It's a cheap motel, like the ones your frugal parents took you to in the '70s. No soundproofing; you can hear everything that happens anywhere in the building or the parking lot. Tiny, outdated bathroom. And if costs $200 instead of $25 like it did in the'70s, which is probably when it was built. read more

Many customers were given extra charges on leaving, and when they pushed back for clarity, this man refused to explain, said they must pay, only wanted payment in cash, and did not seem to record payments or provide accurate receipts. Do not recommend. Do not feel it is a good operation. Did like the friendly lady. She made mornings easier at this place. It was like day & night between those two. Who runs this place???" read more

Umm...look, the staff there is very friendly and very sweet. The location is pretty sketchy. The floors had a lot of suspicious stains. They didn't even have a TV stand...the place needs some TLC. If you need a place to rest your head for a night en route to your destination, it's not horrible. But, I'm almost certain there have been pagan sacrifices in some of these rooms. Like squirrels and raccoons being offered to the celestial Gods of Jim Thorpe. read more

This is a great little place to stay if you're in the area and I have to give it a full recommendation. If you want all the amenities of one of the bigger chains, forget it. However, if you want a place with a lot of heart that takes you back to the days of mom-and-pop establishments for the weary traveler, this is your ticket. We booked a room with one large bed and had no complaints. The structure is plaster, which you don't see very much these days. Exterior has a nice landscape with plenty of attention provided. Bathrooms had a shower curtain on a pole but what the heck more do you need? One thing you need to be aware about is that there is no bathroom in the lobby, so get your business done before you arrive. Breakfast is provided, but its the standard continental variety, so don't expect bacon and eggs. However, there are two nice restaurants a stone's toss away. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. It's a mom & pop motel, likely built in the early 70s and seeing how long they can go without splurging on a coat of paint. Get a room on the back of the building or you'll be dealing with road traffic noise all night. The room was dark and dank, beds were old and quite worn, but the sheets were clean. There's a reason their rooms are ¼ the price of chain motels, and you get what you pay for. The hot water is EXTREMELY hot, unless someone else in the 40+ rooms turns on their tap, then it goes ice cold. We had a large gap under the door that any number of vermin could easily enter. Cable TV and HBO were nice, and the internet speed was great. The staff were wonderful. VERY pleasant kids who try hard, but don't have much to work with. Try to ignore the mold-covered dilapidated travel trailer in the back, and try to pretend that it's NOT being rented out as two hotel rooms. In short, it's a place to lay your head and not much else, but you get what you pay for. If you want a cheap place to rest, it will more than suit your needs. If you are looking for amenities, keep going to the nearest chain hotel. As a side note, the two diners near the hotel got sorta-ok yelp reviews. That would be accurate. Same vintage as the hotel, old and broken down, with a good staff that tries hard. But that's for another review. read more

This place is a basic hotel with your basic needs, all fine if thats what you expect. Thats what I expected. My issue with this place is not anything about the physical building more about the person who answered the phone. A few weeks ago we found this place online though one of the online sites. Booked it. Stay there for one night. We arrived and the desk person was friendly, in our conversation he mentioned that rates were a few $ lower if booked direct with them. Understood as they pay a % to the search engine site. I remembered this, so yesterday I went to book another say in the area. I googled hotels and they came up again on the I saw there price and remembered what the guy said about direct booking costing less. So i call and speak with an Indian (I put this in here because I didn't get a name and it might help the business know whom I speak of) guy, I tell him what I need, when the stay is and he quotes me a price which is actually higher then what I'm seeing online. I ask about the difference, he says it seems like what I'm looking at won't meet my needs. I then assure him we don't need anything more then a room with a bed and I mention what the previous employee said. His tone then takes a sharp turn and he seems to get angry and starts talking to me in that almost loud stern voice. (I don't remember exactly what he said but it was basically "you need to stop taking and listen to me" repeated a few times.) At this point I simply tell him I don't need to listen to him, I'm a customer and can book my stay anywhere else and hang up. The two stars are simply of this guys reaction to me asking why his quoted price was higher then online. So guess what we're not stay here again. read more

This place is right off the turnpike and not a chain. It's not fancy but it's a good value for the money and a comfortable place to stay if you're looking for a reasonable place in Jim Thorpe. The bathroom was small and the hot/cold knobs in the bathroom were reversed but once I figured that out it was clean and reasonable. We couldn't wait to get out of the city and this was a good last minute place to stay with reasonable rates, friendly staff and basic cable. It met my expectations. read more

After reading the one and only review by Lauren L., I feel compelled to both write my own and respond to some of her points. I've been going to Mahoning Inn with my daughter for 3 years. We go most weekends in the winter for skiing. The Inn is a great value. The room rate is very reasonable and is always quoted when you make a reservation so I'm not sure why Lauren was surprised at the rate when she checked in. Included with the very reasonable nightly rate is a continental breakfast. You really can't beat that. As for heat, yes they turn the heat on when they know you're coming. You see Lauren, heating an empty room costs money and is wasteful. By heating them only when occupied, they save money and electricity. The monetary savings is passed on to customers in the form of lower rates and the energy savings is, well, a responsible practice. In the event they didn't know you were coming, it takes only about 30 minutes to bring a room up to temperature. Lauren expected shampoo, conditioner and lotion. Really? This is a discount Inn and not providing things like that keeps the cost down which is what the people who stay there are looking for. Bring your own. Also, the soap provided works just fine-even broken it still cleans you. How about that? Cold bathrooms? Well, open the bathroom door and let the room heat in. Or turn on the overhead heat lamp some rooms have. Running out of hot water? Now this I really doubt. It's an Inn with many rooms and is equipped to handle the demand. I've never run out of hot water. Perhaps she got the room where the shower control is plumbed backwards and didn't figure out that hot is cold and cold is hot. While I cannot speak to Lauren's particular experience, I can say that I've stayed in most every room that faces the mountain-each equipped with two queen beds, a refrigerator, microwave, flat screen TV, iron and board, table and chairs-you know, what you'd expect. I've never had a smelly room, or found stains on the bedding or floor as she experienced. That would definitely be a turn off if true. As for mobile phone coverage; is Lauren actually holding the Inn responsible for that? Personally, I've never had a problem, I even face time from the room, but still, the Inn does not control stuff like that. Also, the WIFI has always worked fine for me. Did she call the desk when she could not connect? When nether the phone nor the WIFI worked, maybe we can say the device itself is suspect. In conclusion, Mahoning Inn is not for everyone. If you need the amenities of a chain hotel, then go there and pay the higher rate. If have a problem with a pink or yellow bathroom, go somewhere else. If however, you don't mind a dated decor and just want a clean bed to lay your head and a nice breakfast to start the day-all for $75 or less, this might be the place for you. I give four stars to the Mahoning Inn. My one suggestion is to update the bathroom lights and mirrors. This could be done for little money (get a builder pack) and really make a difference visually. Since Bill has been constantly reinvesting in the Inn, making upgrades as he can afford, I'm sure this is on his list. read more

Everyone bad mouths this place. Place was clean and functional. Don't go expecting high end cause this place is simply not that thing. Good things outstanding customer service. Clean rooms. Bad things room cannot regulate temperature. You also hear every car in the parking lot. Bed was super small and my feet hang off of it. I would consider coming back. My son & I were stranded on Route 309 in the 11/15/18 unexpected horrible snowstorm. It took us 12 1/2 hours to travel 90 miles. Needless to say, we were exhausted & worried about how we were going to finish our trip to Ohio. We called 10 hotels & most had no room or worse, they were hiking their prices & taking advantage of the snowstorm. Mr. Singh welcomed us to his Inn and kept the price as it normally is which is so refreshingly ethical and kind. His Inn may not be new but it is clean, comfortable and family-friendly, family-owned & operated, welcoming. It was affordable and we highly recommend this Inn. Booked this place on the spur of the moment as our original place didn't work out and this place was actually closer to our destination. It is your typical side of the road motel - very old fashioned - nothing updated - definitely over-priced when we booked it - but still had its charm. The office is pretty much a big room and off to the side in the morning they have complimentary continental breakfast which was just cereal, coffee, etc. The pluses: We had a room in the back of the place so we didn't hear the noise from the main road. Inside were two queen beds, a mini fridge and a microwave and a bathroom with a larger tiled shower, the bed was clean and comfortable, plenty of hot water, good working air conditioner and there was a restaurant right next door which was convenient and we went to it for breakfast the next morning. The minuses: The door was not super secure - had an old style put the key in the lock and turn and a chain as security which concerned me a bit; the room (probably the carpet and the drapes) definitely had a dated smell to it, you had to keep the door to the bathroom closed otherwise it almost hit the bed, the bathroom could have been a little cleaner (some hair around), the soap bars were very small and very cheap towels of which there were only two bath towels. I think if this place put the money in and made the necessary upgrades it would do very well as its in a good location, near alot of local businesses. Otherwise I would stay here again and try to book on-line to maybe get a better deal in price. read more

Spent two nights here for a quick last minute ski getaway weekend. No frills nothing fancy motel style room. Dated but clean and comfortable. Super convenient location and notably every staff members I dealt with was super nice. For the price a great place in a central location. read more

We stayed for 2 nights and had a wonderful experience. The price was extremely reasonable considering you get a nice continental breakfast that includes more than just coffee and donuts. I compared other motels in the area and this one is the best value. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable and the all the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The location of the inn puts it within minutes of many local attractions. We will definitely be going back. read more
