Centuries ago people spent years travelling to find spices, now we can get most of them in your local mega-mart. but there are still some spices that for some reason are not in these emporiums of plenty but that is where Savory Spice Comes in. Carrying spices that are not easily found. For me personally it's green peppercorns-a vital ingredient for a beef sauce Ii make for the holidays. When you walk into the shop you're stuck by the masses wave of the stock but the friendly staff is happy to help you find hat you're looking for. What speaks best for this store is that when asking in other places in Lahaska for the pepper corns several places said "try savory spices' that's right, they're referred by potential competitors as the place to go. Not a 'I can order them' but 'Try this place...' That says a lot about them. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because it is a trip and you're going for something special, not general uses, I mean you can get paprika in the mega-mart. but for that odd ball spice, make the trip. read more

I have been ordering from Savory Spice for many years. Last year, they advertised a Black Friday sale that simply said "Spend $100, Get $100". Great! It's the holidays, and these are good gifts. I purchased a gift set and waited for the code, which didn't come. Customer service informed me the $100 credit wouldn't be available until January. This was misleading when advertised as a "sale", but I figured I would wind up using the credits later on, and I went ahead and purchased another $100 gift bundle. Now I am trying to use the credits, and I've been informed that they are issued in $20 increments - ONE per order. I wrote to customer service because this is super inconvenient, but also prohibitive. Many of their items are more than $20. So anything I want to purchase over $20 (vanilla extract, gift sets, etc), the remainder has to be paid out of pocket by me despite having $200 in credit with the company. While they did send me a shipping code to use, they were entirely inflexible. Using the credits is labor intensive and restrictive to certain items, and I've had to go through and choose things based on price to add each cart up to $22, apply the codes, and then still pay the remainder. I'm extremely disappointed and I am no longer a Savory Spice customer. I will source herbs and spices from a company that values their customers and doesn't play cheesy games with "sales". read more

My wife stumbled across this store while on a business trip to Tennessee and when she came back, was on the search for one in PA and fortunately there's this one up in Peddler's Village. Lots of different spices to pick from and we've enjoyed the various ones that we've tried to date. Some of the spices are unique that you won't find in your typical grocery store. It's a relatively small store and when you walk in, the smell of all the spices will definitely hit you! Staff is always friendly. Prices are on the higher side. read more

This is a hidden gem in Peddlers Village. We really like their Cajun Blackening Spice and use it all summer in our grilled burgers. This is a fantastic addition to our summer barbecues. They also have a great chipotle spice that I add to everything. The bottom line is whatever spice you want, they probably have it, and it will be much more tasty than any spice you can buy at the grocery store. read more

Loaded up my basket with super cute items and put it all back after a horrible experience with the customer experience here. There was miscommunication about not being able to smell the products. Every shelf had containers WITHOUT seal proof barriers. I thought these were the "demo" containers for smelling (obviously with my mask up). I asked about them, but Instead of just clarifying the "no smelling" rules (that were not posted anywhere), The insufferable clerk very rudely scolded at me "No one wants to buy products that you've stuck your nose in!!!". Could have been handled way better. Especially since I was so excited to drop a couple hundred here. read more

Ok shop to find some slightly unique spices. A few items were priced competitively with supermarkets but most are more expensive. The shop smells great, and you may be moved to purchase something exotic which you may or may not ever use. I saw a mole powder and some cool sea salts that aroused my culinary interest, but was not inclined to make a purchase. There are tasters of most items if you are unfamiliar with them, or just want to compare with like spices in conventional stores. read more

Love this store although it's only been there a couple of years. With the hot sauce shop gone in Peddlers village this is a nice addition. A small shop with plenty to take in. As soon as you walk in the aromas of the spices hit you like a wall. Although pleasing to me and many others it might not be your cup of tea. A definite gourmet of spices and great cooking ideas. I could not just choose one. They even have genuine extracts. Not just vanilla, but butterscotch, espresso and rum. The blend of spices and seasonings which many have testers. You can sniff and taste before you buy which is right up my alley. They have a decent selection of pepper spices, chilli powders from all over and even some gourmet curries. Pink salt if that's your thing to dried hot peppers to cinnamon. Their grilling rubs sound delicious. They are moderately to run of the mill price some are expensive depending on what you pick. But a grocery store can sell you a watered down version of curry powder for 5 bucks and less than 3 oz. Why not pay a little extra and get a damn amazing curry powder that has flavor. Definitely worth a stop in you never know what flavors await.. read more

When I find a dish I truly enjoy while dining out, I'm often tempted to reverse engineer it and make it at home. When finding a dish with a unique spice signature or a complex blend of ingredients to produce that memorable culinary event, I do my research and get to work. The Savory Spice Shop closest to me, in Peddlers Village in Lahaska, PA., offers me any and every spice and herb I can think of. They are also wizards at creating blends to satisfy most tastes and needs from the more common to the exotic. Barbecue? An entire array of rubs and sauces await you. Middle Eastern, Caribbean, Indian, Asian, Creole? They have it all. Their shelves include taster jars that allow the aspiring chef to sniff, taste and compare so that your search for that unique, "I'm not sure what it was" spice is successfully found. And if you're not in the area you can visit their website. I've a good 50-60 spices and herbs in both my kitchens. The majority come from Savory Spice. I have made the effort to compare their offerings with supermarket products and the freshness of a small shop with high turnover beats the now seemingly stale products on most big store shelves. And no supermarket will ever offer as complete an array of spices and blends. If there is a better place to shop for the ingredients that will take a favorite recipe and make it memorable, I've yet to find it. read more

One of my favorite shops to go into within Peddlers Village. One get get totally lost in here taking in all the wonderful fesch scents of all of the spices. I started out buying by the ounce here and gradually grew my collection quite large over time and expanded into they're glass jars which are great because then you can just buy it by the bag after. I love spending my money with this small business it makes me happy to support them and see them grow. They have always treated my wife and I with such great kindness and the staff are very helpful. I recommend making an effort to try out this shop when you find yourself in the area. We always stop in when in the popular New Hope / Lambertsville area we never leave dissatisfied. read more
