What a completely incompetent organization. They don't train forward-facing staff nor do they provide staff in customer service, billing and internet support with the tools they need to do their jobs. JEA likes to screw with their customers and make them jump through hoops like they are performing circus monkeys. They put up barriers to people paying their bills through their own website for some unknown reason that makes absolutely no sense to anyone nor can anyone in leadership at the company explain all of the barriers. I am certain there are many employees at JEA collecting a paycheck for unnecessary or completely non-productive work. I can tell you that I have never once gotten a rebate that I submitted through JEA. I have never gotten an adjustment to my sewer bill for two separate occasions where someone turned our outside water spigot on when we were out of town. Both times resulting in bills that were over $1,000. And now, I changed banks and have been fighting with these idiots for 6 months to allow me to update my banking information so that I could pay my bill and continue with autopay that I have been on for the last 20 years without incident. JEA seems to have major issues with their billing. All of the sudden I am showing a bill for 398, when I received a bill for July indicating I owed 187. I had the utilities disconnected on the 14th yet I'm being charged 398 dollars for utilities I didn't even use! I have never had this problem and my utility bills are always paid on time. I'd like to have them make the necessary review and adjustment. Even with 187 and 82 it doesn't add up to 398. Something is going on and they need to stop scamming people and raising their bills. I don't even use 398 dollars worth of electricity, the sewer and water appear fine. Read my meter two times in three weeks which is suspicious. Update; I got my bill fixed and I paid it once JEA confirmed it. So just watch your bills and make sure you are paying what you actually owe, not an inflated bill based on a mistake. read more

Very shady and very corrupt; always raising rates for their customers. Telling you and me that we own JEA, it's a community owned company, while screwing us over financially. Well if I own it, I want to cut my losses and sell this losing company. I won't say JEA is the worst electric / water provider I've ever had as it's just a tad bit by a little margin better than some of the EMCs I've belonged too; but then again we use to get yearly rebates from the EMCs. Where to begin... the monthly sewage bills are based on "estimations" which can exceed actual metered usage by around 20% in my experience, they charge a fee for online payments, and they charge you for services they don't directly monitor. Would love any other alternative but jea has a monopoly so we are stuck with them. read more

EVERY month I have to call to understand why my bills has over $200 of "other charges" which are normal fees that they can remove but charge anyway. If possible, don't use this company. 100% agree with all the other reviews that customer service is horrible and billing is not consistent and even when a service is not used, you are charged for it. They offer "extensions" yet it is not clear that if you avail of it, you will still be charged a $15 late fee, so if you don't review your statement, you would not be aware of it. The system also does not update if you pay your bill in advance of the due date. We noticed a service on our account that was never required, and while we did not expect a credit going all the way back, we did expect at least a partial credit, as the service was never used and the records show no usage (it was a "bundle," they said?). The customers have no choice of providers, so JEA has no incentive to provide good customer service. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was told there isn't one. I'm not surprised. My father used to complain about these same things in the 70's and 80's and it is clear that nothing has changed. read more

Jea is outside my house in Riverside replacing their side of the water service line. I received a warning in the mail about possibly having lead pipes. They knocked on my door and told me they were replacing the pipes so that I would have improved water pressure. It is a joke that they actually think people are so stupid to believe they would dig up all the pipes in the area just to improve everyone's water pressure. I asked the guy replacing the pipes if my pipes were lead. He wouldn't give me a straight answer at first but he finally said only a little of the pipes in the area had small lead segments, but he refused to tell me if there was any lead used in my service line. He changed the conversation and started talking about the improved water pressure again. Even when I pleaded with him that I really would like to know if any lead was found he refused to tell me and began talking about how lead is mostly used up north and that I shouldn't have anything to worry about. From this encounter I have to believe there was in fact lead in some capacity being used to service my home. If there was no lead why not just tell me that? Despite the JEA employee admitting to me that there is some old lead piping being used in the Riverside area, JEA sent out a letter stating that it was highly unlikely for there to be lead on their side of the water service line. The letter also included a site where you can see what material your water service line is made of. When you go to the website it shows that there are absolutely no lead pipes in Jacksonville. For addresses that have service lines of unknown material they show a prediction of what material it is. My address like many others in the area shows "unknown not lead". How can you label an address as "unknown not lead" but then find lead piping in the service line of that address? After the JEA guy said he did see some lead piping in the riverside area, why does no address reflect this reality on the website? This classification is not accurate and it is deceiving. My main problem is that instead of giving me a straight answer about the material used in my service line so I could take the appropriate precautionary steps, the JEA employee refused to tell me whether or not there was lead in the pipe servicing my home. This is a trend with JEA and it is not the first time they've lied to me. They don't care about their customers, they only care about protecting themselves and saving face. If you have an old home, get a plumber to check your service line. Even though the utility company is responsible for maintaining part of the piping of the service line, they didn't bother to replace it until now or even check to see if the piping was a safe material or not. I thought my local water utility would've been proactive in making sure their side of the water line was lead-free, but the only reason they are even changing it now is because of an EPA regulation forcing them to do it. My niece had an elevated lead level 1 year ago and the doctor said it was probably from ingesting dirt from crawling around. After today, I believe it might actually have been from the tap water. It's a shame that JEA wouldn't share any information with me about what the pipe material was. I guess we don't deserve to know where my niece's high lead level might have come from. Just be honest JEA. If the employee hadn't tried to downplay my concern and mention that only small segments of lead piping are being found, then I wouldn't have known there was lead at all. You guys have no integrity. Why are you trying to hide information? Wasn't the purpose of the letter to inform everyone of the potential risk? - Or was it just to comply with the new EPA regulation and cover your own asses? read more

The power for the neighborhoods on Pritmore road, on Old St Augustine Road has been out for over 24 hours and it is so incredibly inconvenient!! I don't know if they realize there's many old folks who live in this area and keep in mind the pets who are going through major heat stress as well. Terrible customer service and a voicemail that sends you in circles and states that their office is closed during hours when it's supposed to be open. Be aware JEA's meter was malfunctioning, JEA eventually made me aware that the culprit was possibly wiring. Consequently I paid to have the wiring reviewed and repaired. I paid $400.00 out of my pocket to make sure JEA meter was properly working. this happened back in early July. In September JEA bills me for $500.00 of estimated electric usage. essentially JEA is saying we messed up and now we believe you owe us this much money and we expect you to pay it in a couple of weeks. I recently purchased a house with a 374 sq ft cottage on a separate lot. The house and guest cottage each have their own utilities. I called JEA to have the power and water turned on to both houses, and there way no problem with the main house. The power for the cottage had a problem where the lights were dim. and it didn't have proper voltage. I called JEA and told them that I wasn't getting the correct voltage to the meter. I could visibly see that the wires coming to the cottage had been spliced and were 2 different sizes. They made me call an electrician who told them the same thing I did and they finally came and changed their wire to my house. The water for the cottage never got turned on so I looked in the meter box and there wasn't one. I had been billed for the cut on and was being charged for water and sewer while there wasn't even a meter there. About a week later, they came and installed the meter, then I get a water and sewer bill for $70 with no usage not including the cut on fee. When I called about it, they told me it was because I had requested a 1 inch meter and they cost more. I told them that the line to my 374 sq ft cottage was 3/4 and why would they use a 1 inch meter. They said it was because I requested it and it will be $500 to change it to a 3/4 which would lower my basic w&s bill by 50%. I never requested it and they can't show me where I did, but they won't budge off of the $500. The linemen and repair guys are great but I would give the crs's and supervisors a zero if I could. We spoke to a supervisor and asked her to show us where we had requested the 1" meter. She said she couldn't find it,"But somebody had requested it". read more

Several individuals have confirmed that on July 19th 2024 there was a significant spike in usage even though nobody was home. Using the new JEA website it states meter readings are not available. Give me a break. I guess you are back to using a payment processor that charges us. There is no reason for this. I wish they would finally put somebody in there That knew what they were doing. Only mom and shops charge a fee for payment and that is because They do not have enough traffic to support their processing fee by themselves. Well JEA you have hundreds of thousands of customers so I think it is ridiculous that you are still behind in the times using a processor that charges you to make a payment to you. Please put somebody in there that knows what they are doing. It is only a couple of dollars but still it is the point and to use cobra as a payment processor is about as redundant as the day as long everybody in the entire world knows that cobra is an over priced conglomerate. I'm sure somebody intelligent could get in there and find a processor that could handle the volume of payments without charging a customer, unlike crooked cobra for crooked JEA the fact that we are still using a processor that charges your customers to pay their bills is lazy on your part. Get somebody in there who can negotiate a processor that does not charge hundreds of thousands of people a fee to pay their bills. And please don't tell me I can use the online system because it has not let me login for over 15 years even if I change my email and link it with my account so that option is not available to me. And when it was working, there was always technical issues on your end that made it extremely hard to get into my account. JEA is running poor systems all the way around. Please get times. read more

The main problem with this particular location is the fact it is located downtown and finding parking generally always poses a problem. They are claiming we have used 46K gallons of water this month. This is simply not possible as my husband works all day and I go to college, I've been trying to get in contact with them but the automated line keeps hanging up, they are also claiming we owe them a "Tax exempt fuel cost" yet nothing in our home use gas or fuel. I called Jea this morning and I told them I would like to transfer service to a new address for NEXT month. Then I was told I have a $200 charge for 2 infractions. 1) that was a returned payment which I paid the very next day due to a credit card issue. 2) for service disruption and I have NEVER had service disruption despite what your records may show. So the lady tells me to transfer service to a new address I will have to pay $213 for a deposit. I asked her what happens if I pay my last bill and stop service in my name INSTEAD of transferring it to a new address. She said then I won't have to pay the $200 and only my bill BUT if I wanted to start service in my name at the new address then I'd have to pay the $200. I told her that's fine that I will just stop service February 28th. She said I would have to call back to stop service. Then I checked the account online and SHE CHANGED MY MAILING ADDRESS. I won't even be at that address until next month and that's only IF I move there. Then she added the $213 deposit to my bill anyway! After I told her I was stopping service next month. This is completely uncalled for. And I will not be paying Jea nearly $600 It's criminal. I live in a 700sq foot home and I don't even have central heat and air! I hang my clothes to dry on a line. How in the world do I owe so much??? Nobody has been out to read an actual meter and then I get my address changed and billed $200 for something thats completely ridiculous. I love the fact that JEA offers the budget plan. They take last year's total and divides it by twelve. Then that is your bill. When the weather freezes over or it is super hot and you will likely use a lot more electric than normal-you won't be caught off guard the next month. For the most part, I do not care for JEA, but if they sell out-the new Owner could jack the rates up super high. As long as you are current with your bills, they are your friend. Back in the day when I was a struggling single Mom, I needed their leniency on paying my bill, to no avail. I always pay ahead now, it usually runs around $80-130 per month. Have a new construction home with all energy efficient everything, we keep our home on 75 as directed by JEA. Our bill was almost 400$ this month! I feel Like we are being robbed and we just moved here. We were told to expect a 150-200$ a month bill. I wasn't prepared for one double that! But hey, what do y'all care?! Recently during a storm we had a power outage in our neighborhood. The JEA was easy to contact and provided the necessary information also called back to let us know that the power was resorted and the reason. We are aware that JEA has their hands full during these times but we do appreciate their assistance and always found them to be helpful in the past. read more

Wanted to post this disappointing experience with JEA. I received my monthly bill and it was ~$170 more than normal for this time of year (Typical is $180-$200 this time of year, Bill was $374). When reviewing the statement, I see an "other activities" charge for $163.97 on top of the normal charges. When I call the agent explains they suspect my meter wasn't working the last two months so they replaced it, then billed at their discretion what they believe my "average" should have been during the time they aren't sure the meter was working correctly. No data to support this. (As it turns out I live alone and was traveling so I expected a lower Bill). JEA credited back the low charge from those months and added an arbitrary higher charge for the last two months to my March bill. I spoke with a CS rep who explained this pretty unapologetically. I asked for a manager call back, spoke to her tonight (she was polite but said policy is policy) and they basically said I'm out of luck. I have no choice but to pay this arbitrary high charge that I do not believe I used, that no one can prove I used, or they will shut off my power. They wonder why their reviews are lower than other options. How is it OK for them to have captive customers and then get to make up numbers for your bill that they can't prove were used. read more

In the midst of hurricane caused power outages, with a hurricane that was expected to be stronger than it actually was, you'd think that a power company would be better prepared. FPL managed get all of the Palm Beach area back up before hurricane Matthew ever reached us, and yet it's been more than 48 hours and all surrounding neighborhoods have power. Worse electric company by FAAAAR. Best part is, you have no choice but to have them, and they know this. They double charged me my monthly payment, and when I called to get them to refund it, they told me I needed to call my bank and get them to fax them papers with letter head sating that the payment had cleared my account. Even though it showed a credit of that amount ON MY JEA ACCOUNT, AND SHOWED THE DOUBLE PROCESSED PAYMENTS! The manager had the nerve to lie to me and say "that doesn't mean it's actually been processed." As if I'm dumb enough to believe that, when their site showed both payments processes, a credit, AND it had been this way for 5 business days. They expect me to take time out of working two jobs to do this or tough shi, you don't get your money back. They're customer service is horrendous and they know it doesn't matter since they monopolizes Jax. Anyone you ask will say they are crooked and horrible. read more

Their service is terrible. We have had four power outages in our four months living in Jacksonville. The most recent was due to Hurricane Irma, but it was tropical storm Irma by the time it reached northern Florida. We are on day four without power. A car wash and granite store down the street had their power restored the first night. Our neighborhood homes and apartments have not had any power for the past four days and counting. They were ill prepared and mismanaged. Family and fiends in the Tampa and Naples area had their power restored within 2 days and they had hurricane Irma at a category 3/4! Pathetic. read more

JEA impacted my flawless credit report due to their poor communication skills and their acceptability to fraud. They let new owners keep paying the water in my name for 3 years until they moved out then 6 months later put it on my credit report. I paid the bill and requested it removed off my credit. They accepted the money but refused to remove the negative listing off my credit. They told BBB of Jacksonville they have great communication with their customers. I disagree as they never contacted me about the late bill besides by mailing to the address a person with a different name for the last three years made. Plus I had another account in my current home. They never attempted to call, email, FB, Twitter, or anything but just keep mailing to an address were they've not heard from me in 3 years... WAKE UP JEA THIS IN 2016 and companies with good communication skills don't communicate by postal mail to their customers address 3 years ago and try nothing else to reach them. It's SHAMEFUL and EXCESSIVE on the number of individuals credit you have impacted negatively because of your outdated, poor communication polices. Instead of ruining an entire communities credit score as it seems like a common practice for you to do in regards of ALL THE COMPLAINTS and NEWS reports about you all dropping the ball. You're a disgrace to you city and someone needs to investigate your practices. read more

The representative even filled the small pauses while waiting for computer responses with information that educated me more on Florida Utilities, Billing, Reducing Costs, and Energy Efficiency. The information was interesting, relevant, and delivered naturally in perfect context. The JEA team is obviously passionate, dedicated, and well informed on their industry, energy efficiency, and cost reduction techniques. Plus, she was a pleasant person! I always say, "You can teach your business to a pleasant person, but you can't teach a business person to be Pleasant!" So, you obviously have a great recruiting and retention process. JEA has provided 5-6 flawless interactions since we relocated two years ago. From the "Weekly WKOV Radio program" to your "World Class Linemen" to your "In Home Energy Audits"... you are doing it RIGHT!!! (And, this feedback is from a consumer who is not actively paying attention!) Modern life has enough minor distractions and complications.
