This used to be Weber Market, a decent carryout itself, but the place looks incredibly more clean and has undergone a bare bones kind of remodel. It smells heavily of wood now, which I quite like. The floors are nicely tiled, as is the growler bar if I recall correctly. Also really cool, the owner of the place literally sought out one of Columbus's more knowledgeable, friendly and talkative beer aficionados. His name escapes me right now, but he was the manager of Andy's Carryout for years and years, under at least three different owners. When the owner concocted the plan for Savor Growl, he literally approached this dude about managing it. And so he does. It's a great fit. Couldn't think of anyone better to run it. So with all this praise, why the average marks? Well, primarily because of the selection and variety. The beer cave in particular is unimpressive considering the availability of options at some competitors. Even the taps, although numerous, didn't offer much beyond what I've seen elsewhere, and as mentioned up front, a good ten of them didn't even have a beer on them. They advertise the cigar selection rather boldly, and it was unimpressive given the equal measure it is given on the front signage. There is nothing wrong with three stars, and Savor Growl is A-OK, but if they keep those taps full and expand their offerings, this could easily be a four star place. When this place first opened, I was excited to have a legitimate bottle shop close to home. After frequenting this place several times, I go elsewhere. The service is sketchy at best. Some of the staff is friendly and engaging, others are what you expect from a convenience store. The only thing I've noticed that's consistent is that the growlers are routinely underfilled. Yes, the 64-oz line is normally right where the neck meets the body of the bottle but most brew pubs, taprooms, and bottle shops top the growlers off to push out any oxygen. When they do that, you can save that growler for up to two weeks in the back of your fridge. Leave all that head space and the beer will skunk out in a day or two. I've also had beer that tasted like it had seen better days. I'm not sure if the lines are being neglected or if the kegs are being exposed to heat, but it's foolish not to sample a beer before you buy it. As for samples, the state only requires a nominal fee for a sample. These guys could be pouring a bigger sample for 50 cents. Sometimes you barely get enough to swish around your mouth. All of this supercedes that dirty trick these clowns tried to pull by reselling Hopslam. I'm over that, but I'm definitely keeping my eyes on them. Bottom line, this is a hip looking place with an impressive selection of beers. The problem is that the owner doesn't love beer. He loves money. Corners are cut, the staff is underpaid, and customers are squeezed for every penny. Now, I'm actually embarassed that this place is so close to home. I fill growlers at Studio35, or Weilands instead. read more

I never bothered to stop at the old Weber Market, but even so there's no doubt its new incarnation as Savor Growl is a definite improvement. Savor Growl offers a pretty broad selection of bottled beer, and wine as well, but it's real raison d'etre are the sixty craft brews on-tap that you can select from to fill up your growler. You can buy a growler at Savor, or bring your own that you purchased elsewhere, they're fine with it either way. And yes, you heard me, sixty different brews. It's a pretty nice beer selection - lots of standout craft brews (Rogue, Ommegang, Dogfish Head), a solid representation of local brews, and all straight out of the tap. Price-wise there is definite value once you get past the purchase of the growler (which at 7 bucks is hardly an impediment). Draught craft brews you can take and drink in the comfort of your own home. What's not to like? read more

This place is fine. It has a good number of beers to choose from, and you can bring in whatever growler you have at home to fill up. You can also buy a growler there if you don't already have one. It is very bare bones. You just come in to get a growler filled and get on your way. I think it's kind of lame that they charge you 50 cents per sample in what looks to be a salad dressing container. I also got the sense from the guy who was serving me on a Saturday afternoon that he didn't want customers to linger. He limited me to 3 samples, and wanted me to make a choice as soon as I finished my third sample. I've been here twice now and I'm very impressed. I went the first time to check out the space and didn't buy anything, but today I came back with my fiancé to pick myself out a small birthday present. This place has an amazing beer selection: six packs, bombers but the star of the show is their draft selection. You walk in and see the sixty beers on tap, all with their own brewery handle. The variations are displayed on a chalkboard above the taps. Savor Growl has a variety of growlers you may purchase there and take home to keep. Also, they offer 32 oz. bottles for their taps, for, as the cashier/owner (I believe) said, are good for a Monday or Tuesday, while the 64 oz. growlers are good for the weekend! The service was excellent here as well, the guy behind the bar gave me good advice on a new beer to try. Which segues nicely into another great aspect of this place, the samples. Savor Growl will give you a 2 oz. or so sample of any of their drafts for 50¢! I ended up getting the Ohio Brewing Maple Porter, a nice change from my obligatory IPA. All in all I was very pleased with this place, I can see myself coming back here weekly, if not more! And by the way, I prefer this place over the Daily Growler. Savor Growl is cheaper, less busy, more casual, they will fill up any growler, not only one with their name on it like Daily does, and the 50¢ samples are awesome. Plus it is significantly cheaper, Savor had a decent amount of beers under 10$ for a growler, which is hard to find at Daily Growler. Check this place out! You won't regret it! read more

This place used to be Weber Market, which was just a bodega/corner market type of establishment. They have rebranded and switched up their wares. Now they sell predominantly craft beer, some wine, and also refillable growlers from tap. It is a wonderful idea. You can get 50 cent samples of anything on tap. They have at least a couple dozen beers on tap for filling growlers. The inside is clean and the selection is very broad. In fact, the only critiques I have are that they organize the beer in the cooler by brewery and not by style of beer and they do advertise as having a cigar/tobacco selection but it is pretty clear that isn't their focus. If you want good beer in this area and are interested in fresh draughts in growlers then this is the place to go. read more

Stopped here while driving by on a road trip. Huge selection of cold beer. I have never seen a place that offers growler fills on over 20 different beers. Also, pretty awesome that you can sample each beer on tap before you buy (I think it was 50 cents a sample). The "warm" beer was mainly the new releases and the specialty bottles (another couple stopped in the store while we were there looking for a case of warm PBR for a float trip but this location does not carry warm beer for the most part). The guy running the register was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the beer. I would totally frequent this place if I lived in town. read more

Savor Growl: The beer snob's beer snobfest, in the best possible way. I stopped in to grab something quick on the way to a party, and walked into something more closely resembling Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory....but with craft beer. You get the idea. I was especially impressed with the amount of local brewers represented here. I'm currently riding the "buy local" trend, so it''s refreshing to have an opportunity to replay the beers that I've enjoyed during my nights out. I'm a huge fan of the staff here as well! My Sherpa of Stouts walked my through several excellent suggestions based on a couple of my vague non sequiturs about how I select beers. I love Savor Growl. I've never reached a sample limit (not for lack of trying!) and love the frequent rotation of awesome beers on tap. We have a handful of growlers and go back all the time to refill them. The employees are super knowledgeable about their beers and are always willing to recommend something tasty. We have an extra growler because the keg kicked on us and the employee let us have a tiny-growler for free-- definitely a way to secure a repeat customer! I also love their selection of bottles-- I found my favorite grapefruit Hefeweizen and it was like the heavens opened up and smiled on Savor Growl because I haven't had this stuff in nearly a year! read more

Came on a Friday night and there were only two employees working (one at the register and the other at the draft beer.). so first off the place has a great selection. i'm not the most savvy but compared to other beer stores around the area you are sure to find something new and cool. Which is exactly why i went; because I wanted to get some special brews for a special someone that I knew I couldn't get at my fave place, 14-0. However, savor is just not worth stepping foot into. it's all so overpriced, there are either no signs or confusing signs making navigating the maze of beer difficult, and the customer service is pretty much the worst i've ever encountered. And I understand, I really do, retail jobs suck, dealing with difficult customers can be frustrating and emotionally draining and most of the time the customers don't bother to give those trying to help them the respect and consideration they deserve. I've worked in grocery stores, restaurants and now do customer service at a busy library which let me tell you, those customers give even less of a shit and in fact they will often just shit right there in front of you so what i''m saying is; i have low expectations, am empathetic and try to be extremely respectful & friendly if only to make their day better since i know how it feels on the other end. a good interaction can totallychange someones day so i walk in. two employees are working; one seems to be covering the register and the other one is busy stocking. Neither one says hi or any kind of greeting or acknowledgment. Okay, fine. They could be busy or maybe just didn't see me. I'm cool with it. I then spent at least 45 mins browsing the store where there were times that there were no other customers and if there were it was like 2-3. Still, not once did they ask if i need help finding anything or acknowledged my presence. I tried to gently nudge a conversation in that direction by asking how the beers were organized hoping that he/the cashier dude would then be like "oh theres someone here, can i help you find something?" i received the shortest most curt reply that made me feel like i was bothering him.(he wasn't doing anything) he said the beers are "basically" organized according to brewery. if you've been in there then you know theres much more to it than that. but i didn't want to press further &annoy The whole time i browsed i was never offered any help or guidance (you would think that those who work in a beer store would kinda love talking to people about beer or enjoy introducing them to things that they think they might like.this strategy might also might help with sales too huh? and honestly it makes working at a job like that so much more fulfilling when you can have positive interactions with people. and it demonstrates the value of the business and employees while creating a mutual respect that keeps people coming back) I literally looked through every shelf at every bottle of beer with zero acknowledgements when really I think anyone would recognize "oh hey, maybe they need help or are looking for something specific or have never been here before" i ended up asking for a pen so i could right down the names of the beers i might be interested in and circle back since i was literally combing the shelves trying to find something but didn't quite know what my final decision would be. some advice from beer store employees could have cleared that right up quick. i would listen and appreciate the advice. then after finding the beer i wanted to get for my friend i wen to look at the single beers/sixpacks. I asked a simple, clear question: "are the cutsom 6 packs one price or is each bottle priced individually to create the total" The cashier (a heavy set white dude with blondish hair (gotta say mentioning his weight isn't supposed to be a cheap shot at shaming someone for their weight- just a general description in case someone else reads this that might want to hold him accountable) His response was confusing & annoyed like I should know already. i was definitely frustrated but paused and took a breath and then asked if he could come explain it to me near where the single beers are since he was shouting over to me from the register. he restated what he said and i was like "okay, so they're individual priced then?" no response. shouldn't be that hard to provide a clear answer. maybe i'm an idiot though. after that i decided that i'd been disrespected enough and wasn't going to buy anything after wasting an hour there. so i walked out & silly me; i forgot about the pen i used to help myself. i heard him growl "well what about my pen" (finally noticed me!) so i thought for a sec like, its just a pen i should just leave. but i returned it, saying"thanks for the great customer service!" went to 14-0 where my dude helped me pick stuff out, pull beers for a custom 6 pack & let me hold the cat to "ease my stress". spent 3 times at 14-0 than what i planned to at savor. + el latino right there, the smell warms your heart. it was my first stop so maybe it was just that one guy? read more

The old Webermart was convenient, but the Savor Growl is a destination. After Andy's closed this place became my go to place to pick up beer. Great selection, clean store, well stocked, and lots of local snacks. Their staff is consistently friendly, knowledgeable about their products, and able to give great recommendations. Not really into the whole growler concept but I have sampled a few tasty brews and they have all of my old reliables to send me home happy. No, I want to try. 50 cents a sample isn't cheap, but, again, I was sampling, not drinking. A woman mentioned "come July you wont have to charge for samples!" and that middle eastern/greek chauvinist berated her like none other. "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? THAT IS NO LAW!" (Spoiler: it is.) "So all the drunks will come in asking for free samples?!?! NO!!! NO!! that is not the law..,," As if, in his limited undestanding of English, and the legal system, he thought that he would be compelled to give free samples, versus establishments who make good on the customers and have felt forcing a prospective customer to pay a quarter is stupid, he took it as if he had to give free samples, and everyone is a drunk!" Her and her partner cashed out. As did I. Great selection. Poor pours. Engraged, angry, management, and why bother? Savor Growl is a small, but outstanding beer store. They had an outstanding collection of rare bottles, including some I'd only ever read about. As other reviewers have noted, their prices are a bit on the high side, but just the fact that they have these rare bottles available at all, coupled with their knowledgeable and friendly (and amusingly snarky) staff makes it worth it. My wife and I get to Columbus a couple times a year, and I suspect we'll be back here again. read more

They charge $.50 for the smallest sample and $1 for cheap caps on refills. Great place in CVL to have a quiet beer. The bartenders are friendly, service attentive, and there are a couple of TVs if you want to watch a game. Recently I noted that they're also making some custom OYO cocktails. Had one with bourbon and stone fruit vodka that was quite deelish. Lastly, though the bar has no food options (other than some pre-packaged snacks), there are several places that deliver including Granddad's Pizza and Clintonville Pizza Primo. read more

I've been to Savor Growl a few times and will never return. Though employees are friendly, the owner is unpleasant and condescends to feminine women. When the owner and I were the only two people in the store and I spoke directly to him about whether he planned to expand selection of a particular style of beer, he blew me off and told me to go look in the cases for myself (where I already was looking). In a conversation with him and my (more masculine-than-I) wife about beer offerings, he ignored all my comments and spoke only to her. On other occasions, I saw him respond in a much friendlier manner to men than feminine women. There are so many growler places in Clintonville. I will never support this one. read more

I have been getting beer here on and off for a few months. My boyfriend suggested we stop in and get a drink on the way home since they have a bar inside. He ordered a beer and I was feeling liquor. The bartender suggested a mixed drink she made before. No doubt it was good but I felt maybe there wasn't enough liquor in it or maybe it was just so good you couldn't taste it. I had her make one more and watched this time. Sure enough she barely poured a shot it it. When I received the bill each mixed drink was $8 each! Needless to say we will never drink at this bar again and probably never buy beer here either. read more
