This is one of those places that's all about making money not developing a loyal customer base. Save yourself some time and aggravation go to Lundeen's on Main st or either Jewel in town for your liquor needs. On one occasion I bought 3 bottles of wine for $25 each. All were so old and corks so dry that the bottles were corked. They would not take them back or offer any discount on purchasing more only offered to exchange them for the same bottles on the shelf. What would the purpose of that be? Maybe if only one of the three was bad that might have made sense. They have a glass cabinet with scotch and whiskey that not every liquor store has in stock. Well to be honest the only reason they have them is they are asking so much more than retail it must take quite a while to find a consumer rich enough that they just don't care and pay the price. Bottles with a retail prices of $119 that most liquor stores who mark the prices up and ask $199 for they have in the case for $650 plus tax. Yep marked up almost 6 times what it should cost. Had lots more bottles priced similarly just not as bad. Either you want people to come in every week or month and buy or you could care less if they ever come back because there's another sucker with money about to walk in the door. Clearly they are all about the quick hit and big profit. Kinda sad. read more

This is a great place to stop in real quick and grab some things on the way home. They have a very large wine selection. The beer selection is pretty good as well. I walked in looking for assistance finding a gift for a gentleman who enjoys a rare cigar and whiskey. Dave was there and was full of knowledge and information about the multitude of selection. He was so helpful about selection and even knew about cigars as well! So being a non drinker I received a brief course in whiskey, scotch and bourbon and was able to make a decision with extremely helpful information. The gift recipient was delighted, never having tasted the award winning bourbon before, having just recently talked to another fellow about the very bourbon I gifted him! I purchased two kegs of beer from SavWay for our Summer Party once again this year. Something told me to go elsewhere considering they tried to keep portions of my deposit last year but I wanted to give the town of St. Charles the business since that's where our company is. We tapped the kegs and had them ready for the party but noticed one was not working very well. It was such a pain and would barely come out that no one ended up drinking it, and at $199 a keg that was a shame. When I brought all the items back I told the gentleman at the counter what happened and once he saw the tapper he said "oh, I don't know why they gave you that one, it doesn't work. They should've given you the short one." My mouth dropped open. He said he would call MaryBeth and see if we could get a refund for the keg since they gave us faulty equipment and we returned the keg full. She immediately said no and wouldn't consider anything. Such a shame to treat customers like this, I made sure to tell the entire company to take their business into Geneva or West Chicago but not to go there. read more

Me and my neighbors go in there at least once a week. Never an issue with staff or merchandise. Selection better than Binny's? No. Prices better than Jewel? Yes. I am always greeted and asked if I need help (even though they know that I probably don't) and it does not matter who is working the store either. read more

My husband has been their most loyal fan. However, after being humiliated by the clerk at the front of the store for brining my infant son in with me to get some wine for an upcoming party, I was then humiliated at check out (all for no good reason). The story goes like this...I walked in with my infant one day as my husband was at work. I tried to put him in the cart and was told, " we've locked those up" and given the look as if I was some crazy mom coming in. After that, I was going to checkout and was told my card was declined. I tried another card and had the same message. The cashier proceeded to tell me, " if I had a nickel for every time I heard this was in error I'd be rich." I left the store (almost in tears) and called my banks (all of them) and was told that none of them received an inquiry from the store. This is a sign that their point of sale terminal may have been offline or down. Subsequently, I made a purchase at Binnys (within an hour and less the cost). The clerk was super unprofessional and I will not go back. I've also told my friends and family that live nearby my story. The reaction was unanimous. read more

Savway is not the greatest but the convenience factor bumps it up a star in my book. That, and the fact that the staff is incredibly friendly..especially this gentleman, I don't want to call him old but like late 50s ish that is there a lot of the time. He even recognized my egregious consumption of Bud Light Lime a Ritas and introduced me to the 12 pack of 8 oz cans, like that's something I need to welcome into my life. Luckily, it's winter so those calorie-sugar bombs are a distant memory for the time being. Also, they run good sales on both wine and Belvedere which happen to be two of my other faves. I also like how it's never crowded so the lines are never long. It does teeter on that fine line of having that musty liquor store feel so I don't like that. But it's close, prices are good and the staff is nice which is really all I can ask for in. Bonus for their frequent wine tastings. Although I never frequent them purposely, I have wandered in and gotten to try some new wines. Also, this one is better than the Geneva store. Jussssss sayin. read more

I love SavWay! The staff is very nice and knows a lot about wine. They have some unique wines for a good price. I love their tastings as well, you can learn something and find something you like. It's such a great value, to taste sometimes up to 60 wines for just $7! Good way to stock up at the tasting sale. read more
