I just got my first box from SavRaw. And maybe my expectations were set too high but for $55 juicers delight "Bigger" box home delivery, I got jipped. You cannot modify your box contents but you can add to them. I figured spending this amount would be a nice variety. This is what I received: veggies 3 bunches of celery (out of all the juicing veggies celery is my least favorite) 4 bunches of beets (nice quality) 2 black kale (ok) 2 collard greens (1 bunch was way less then the other & slightly wilted) 3 med cucumbers 4 mini zucchini green (all 4 fit within the palm of my hand) 3 mini yellow zucchini (all 3 fit in my hand too) fruits 6 navel oranges 9 oranges (varying soft) 1 tangelo Maybe because I used a coupon for 10 off? But you would think SavRaw would want to keep my business. I understand whats in season, but what they are advertising is very different. And don't give me "bottom of the barrel" produce just because its for juicing. Carrots and maybe a different variety of fruit would of been acceptable. As it stands I will not want to get another box. Ps its not all organic either which should be more cost friendly. read more

I recently moved back to LA and was interested in subscribing to a CSA for fruit only. I had a really good experience with a CSA in college and I thought it'd be the same here. Not the case. I paid 33 dollars (the box is really 28 but they charge 5 for delivery) and I got some of the softest oranges I've ever seen and damaged fruit. I'm pretty disappointed because I've had such good experiences before, but this was bad. I also expected more fruit for the price. Look elsewhere for your produce needs. read more

I used Savraw for two years when I lived in Los Feliz. I loved getting a big box of veggies twice a month. Most I would use to juice, and it introduced me to new never before eaten veggies and heirloom varieties. I also liked how you can customize the deliveries very easily. Plus a lot of times the delivery person would call me if they were close. I often posted my box on my FB feed and friends of mine who had other CSAs were so impressed with the quantity and look of my produce. I'd never tried any other CSA because I liked how small business this one was. Emails and questions were always answered promptly (couple of days) and they were always friendly. I really wanted to join them again. The produce was in good shape for me. Its not grocery store porn-look produce. There might be some blemishes but nothing major. I rarely care what it looks like as long as the produce tastes well. read more

Disclaimer: this is a long post because I am passionate about SavRaw and what they're doing!! I started subscribing to SavRaw Farmbox in January 2014 and was so pleased with this local, family owned business and the quality of their food that I decided to volunteer with the company. Let me say that the produce is awesome, but it is so much more than that. Subscribing and volunteering with SavRaw has undoubtedly been one of the best things that could have happened to me. Not only have I majorly improved what I put into my body and my overall health, I also feel rooted to the food that I am eating because I know where it is coming from. Now that I've been eating SavRaw produce for over a year, I can literally TASTE the difference between their produce and what you can buy in the market. Even organic produce purchased from Whole Foods or Trader Joe's just can't compare!!! If you are concerned about eating only certified organic, it is important to note that many small farmers cannot afford the cost of becoming certified. This does not mean a lower quality product or that they are using conventional industrial agriculture practices!!! I have found that these farmers go above and beyond what it takes to become certified organic, eschewing pesticides and implementing sustainable practices in their farms. It is clear that they put so much care and attention into growing the best food possible, and the produce proves it. SavRaw's owner, Kali, has a personal relationship with each farmer she works with, taking the time to learn about their individual practices and struggles out on the farm. Personally, I'd much rather prefer to support these local, small farms as opposed to large, company-owned chain health food stores. By subscribing to SavRaw farm box, you will inherently begin eating seasonally, and enjoy a variety of truly local foods. I've started to really enjoy this way of eating. I now look forward to the foods that I eat during their natural growing season, let me tell you a tangerine is SO exciting when you haven't had one since the previous season! The variety is great because when left to our own shopping habits, most people tend to purchase and eat the same foods over and over. By eating a variety of foods, you will automatically be consuming a wider variety of nutrients, without even having to think about what to buy at the market. One of the benefits that I enjoy the most is how long the food lasts. I swear I have saved produce even up to 4 weeks (and longer) that still tastes incredibly fresh. Of course this is my own experience and it depends on the veggie, some produce naturally lasts longer than others, but I've been able to keep food fresh for much, much longer than any produce I have ever purchased before. Since SavRaw's produce is picked only days before it is delivered to you, the shelf life can be extended well beyond what you are used to buying in the grocery store. In the end, this saves so much money because you don't end up throwing away food that has gone bad before you can eat it. I should also mention that on the rare occasion that a customer is not satisfied with their order, Kali makes every effort to correct the issue. Just email her and she's more than happy to make it right! That's the difference with a small, local family owned company like SavRaw. Customers have the opportunity to communicate directly with the owner of the business. If you want something that isn't listed on the website, contact Kali and she is always quick to respond. Please be assured I was not asked to write this review and I am not a paid employee. With this post I wanted to share my experience to people interested in subscribing to a CSA farm box, to help others in their search for the CSA that is right for them. UPDATE! After two months of deliveries, I can say with confidence I am as pleased with the additional deliveries - no, MORE SO - as the first box I received! We aren't really fruit eaters as much as we are veggie eaters, so I contacted SavRaw to see if there might be an option for all veggies that I just wasn't seeing on their website. The website doesn't have nearly the bells and whistles of some of the other farm box companies, but really, am I worried about a fancy-pants website or fantastic organic produce? Lo and behold, the OWNER herself, Kali, contacted me back and said she'd be MORE than happy to provide me with a veggie only box. She wanted to know what we liked and didn't like. We chatted back and forth quite a bit about recipes (she was so kind to share several with me for eggplant once I found out my hubby didn't like it - a fact I was unaware of!) I told her I was kind of a tomato FREAK, and this past Sunday, there must have been 5 lbs. of tomatoes in the box, and they are DEELICIOUS!!! You haven't lived until you've seen the giant bunches of basil (roots attached!) that come in these boxes. I have been having a blast making pesto! AND THERE HAS NOT BEEN ONE BAD/BRUISED/ROTTEN ITEM IN A BOX YET. It's not really that hard, is it? If you're packing the box and something looks rotten - don't put it in there! I've been a customer since February 2014 and I have always been so satisfied with the produce. I have always gotten a mixed veggie and fruit box. The quality of the produce is unbelievable and my health and overall physical well-being has drastically improved thanks to Savraw. While my husband and I started off with the small box, we're upgrading to a the full box because we're incorporating more fresh produce into our diets. The veggies and fruits are so good that they have actually changed my diet for the better. I actually CRAVE organic food now! I never thought that would happen to me, but I'm happy it has! There's also lots of variety. I've been happy to discover new fruits/veggies that I would have never considered before they came with my box. It's a great way to try new and healthy fruits/veggies. Other than the actual quality of the produce, there are more perks to Savraw that make it a better CSA company than others: convenient and plentiful pick up locations so you don't have to pay extra for delivery, a weekly email with a list of produce you'll get in your box (makes it REALLY easy to identify things and helps you with meal planning), and an affordable price. I initially chose Savraw because of how cheap it is relative to other companies. But it still doesn't skimp on quality. read more

I wanted to love this company. I really did! I had a friend rave about who has been using it for years. I decided to try it. The fruit and vegetables that were delivered were in such a sad state of affairs. Soft, mushy tangerines, brown hole ridden apples, soft celery, grungy carrots... I gave it two weeks to make sure I didn't get a "bad batch" but they were both the same. Their website is never updated so you have no clue what is in the box... Sorry Savraw!!! I hate leaving low reviews but its just not up to par. :( read more

Gets delivered to my home every other week, comes out to $27 for a "small" box. It's not so small for a single person though, even though I only get it every other week (called "biweekly" on the website). Example contents of small box below. It's probably more pricey than shopping at trader Joe's where I usually go but it's very high quality produce, you can really taste the difference. It has a lot more flavor than regular supermarket produce, especially the fruit. Also, I like how I get produce I wouldn't normally buy at the market, definitely encourages variety in my cooking. Usually takes me at least a week to finish all the produce, most of the time two weeks. I do find that I usually need to supplement the box with normal produce that might not be in the box if it's not in season but that I use regularly, like onions, tomatoes, avocado, potatoes. I love this service...I hope it always stays this great! I have done other farm box services in the past and 1. the variety has never been impressive and 2. I could barely get 2 meals out of a box (same price as Savraw)...and the amount of veggies just got smaller and smaller every month. With Savraw, they give plenty of veggies and every week I get excited for the variety...it's a fun surprise every week! The quality, the taste, everything is awesome. We've been getting a small veggie box for a few months now and we're really enjoying it. Another reviewer talked about how the organic produce tastes different, even from organic produce at Trader Joe's or Sprouts and I have to agree. We have had some of the best varieties of lettuce I've ever eaten anywhere. At first I thought the price a bit steep, but a couple of trips to the Encino Farmer's Market made me re-think that because most of the vendors there aren't even organic and they, as well as the ones that are organic change quite a lot for produce so I've settled in comfortably to having a nice box delivered to my door every other week. Looking forward to spring and summer and more varieties of fruits and veggies. So far so good Savraw. I went with 4 stars only because once or twice we did get an item that seemed a bit wilted. That was when I was meeting the driver at the USC drop-off for delivery. The weather was still very warm, so kind of understood but since we switched to home delivery it hasn't been a problem. read more

I've been a weekly customer of Savraw for over 2 years. I get the Full Veggie Box which provides plenty of veggies for two for a week, plus a small selection of fruit. The organic food is always fresh and delicious. Since you're eating with the seasons, expect to have to open the recipe book and learn what to do with that never-before-heard-of veggie! Delivery is easy, and they'll even put your produce into an cooler on hot days if you leave one out. Loving the recent add-ons too like fresh eggs, dates and Life Force chocolate. I have tried other produce companies and Savraw is the best. Everything comes fresh with a good variety and quantity. I feel so healthy after eating everything they deliver!
