I have been bringing my dogs here for years and have always had such a great experience. I used to take my shihtzu chihuahua mix, Coco Bear, here for her haircuts and she always came home looking perfect. One thing I really appreciate is how efficient they are here. Before I found them, I tried other groomers in town with Coco Bear and she would be there all day, where as SB Paws and Claws usually have everything done in under two hours. I recently brought in our new rescue, Pepper who we were told is a poodle, yorkie and maltese mix. It was her first haircut and they were so wonderful, updating me throughout the appointment to let me know how Pepper was doing as I was a little nervous her being away from me for the first time. Everyone there was so nice and helpful from my first phone inquiry through my little girls appointment. When I got there all the dogs there were calm and that's always a good sign. The whole place was spotless and felt happy. This was Penelope's first grooming experience and I couldn't have asked for a better one. She's never liked baths, and I didn't know how she would react to having her hair cut especially since it had to go down pretty short.. But when I got there to pick her up, she was calm and just her normal excitement to see me. Not afraid to be there at all. Brought my best friends new rescue dog here I had already shaved him with a 7f (not that well) a couple weeks prior to his appointment to get the matting off. It was uneven and didn't looks so good. I brought him here to get him evened out and get him on a good schedule. I was nervous about the blow dryer and how he would do for strangers. They took amazing care of him and sent me an update after his blow dry telling me he did great. When I came to pick him up I was so happy to see how good he looked. Our first few grooming appointments with Talia were excellent -- our dog was well cared for and seemed happy to be there. Unfortunately, that changed. On our most recent visit, two things stood out. 1st, when I picked up my dog, she was pulling hard toward the door -- clearly anxious to leave (which is out of character). 2nd, the bill included charges for services I did not requested or approved. When I asked about the extra charge (30% of the bill), the young man at the front desk couldn't explain it and called the co-owner (not Talia) to the front desk. She appeared annoyed at having to talk w/a customer, and was outright rude. Her explanation, as I understood, was that she assumed we'd want the additional services (with no prior conversation, or consent). But it was the unnecessary and unexpected rudeness that really got to me. It's genuinely disappointing to see such behavior. We won't be returning. I've been taking my corgi pup, Little Bear, to SB Paws & Claws for a while now, but I've just now gotten more attentive with Yelp reviews and took him in today, so I need to write one for this business! I take Little Bear in for a bath + de-shed about every 5-6 weeks and love going here! The gals who own/run the business are wonderful. I usually work with Emily specifically and she's always so kind and attentive. One time I decided to add on a teeth-brushing service to the appointment, but told Emily that I have a hard time brushing his teeth at home so no worries if she couldn't get his done. I came back to get him after the appointment and she told me she was able to brush his teeth! And she showed me how to do it with one of the brushes they have at their front desk! I was so appreciative. Another time I brought Little Bear in, he had a really weird sticky patch under his leg. I couldn't get the stuff out no matter what I did! I brought him in and Emily let me know that they tried everything but unfortunately had to shave that area. They mirrored the shave to the other side and evened it out so it wouldn't look too odd - and they did it for free! I was so grateful. Overall (or TLDR), this business and its owners/employees are wonderful! They are attentive, hard-working, and truly care about the dogs. And it's been so exciting to watch them grow and expand! I highly recommend this place. The girls do such a fantastic job with my shitzu-bichon. We had our dog groomed for the third time today and even had pictures to boot and they nailed it. My baby looks so fresh and clean. They avoid her very long eyelashes which we have had a problem with at other groomers. This can't be an easy job at all, so we like to tip appropriately. Last edit: after really feeling my pup all over I realized how choppy the cut still is and just completely buzzed in a way. He is an aussie with a double coat and I really hope it grows back the same way. If double coats are cut too short it can affect the way they grow back and the dogs ability to regulate their body heat, which is why I asked for very little off when I took him in. From animatch.ca "when you shave a double coated dog, you may irreparably impair their ability to properly heat/cool themselves and protect their skin. The best way to keep this kind of dog cool and comfortable is to regularly bathe and brush them." For what it's worth, I've heard from several people that A1 laundromat is good with aussies. I don't think I'll ever take my guy in for a groom again but in case you're looking for a place! read more

I think BGG has been very good to my energetic pup. We took him in this morning, and it took less than 2 hours for him to come back matte-free and smelling like roses! My dog is a terrier so he gets matted a LOT. He looks like an appropriate airedale terrier, and wasn't shaved (which is a great thing, since I didn't want him shaved). His undercoat was taken care of and he came out happy. I paid approximately $70 for his grooming. It comes with a full package so I'm willing to pay it. I loved this business when my puppy first started going there about 1.5 years ago. Apparently the business was newly purchased at this time. My little dog got cute haircuts from nice people in a timely manor(2hrs) at $62.50 and I could easily make future appointments. THINGS HAVE DRAMATICALLY CHANGED. The cost for my 12 lb dog has been raised to $90 plus $1 per minute to brush out the tangles. It now takes 5 hours+ to groom her. My very happy go lucky dog now shakes in fear and doesn't want to go into this business. The last two haircuts my dog got were so awful I thought they must have gotten someone new. They shaved her down so short (without asking/telling) cut her fluffy tail into a stick, gave her razor burn on her tummy, lopped off her fluffy round head, chopped her ears into a weird square, she looked and felt awful. I barely recognized her. My adorable little dog looked ugly for the first time in her life. I didn't say anything because they kept telling me they "had" to shave her because she was matted, some tangles but not matted or a need to shave. They made me feel bad, I was shamed. This happened two times in a row so I had to let her grow out for months in between before I returned. Because I had to wait for her hair to grow out it was very difficult to get another appointment (I normally book ahead several at a time about every 6 weeks). When we finally got in she was very fluffy and had some tangles. I was shamed by the owner who said she'd prefer to shave her instead of brushing tangles out. I brush her regularly and her tangles are not that bad but there were some. She also gets a bath and a good brushing every 10 days at her daycare. I don't want her shaved but to have a reasonable fluffy coat. When I text to ask if she is ready I'd always get a rude, snarky response acting as if she is so much work they actually brushed her the whole 5 hours and never washed or cut her. That's the whole reason she is there. They said they didn't have time to wash and cut because I had to pick her up at a certain time (isn't 5 hrs enough time?). Today was the worst. Dropped the dog off for a groom and I thought a couple hours. I was told after they had her 2.5 hours that they were still brushing her and it would be a couple more hours. I said ok because I felt I had no other choice. She needed to be groomed. I texted a couple hours later to see if they were close (it was sooner than the new time she gave me but you never know if it ended up going quicker). The text back was again very rude. "I told you it would be at 3 and it could even take longer! I don't understand why you insist on us brushing her out when we could just shave her" she said. Why couldn't she just say no, she's not ready yet? Instead I got attacked for simply asking is she was ready. I was just checking in because she had been there for hours and I wanted to go home. I figured my poor dog wanted to go home too. I said fine I'll take my child home from school and head back into town again to get the dog later that eve. She said no, after 4 hours she was done brushing her and refused to bathe and cut her. She also said I should not come back. Again, I'm always nice, tip big and simply drop my dog off and pick her up. They do not know me as a person at all. She went for a groom and was only brushed for the second time! She shamed and reprimanded me and said I had no idea how long it takes and how much work, bla, bla... This woman/girl is very mean, bitter and rude. I take very good care of my dog and she made me cry from her awful texts (unnecessarily rude) and I was shaking from the whole horrible encounter. I have always been kind and respectful to them and now I feel as if they are too big for their britches. Their business is now much busier because there is a groomer shortage in SB, prices much higher, cuts are terrible, takes hours longer and now I'm getting bullied. WTF??? I have owned several small businesses and would never, ever have spoken or treated my clients with such disrespect. Please beware of this once lovely but now terrible business. They do not deserve your business, it's not hard to be kind. read more

Unfortunately will not be going back. First called in and got quoted at one price ($50) for a haircut for a small dog, wasn't even provided other options. Brought her in, no clarification on what was needed just took the dog. Ended up being charged $60 because that's the cost of a full service (they don't even have a $50 service as it turns out), wouldn't issue a correction. Ok that could just be miscommunication, but the job is the main reason for this rating. Just very choppy and her tail length chopped in half, but there are several missed spots so now I have to cut it as much as I can to match the rest of the hair. It makes me sad because I know people have good experiences (and this was somewhere that was recommended to me by a friend) but it was just such a frustrating experience my time around. read more

The original owner Jason (Barking Good Grooms) was really an incredible person and groomer; since the business has been taken over and changed to SB Paws and Claws I feel the customer service has gone downhill. The past few times that I've been in, my dog has been reluctant to stay. Which is completely out of character for her. She loves every human being she comes across, so this is made me somewhat leary. Then there's the issue of their fees constantly changing, yet the time that they're spending with my dog hasn't. When I asked the owner about these fee changes I was given what felt like a myriad of excuses as to why they charge the way they do, most of which were comical and then I was told I could basically look elsewhere. I'm a business owner and I understand the cost of doing business, but I also understand the need and desire to hang onto clients, especially in a service industry. In this case, the owner doesn't seem to understand this concept. How unfortunate. read more

Decided to try this groomer last month for my Pomeranian. I was able to use my Axxess card for an upgrade to teeth brushing and nail grooming. They came out and met me to drop off & pick up in masks which was appreciated. Due to the pandemic I just had to trust in the inside conditions and safety of my fur baby ; ). The groomer was very pleasant. I asked for a very specific cut and got exactly what I wished for. The only thing I was disappointed in was the tooth brushing. To be fair he is an older dog with the stank breath... but other groomers always do a better job and I usually have a few days of reprieve from his breath! I will take him again and hope they brush better next time! read more
