My room was on the opposite side of the block so I had to cross through the courtyard to get to my room. This is also where the breakfast dining area is located. The breakfast is an add-on to the room rate and it is worth it in my opinion. You get a huge array of foods. cereals, so many breads, delicious coffee from machines, fresh juices, yogurts and fruits, meats and cheeses, and yes, good old American eggs and bacon/sausages. Great opportunity to fill up for the day! The location is wonderful. Very close to central station/metro. The only downside is that it's across from and (on the opposite side) above a strip club, so there will be times later at night where music might suddenly be blaring. There was also one night where I heard significant yelling from the hallway. Not sure what was going on, if it was a cop, or just a belligerent jerk. TL;DR, it's an improvement from a hostel, but not necessarily for older or quiet couples. Might be luck of the draw. Pricey a bit maybe, but for Cph and considering the location, it's really not bad for solo travelers that don't want to hostel it up.

It's walking distance to literally all the museums, cathedrals, stores, cafes, bookstores and it's surrounded by restaurants. Not to mentioned tons of street vendors are all over in the street. And most importantly the central train station is like 3 minutes walking distance from the hotel. Stay away from the cabs...too expensive. The rooms are very tiny, but very clean and smells so good. The bed was very comfortable and my favorite has to be the shower. The shower head was luxurious. They had a nice lounge downstairs that you can grab a drink from the bar, which was behind the reception desk. The staff was very helpful with giving recommendations on where to eat, how to navigate the city of Copenhagen and help with any other questions you may have. I had a pleasant stay here! Check in went smoothly and front desk staff were quite nice and helpful throughout our stay. The Standard Double room was good size and very comfortable. It had a small closet (could've used more hangars), a safe, desk and comfy lounge chair. No problems with the AC and we could leave the windows open as our room was located away from the street. The TV was located parallel to the bed so we always had to turn our heads to watch. The bathroom had nice counter space and roomy. We were not a fan of the shower which was the European style with the half glass that allowed too much water to get all over the floor. Breakfast got fairly busy and luckily there were two buffet areas to split up the guests. Breakfast every morning was the same food and after awhile it was a bit disappointing that there was no variety at all during our stay. However, the food was filling. The vegetarian section had an interesting selection that included sandwich meat equivalent, mushroom paste from a tube, hummus, etc. There also was a good selection of non-dairy milks. Laundry area was located in the basement and we had to inform the front desk in advance since these were the same washer and dryer used by the hotel cleaning staff. Each load cost roughly 50DKK so it was not cheap. Detergent was automatically injected into the washer so no need to bring or buy your own. If one opted to skip housekeeping then you got a 100DKK voucher each day to use on drinks or snacks at the bar. One caveat there was always a different person each morning making the drinks at the bar and the espressos tasted slightly different each time. Also one day it came in a glass and another day it was in a smaller mug. Luggage storage was available and it was up to the guest to bring and retrieve their luggage from the storeroom. Access to the room was via your keycard but of course it didn't work when we came back in the afternoon to retrieve them. The would be a likely return stay if we come back to Copenhagen.

When we checked-in, the front desk staff were friendly and provided us with lots of local tips for our time in the city. They also let us know that for everyday we opt out of room service, we would receive either a voucher for the bar, a discounted hotel bike rental, or a complimentary beauty product. We opted to skip out on room service most days and received a 100 DKK voucher to spend on drinks at the bar, which were very reasonably priced. Our room was cozy, comfortable, and the bathroom was very nice. Though we booked a smaller room we still felt like we had plenty of space for two people, and the room had an AC unit which came in handy on the more humid days. The hotel breakfast was one of the highlights of our stay. I feel like complimentary hotel breakfasts are becoming more and more scarce, so to have a full spread of breads, meats, cheeses, yogurt, fruits, coffee, and tea was super convenient. One of the best features of the Absalon is probably their location, it's walking distance from so many restaurants and attractions (including Tivoli Gardens) and a short 3 minute walk from central station, so getting around was a breeze. Inside the room, every detail was well planned and designed for practical functional use. When we checked in, they said our room was ready, when we got there, there was a dirty coffee cup lol They do come and change your towels and tidy up daily if you want, but sometimes take your bathroom floor mat without replacing it. So come stop by, just to take a picture of the lights in the stairwell or I guess if you want to use the sauna (but let them know 30 mins to a hour in advance).

Nice shuffleboard room to relax in, along with a large recessed side room with fireplace. Great rooftop area with nice views. Nicely and tastefully decorated throughout. Service was excellent! There's a step going into the bathroom which is a toe/ankle ender, and at night in the pitch black is crazy dangerous too. The outlets are mostly not working, and poorly placed all over the room in the most useless places. Bed is crazy firm, pillows as well. Elevator fits 4 ppl MAX at a time and is always full. Excellent location, amazing staff. Unfortunately everything else is brutal.

If you are a person like me who enjoys walking, you can walk to many/most of the places that you may want to go to around Copenhagen. Also, this hotel is very close to the rail station. So, if you hope to use this hotel as a base of transportation around Copenhagen, or beyond, you can easily get moving. In addition, though this hotel was constructed in 1960, (and the staff is very proud of this fact), it is a very up-to-date hotel. The rooms are well designed and very modern. Plus, the staff keeps this location very clean. A tip I would like to provide is that I believe if you are going to stay at this hotel you should really go for one of the rooms on the higher floors, known as their Superior Rooms. Though a bit more expensive, with this, you get a great view all across Copenhagen. Though this is a good hotel, I believe a few of the negative elements that take place at this location also must be discussed. Which I will do in a moment. To tell my most recent story at this hotel. My plane arrived at 10:00 AM. I got to the hotel a bit before 11:00. As check-in is at 3:00 PM, I expected that I would just do the initial check-in process, give them our luggage to hold, and go out on the town for a few hours. I was surprised to hear that the room was ready and that I could have, "Early Check-in." Amazingly, either due to the fact that we had prepaid the room on the Radisson website or that I am a Radisson Premier Member, they did not charge us the early check-in fee. Thanks! That was a great gift as we got to get our luggage situated in our room before we hit the streets. Sadly, that is where the positive elements of this stay ended. A few negative things happened. When we checked in, our room was supplied with two toothbrushes. This is very expected in a five-star hotel. By the second night, we had run out of toothpaste, but the housekeeping staff had not replaced the toothbrushes. We called down and were rudely told that they only give out one toothbrush per stay. They would give us one more but if we asked for another one, they would have to charge us for it. What! I wish I asked for that individual's name, as I would put it in this review. I have traveled extensively for over forty years and have stayed in five-star hotels all across the globe, and this is the first time I was not provide with new toothbrushes every day. My suggestion to the management, if you wish to continue this policy, is to not provide any toothbrush in the first place, as that experience was simply insulting. We were staying in this hotel for a week. How long do you expect those little baby-sized toothpastes to last? The next day we went to a local store and bought our own toothbrushes and toothpaste. This is simply poor policy. The next problem also involved the housekeeping staff. It was very common that our bar soap, shampoo, and conditioner would not be replaced each day. Again, I have never experienced this at a five-star hotel. Every day, it is common practice that you will find a new supply. If this hotel is trying to save money, and this practice comes down from the top, my humble suggestion is that you re-think this method of operation as it truly leaves your guests without the essentials that they need. On our final day, we left the room at 8:00 AM and returned at approximately 4:00 PM. It still had not been cleaned. I am assuming that the housekeeping staff heard me when I entered the room and exclaimed, "Are you kidding me," because a short time later one of the staff members knocked on the door, "Oh, did you want your room cleaned?" "Of course." Thus, we had to go back outside for a time. Finally, I want to discuss elevator noise in this hotel. Long ago, I learned that you never stay next to an elevator in a hotel, or your sleep will be disrupted by the constant noise. The room they gave us was one room away from the elevator, so I thought we would be fine. Wrong. As stated, this is an old hotel. I didn't notice it when we first checked in or I would have requested a different room, but even though there was a room between us and the elevators, you could hear the elevators moving up and down constantly. If you stay at this hotel, be sure to request a room as far away from the elevators as possible. That's my story. Overall, the staff, except for the one previously mentioned individual, were all very nice. Though, I must state that when we went down to check out at 6:00 AM there was a notice on the reception desk that the staff member was on a break. We had to get one of the kitchen staff to call her to get her back to her station. But, other than that, all of the people seem very nice. This is a good, centrally located hotel, but be aware, it does have its setbacks.
