Outstanding Service from Samantha and Gerald - Highly Recommend Sawyer, now AmeriGas! I recently reached out to AmeriGas (formerly Sawyer Gas) in Jacksonville after years of the tank sitting unused. The first of several calls were frustrating due to the automated system and long wait times, and it was 48 hours before they called me back. But that was quickly forgotten thanks to the excellent follow-through. Samantha called me back and was incredibly friendly, patient, and efficient in setting up the service appointment. She made the whole process smooth and stress-free. Then Gerald, the technician, came out and truly impressed me. He was thorough and professional in the completion of the work. He addressed the wait due to staff training and professionally represented the company throughout. He carefully inspected everything and made sure the tank, lines, and hot tub heater hookup were all safe and working perfectly. Gerald is the perfect example of great on-site service. If Samantha is the voice of AmeriGas and Gerald is the face, then this company is in excellent hands. The delivery driver ran over my sprinkler head nearly two months ago. I was told I would be contacted by local office to rectify the damage. Never contacted, when I call they place me on hold for hours without asking so I will hang up. I want there tank out of my yard. Zero customer service. If you stay on hold too long they keep turning up the volume hoping you will get annoyed and hang up. I strongly urge you to not use Amerigas, find a local company where you can talk to a person in person, not a call center in India. read more

I've been a customer for nearly 15 years. Seems always have issues with price, timely fill ups and general customer service. But nothing bad enough to switch. Earlier this week, we receive an e-mail with new terms and conditions that indicate that no signature is needed. But effective in 30 days we will now be locked into a 3 year contract that is automatically renewable. Thank you, but now you've pushed it too far. Get your propane here if you really love being overcharged and receiving lousy service. If you rent a tank from them, they alter you contract at will and never in your favor, overcharge average local propane prices by a huge margin, want to fill your tank frequently so they can levy a delivery fee, a bogus hazardous materials fee and continue to demand a extra fuel cost fee after gasoline and diesel price have come down since $100 per barrel of oil. Complete rip off firm. I'm charged $1.09 per gallon in Georgia with no add on fees at all, last fill up by these guys in Green Cove Springs was near $4.50 a gallon! About twenty-five years ago, I bought my own tank with a gas fireplace from sawyer gas. Now, TWENTY-FIVE years later, I get a notice that I now have to rent MY tank THAT I ALREADY OWN!!!! They are charging me $100 a year rental and will not acknowledge that I own the tank unless I can produce a receipt from the original purchase date. When I ask them to produce a rental agreement that I signed, I was told that they didn't have to give me one, because the burden of proof is my responsibility. CROOKS!! I called and was on hold for 10 minutes before they told me the delivery had not been made and they could not tell me when it would be made. This company is absolutely the worst company I have ever done business with. I ordered propane on 1-19-18 with a delivery time of 7 to 10 days. On the 29th I called and they said we were not scheduled for delivery. On the 30th I called again and same BS answer. They said someone would call me and of course that never happened. Completely sad and the worst customer service I have ever had to endure. I'm today's world who takes 7 to 10 days to deliver the only product they sell ? It's only propane. Sawyer Gas used to be terrific, but they were acquired by Amerigas, and they are the worst. They apparently have very few local people. They are unresponsive and not helpful. Predatory billing and price gouging in Elkton Florida. They charge me almost 6.00 per gallon, that's absolutely ridiculous and 3x the national average. I live in a neighborhood where amerigas runs a tank farm. I complain every month, they lower the bill and then bill me higher the next month. I have a security camera pointing at my gas meter, not once in 4 years has anyone ever came out to read my meter. They obviously bill you what they want and hope you ignorantly pay without question. What a terrible company. NO MORE. I'm going to fire up the entire neighborhood and put a flyer in all of our 300 driveways urging all residents to stand up and say no more by leaving horrible reviews, contacting the BBB and calling amerigas to complain. I had Sawyer gas for 20 years and I was paying 20 dollars a month for my bill, well Sawyer gas sends me a bill for 700 dollars, I call them and asked them why my bill so high, and they said that for 20 years they had been charging me the wrong price. So it took them 20 years to figure that out with out no one catching it. They were responsive on the sale of an expensive fireplace and totally nonresponsive on service. They told me to go find an independent contractor (which I did). Then when we ran out of gas they told me it would be sometime in the following 3 weeks! And to make it worse I had to be home when they filled the tank but they couldn't tell me when that would be. Spent ridiculous amount of time on phone setting up service, was charged a 59.99 fee for dispatch and 100 something for some bs inspection and then gave cc info for these charges and a full refill just to have their collections calling me and trying to charge late fees for invoices I agreed to pay in advance. I have to say goodbye to Sawyer Gas. Supposed to be on auto refill, ran out in October - someone not doing their job. Had to be at home so they could go thru and make sure all pilot lights were relit. Called yesterday saying my tank was at 30% and on generator. Said they would make it a priority to get to me in next 24 hours, called again this morning saying I was down to 5%, said they would let distribution know. Generator died, no propane, no Sawyer. Called again, NOW they tell me no trucks are in the area......... Ever since they went o Ameris Gas no one cares. You can't speak with a real person at a real location. Your dealing with a call center who could care less, YET the give you the rehearsed line "We are so sorry.....", and then they type a message to an unknown person at the distribution center. Luckily, I have only used their services for 2 years. So sorry for anyone else that have to deal with them. I knew I was terminating services and moving. With a balance not yet 30 days old, I have been waiting for a final bill as of July 31st when terminated services. Yet, these deplorable people, did not terminate my services and continued to bill. The sent account to collections and yesterday they started calling. I asked where is my final bill and no one seems competent to answer the question. Each call agreed to me recording and I did. I got a call from Jacksonville local office saying she will look into it. But one issue is that I did a 100 dollar deposit on the account. once all is settled, I am due to pay them $15.73. But another issue is the supervisor of Jacksonville said she don't have answers to why I didn't receive a final bill then said they did not send my balance to accounts receivables to collect on past due amount. She also said they need to get a final reading. Well, I have been out of that home since July 17th. Don't they think that if they went out today, that I am not responsible for anything used once I terminated services on July 31st. Well, that call, too, was recorded. Why would they be calling me without local office forwarding account. So, once I receive my final bill with deposit credited, they will get their $15.73 and a BBB complaint. read more

Hilarious timeline of my interactions with Sawyer Gas: - September 9: Gas goes out. - September 9-October 22: DAILY phone calls with Sawyer Gas begging them to come out and refill our tank. - October 24: After I yell at the Sawyer Gas rep, they finally agree to send someone out. - October 24, 3:00: Man comes to my house and tells me that I have a gas LEAK-- meaning that my house has not been safe for the entirety of the last six weeks! He says someone will call me to set up a time to fix it. - October 24, 5:30: Man calls me and says that he came to my house to fix the leak but I wasn't there so he left. I never got that call to arrange the time. I'm pretty close by so I ask him to wait 10 minutes. He says "You're not my boss" and hangs up on me. I swear this actually happens! - October 24, 7:30: After I call and complain, the corporate Amerigas office goes red alert! They tell me to call 911 because of the safety risk of the leak (which, frankly, also seems crazy) Corporate forces the guy to come back and secure the tank. I schedule a time for Sawyer Gas to come out and fix the leak today, October 27. - October 27 (today): They don't come. I call and wait on hold for 30 minutes while they figure out what is happening. They tell me that they aren't coming!!?! They ask me to call back next week to set up a day (that's right, you have to set up an entire DAY because they won't give you a time). The worst! I switched to a different propane company (Wolford) and they provided Sawyer with a new tank (so mine wouldn't have to be dug up and replaced). I continued to receive bills from Sawyer and had to call to remind them that I was no longer a customer. After one of my calls, I came home to a service notice that they had disconnected my tank! So I had no propane even though Sawyer was no longer my provider!! I called my new company who immediately called Sawyer to have them send a technician back to my residence to restore service. 4 hours later, he arrived. THEN, I get another bill from Sawyer!! I called and spoke to the manager (who is sorely lacking in interpersonal skills); she put me on hold without asking, kept me waiting for 4.5 minutes, and then disconnected the call. This is a no star rating: I had been with Sawyer gas since 1997(60 gal tank for fireplace). A couple of years ago I went on auto-delivery. Last Oct '17 the tank ran out, checked and it had not been filled for almost 2 years. I was charged $59.99 to re-light the pilot light. In March '18 the tank ran out again. When I checked there was no gauge on the tank and I noticed the date on the tank is 11/96. The tank should have been replaced years ago. All I have is the fireplace (which was used this winter). Maybe the old tank was leaking???? Check the dates on your tanks! read more

After a quick glance through these reviews, I seem not to be the only one that has problems with Sawyer, especially recently. I have been a customer since September 2005, and have had intermittent issues with their customer service, but none like now. Our account has been auto-delivery (every 4 month schedule) since 2005, but all of a sudden our account has been placed on a "Will Call" status. We have run out of gas and I cannot operate my appliances. The worst is that they told me I have to pay the full amount of the tank fill (and I have a 120 gallon tank) and it would be an additional 7-10 days before they have a delivery route in our area. So now that is an additional 7-10 days of microwave meals and cold showers for our family of 5, and a huge chunk of money. They stated that all customers received new T&C's for delivery and payment matters, but that the "Will Call" status did not need additional notification to any of their customers. Next step after writing this review is to find another vendor. Thank for treating your customers with care...I will never pass along any positive feedback on this company. read more

When we bought our house in 2014 our subdivision has propane lines to the houses serviced by Sawyer Gas. I'm not sure why they went with propane instead of natural gas, but I wish they would have! Our house has two items hooked up to the propane--the hot water heater and the furnace. WOW is it expensive! In summer time we regularly get bills for $65+ per month for just the hot water heater. In summer. in Florida. We have the water heater set on normal, too. Not like we're cranking it up. In winter time we get propane bills over $300 per month with the heat set at 68 degrees in our house and usually we're only running it at night since it's warm enough during the day to have the heat off. That's crazy! I've noticed several of my neighbors use AA Bottled Gas, which has a tank hooked up outside their house for propane rather than a direct underground line, and I've heard their bills are much less. Time for me to investigate switching because Sawyer Gas is a rip off! read more

Worst ego and service of any corporation (including Comcast). Quoted 7-10 days for refill service but would not guarantee a date or time. So they think I'm going to camp at home for 10 days hoping someone shows up? Manager finally promised Friday demanding up-front payment. Please get your gas somewhere else. They don't deserve one star. Moved into our new house Dec 19th and on Jan 8th still working with them to get the gas account activated and gas delivered. I can't count the number of calls, promises to call back that never come, visits from two technicians - one who did a safety check and one who did something at the tank. All was approved and safe, yet still can't seem to get gas delivered. Different stories with each call. And always a promise to call back that never comes. What a disaster! Shouldn't be my job to be at home and educate each new driver that we have two tanks and the location of the tanks. Then have the delivery guy get angry that I am frustrated that this continues and continues over the years. It is a complete monopoly as the cost to change is astronomical. I would give a 0 also if it were listed. Sawyer has us over a barrel (we didn't choose Sawyer - the builder of our house did over 14 years ago). Sawyer's quoted prices for propane are 25% higher than 4 companies I called! I checked into changing companies - but where Sawyer put the tank I would have to remove a fence, shrubs, etc. We checked to see if Sawyer would make a deal for the other company to use the tank....of course, they said no! So, I'm stuck with paying way too much for propane! Price isn't the only reason I checked into other companies....customer service is terrible! Avoid at all costs. The service is terrible and they are dangerous. We suspected a gas leak in the house for year, kept calling to report smelling gas, had several "inspections" and they said everything was fine. But we went through 400 gallons in one year, when all we do is use the stove two or three times a week. Then we cancelled the service and had new service initiated with another company and asked them to come remove the empty tank (we had been without gas for a month), instead they came out and filled the tank, in spite of the leak in the house. The new gas company immediately found a major gas leak in the house and shut it off. I'm filing a complaint with the state regulators! If I could give them a 0, I would. First call was around Nov 20 and was told we would receive gas 1st week of December due to Thanksgiving holiday. No gas 1st week of December. Called end of week and was told would get gas by 1st of next week. No gas delivered. Called around that Wednesday to ask about delivery and was told they would try to come out. In the meantime, they charged my credit card around Nov 22nd for 2 tanks of gas that we do not have. Found this out because we received statement. This is when I started sending emails to corporate office. 3 emails went out before I was contacted. Apparently emails were not being routed correctly. We finally received refund and 3 months later, the empty tanks were picked up out of our yard. Within 10 days of empty tanks being picked up, we received a bill for $59.99 for them finally picking up tanks. No matter what you do, DO NOT GET SERVICE FROM THIS COMPANY. read more
