I was in town for business- and instantly fell in love with the mansion and the town. The mansion was beautiful and the staff was very pleasant. You could feel the history in each room. The breakfast exceeded my expectations every morning, as well as the nightly fresh baked cookies. I would recommended this bed and breakfast to anyone staying in the Allentown/Bethlehem area. Our inn keeper Mary went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. I think I will make the trip back for leisure versus business, very soon! read more

We loved staying at the Sayre Mansion. The staff was excellent, the rooms really comfortable and nice, the breakfast outstanding, and the location great. We happened to be there during a music festival, and there were lots of great places to go within walking distance of the Sayre. Came here on a Saturday. We were never informed there was a wedding that afternoon that took over the house with loud music outside our room window ending 9:30 pm. I'm sure the experience would have been much different otherwise but on this occasion very disappointed. Awesome breakfast though! read more

I went here on my honeymoon a couple months ago. I thought the prices were more than reasonable for the atmosphere. I just don't see all the reason to think this place is the best hotel to stay at locally. Just because there is a lot of neat decor and a wine and cheese reception in the lobby doesn't mean it's the cat's meow. The bed wasn't nearly firm enough (my wife is very petite) and that's the biggest issue. It's okay if you're staying for the decor but if you can't get a good night's sleep, what's the point? The breakfast wasn't anything to write home about either. One day it was served buffet style and honestly was average. I've had better quiche elsewhere and everything was sitting there soggy in chafing dishes. The other morning we had our choice of eggs and other breakfast items. Honestly the eggs tasted like they were from one of those liquid containers and the french toast was merely average with some okay toppings. Although it's not their fault, the Sayre Mansion is located at one of the WORST traffic hotspots in the area. It's been like this for a long time and has only been getting worse. If you're just staying here for business, I'd just go over to the Holiday Inn Suites in Hellertown or the Comfort Suites in Southside. I guess it was "romantic" at the Sayre Mansion but I think their reputation isn't as deserved as some believe. read more

We stayed here for a couple nights while attending Musikfest. This place is about a half mile walk to where it takes place and that was just perfect for us. Downtown Bethlehem can be a little confusing to drive through with all the one-ways and overpasses and such but getting in and out of here couldn't be any easier. Plus there are no problems with parking! Our room was big enough for 3 (it had a queen bed plus a twin in a separate alcove. Breakfast was great each morning with a type of quiche, a type of scrambled eggs, a "bread" product (one morning blueberry pancakes, one french toast), sausage and bacon. Plus a nice variety of cereals, diced fruit, muffins/danish (they had dark chocolate danish one morning that marked the death knell of my reduced sugar breakfast!), coffee and a nice assortment of teas. They also had fresh baked cookies every night sitting in the cookie jar. :) The bed was comfortable (I think it had a feather bed mattress topper). The soaps and such were nice enough for me to notice (I never notice!) Free WiFi worked great. The staff were all great although other than breakfast I had no need to interact with them. If you are a light sleeper you might be bothered by the occasional train horn (but that is the case pretty much anywhere in Bethlehem). There's no elevator, so keep that in mind if you have problems with stairs. read more

Third visit.... this time the Hayloft in the Carriage House. Things have changed. There are flat panels hooked to the wall in most rooms (got to see #15 and #14 for our next visit) and the A/C units are updated, you can control the temperature and instead of individual water bottles they moved to water coolers so that there is less impact on the environment. Same excellent service. The view has changed because construction has taken down some obstructions and you can see the old steel furnaces (they light them at night). Lots of places to sit around the property and excellent cookies to munch on with coffee or tea. The carriage house is located up 3rd and the hayloft is the top floor of it. The floor is the old wide planking, the bathroom is modern with a large (two people can easily fit) shower. The bed is loaded with pillows and in the next room is a day bed with blankets and pillows in the closet of that. Coffee and tea is available in the room as is a small fridge. The windows along the road have another pane of glass (plastic?) so that the sound is really muffled from the road. The A/C gave nice white noise over it too. The room had an over large chair/small love seat; a desk; and a night stand. But what are you doing in your room all that much. It is a walk to go into downtown Bethlehem but in nice weather it is a really nice walk. South Bethlehem is coming up so going into South Bethlehem is nice also (as long as it isn't late at night -- I would suggest driving then). Lola is an addition -- a little white puff ball of fur who enjoys tummy rubs and is a love and also knows when you touch the cookie jar and comes to check out if you are an easy touch. Breakfast is great. Lots to eat and much of it is healthy. read more

In April, four of us reserved four rooms for a Saturday night stay in mid-July. Once we checked in, three in the party received plush, charming rooms worthy of newlyweds, but the fourth room -- room 15, which went for the same high price as the others -- was beyond dreary: four square walls facing a catering tent, which meant the window blinds had to be kept shut at all times. The only adornment was three throw pillows on the bed. All the rooms went the for same price, and the hotel was fully booked for the weekend, which meant no switching spaces. To add injury to insult, the ground-floor room was situated directly next to the kitchen; starting at 6am Sunday, pots banged, doors slammed, and kitchen talk was at full pitch. Upon checkout, I voiced my displeasure, and was told I was not the first one to mention the substandard level of the room. (The staff member went so far as to say the space would be better used as an office.) I requested a call from management, which I received the next day. What I got didn't so much as qualify as a vague apology. I am still burning from the price tag of this miserable experience. read more

I would stay here again, but only at the promotional rate. I am a very light and late sleeper and the traffic was just too much for me. We stayed in the Observatory, which was an amazing room full of plants with a glass ceiling. The bed was comfy, soft but not too soft, it rivals my own which I personally think is the best in the world. Breakfast was amazing, and the inn keepers were attentive to our needs. However, the fireplace did stop working part way through our visit, and there were some unexpected occupants that I suspect came with the plants (bugs). read more

I always forget to do the check-in option when I stay at places using yelp. Anyway my wife and I stayed here for a night. We stayed on Sunday March 23rd, and upon checking in was greeted by a lovely lady who's name I believe wa as Jane. She was a lovely person and answered all our questions and showed us to our room. Nice quant little room. I'm not to picky about cleanliness of rooms, so long as things look cleaned up, I'm not worried about a little dust between cracks of light fixtures n such. So onto what happened next. Our air conditioner was busted. So after coming back from the casino our room was pretty warm. This is when we were introduced to another awesome employee by the name of "AC" convenient considering what was broke on our room. But they remedied this by offering us one of their suites at no additional cost. All and all it was a very pleasant experience. Only reason its getting 4 stars, is because they are a little behind the times with ammendities like types of televisions, speed of internet etc. The televisions are tiny 20inch tv's. So that might bother some. And the internet is very slow. I do my work online so good internet is a must. As far as the food goes, seeing how it is a bed and breakfast is also very good. Bacon, eggs and waffles. How can you go wrong. read more

Would do 4.5 if I could. Stayed 3 nights at the Sayre Mansion a few days after Christmas. All in all an excellent stay. We started in room 21 and then moved to Carriage House 3 due to availability. Room 21 was a very large room with comfortable seating, incredible bed, and nice decor. Carriage House 3 is a spacious suite with equally comfortable seating, a nice touch with a Christmas tree, and a very spacious bathroom. The whirlpool tub and separate shower a very nice touch.Wu The bed is also really nice. Sayre Mansion has definitely figured out the comfy bed/pillow challenge. The staff was very friendly and we adored Bradford the French Bulldog who adds a whimsical touch. The decor in the breakfast room and common rooms is also very tasty and nice. Some have said t is noisy as it is in a high traffic and it can be. However, in fairness, they do describe themselves as an Urban B&B. My wife and I walked through shopping areas on both sides of the river and the walk was very manageable. Bethlehem has an emerging Foodie scene and there is no shortage of cool places to try. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is that for me the combination radiator heat and HVAC unit in the Carriage House was a bit challenging for me to get right but not a huge deal. This place was amazing! Some girlfriends and I took advantage of their girls night out package and had a fabulous weekend! The hotel is so nice and cozy and the rooms are luscious! Pick room #20 or #21 with beautiful views and amazing beds! The breakfast was to die for and we were licking our place! The package got us an amazing dinner at Melt in town and massages at Healing Hands and movie tickets. It really was the ultimate weekend. I plan to recommend this to everyone I know and come back again! read more

We just returned home after two nights at Sayre Mansion. I have not been a fan of bed and breakfasts, however, this stay may have changed that. Bradford, the dog, was there to greet us and he was just as pleasant as the rest of the staff. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and classy. The food was great. The mansion was in walking distance of a great little town - both sides of the river. It was a little noisy, but the rest of the stay made up for it. If staying in Bethlehem, I recommend you try this place out. read more

My friend and I stayed here getting their "Girls Night Package". I didn't expect this to be RIGHT on the highway, but that didn't detract from the beauty of the place. The innkeeper was great, very friendly and attentive. The room we stayed it was fantastic, the beds were very comfortable and it had a fantastic shower. We really enjoyed sitting in the sitting room, near the fireplace, drinking the complementary coffee and just relaxing. I enjoyed, but wasn't blown away, by breakfast. I'd love to go back... but don't think I can afford it anytime soon... this was just a little treat. read more

This was the best bed and breakfast. My husband and I arrived late, 12am, well past the check-in and we were greeted just as warmly as we would've been had it been 3pm. The mansion is beautiful and historic, with interesting artwork and lovely furnishings. The cast-iron ceiling moulding in the parlor is not to be missed. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and well-appointed. The breakfast is delicious and they are willing to accommodate gluten-free people. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, polite and very kind and attentive. I hope to pass through Bethlehem, Pennsylvania again, if only to be treated like a king for less than you'd pay for a Marriott. read more

We stayed in room #28 and were extremely pleased. The innkeeper who met us upon arrival was very friendly and walked us to our room and explained things such as how to control room temperature. Everything was very clean. The bed linens are very good quality and comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was delicious! We enjoyed the coffee, pastries, and fruit that was set out while we waited for our main course was being prepared. The omelet was perfect! We are hoping to find another opportunity to stay here in the future. read more

This for us was a splurge, but for as often as we do an overnight stay somewhere I figured the higher price-tag was acceptable. I guess it was a slow night for them as we were given a complimentary upgrade to a nicer room with a king size bed instead of a queen. There was a down topper on the bed, down blanket, lots of wonderful pillows, nice linens. I actually liked the sound of the train that ran nearby - we only heard an ambulance go by once - there is a large hospital nearby. Fiance is a light sleeper and had a restful night. I liked all the eco-friendly products that were used and the water coolers in the halls instead of bottled waters - plus not paying $3 a bottle for hotel water was special! Water pressure in the shower was amazing. Innkeeper was knowledgeable and accessible. Breakfast featured Starbucks coffee, fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, and your choice of two cooked items. If I could take off a quarter star it would be for the omelet which seemed to feature those liquid eggs similar to those used at Denny's. Lovely place. Would return. read more

I stayed 2 nights in a room on the 3rd floor. The room was nicely furnished and very comfortable. The staff could not have been nicer and the breakfast was better than you get in most high end hotels. This is a restored 150+ year old mansion with all the creaks and character that you'd expect. Beautiful accommodations, attentive staff and the most wonderful breakfasts! We had four rooms for eight people and all the rooms were just gorgeous and very comfortable. Every time any of us came downstairs, one of the staff would pop out of the office or kitchen to see if we needed anything and were so very nice. There was a sweet little poodle that acted as a greeter, but never barked or begged. The tasty breakfasts featured several hot options made to order as well as fabulous fresh baked goods, fruit, yogurt and cereals. The sitting room and bedrooms were beautifully appointed with antiques and had lovely architectural details as well all the modern comforts. I wish we could have stayed longer than two nights! read more

My fiance and I stayed here for one night after purchasing a package from Living Social. Our package included a standard room, a wine tour at the Franklin Winery, and a bottle of wine with a cheese and cracker platter in our room. Pros: The room was bigger than it looked in the pictures which was a pleasant surprise. The bed was also very comfortable, and the room itself was very clean. Breakfast was absolutely delicious. There was a variety of juice, coffee, teas, fruit, and pastries in addition to a menu selection which included oatmeal pancakes (delicious), broccoli cheese quiche (also delicious), eggs cooked to your liking, and oatmeal. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Cons: The only real downside was the creaking of the floors (which can't really be helped in such an old house) and how easy it was to hear just about everything that went on in the hallway and surrounding rooms. A train also went by a number of times which was mildly annoying when trying to sleep. Overall, we would definitely stay here again if we we came across another deal through websites like Living Social and Groupon because it is a little pricey. read more

My husband and I had our May wedding at the Sayre Mansion, and we have been so delighted with the experience. Carrie, the innkeeper, was so helpful and friendly at all stages of the planning process, including the wedding weekend. She had great suggestions for other vendors, and she helped set a calm atmosphere for all of our friends and family, many of whom stayed at the Mansion for the weekend. Our guests loved the venue (we had the wedding ceremony outdoors on the lawn and had the reception under the tent), and remarked how unique the individual rooms are. My husband and I stayed in the conservatory, which is one of the most beautiful rooms I've ever seen, and made a stunning backdrop for some wedding day photographs. The breakfast was delicious and all the staff were friendly. I would highly recommend the Sayre Mansion for others considering a wedding venue in the area, or for those seeking a weekend away. read more

A family wedding at the Steel Stacks brought us to the Sayre, but after three nights in Unit 3 in the Carriage House, we could not wait to leave. The bed had seen better days-a lumpy, bumpy mess, gyrating to the concussion of heavy traffic just a few feet away. At times, heavy trucks seem to be driving into the room as they zoom along the state hwy right beneath. The bathroom has towels strewn about-no towel racks-while the commode is the height for a five year old. The room was cold-but the fake fireplace did help. I took refuge on the couch. Two nights passed before the room was serviced. The weekend breakfast buffet was a soggy mess, but worse yet, on Monday, the buffet was gone, replaced by an order only rationed amount of the worst of the buffet. If you have a fondness for stale white wonder bread, this is your place. Add a bad egg and cheap sausage, but you'll need to get your own coffee and fruit. The server seemed appalled at the notion of "whole wheat". If there was a wine and cheese evening event, no one mentioned it. In fact, the staff seemed cold and distant. Creepy, really. Be prepared to lug your bags up the long drive and steep outside staircase-service is non-existant. At $300/night, this will be the most expensive gulag you will ever stay in. read more
