The Absalon Hotel was a short five minute walk from Copenhagen Central Station and our base for our stay here. Check in went smoothly and front desk staff were quite nice and helpful throughout our stay. The Standard Double room was good size and very comfortable. It had a small closet (could've used more hangars), a safe, desk and comfy lounge chair. No problems with the AC and we could leave the windows open as our room was located away from the street. The TV was located parallel to the bed so we always had to turn our heads to watch. The bathroom had nice counter space and roomy. We were not a fan of the shower which was the European style with the half glass that allowed too much water to get all over the floor. Breakfast got fairly busy and luckily there were two buffet areas to split up the guests. Breakfast every morning was the same food and after awhile it was a bit disappointing that there was no variety at all during our stay. However, the food was filling. The vegetarian section had an interesting selection that included sandwich meat equivalent, mushroom paste from a tube, hummus, etc. There also was a good selection of non-dairy milks. Laundry area was located in the basement and we had to inform the front desk in advance since these were the same washer and dryer used by the hotel cleaning staff. Each load cost roughly 50DKK so it was not cheap. Detergent was automatically injected into the washer so no need to bring or buy your own. If one opted to skip housekeeping then you got a 100DKK voucher each day to use on drinks or snacks at the bar. One caveat there was always a different person each morning making the drinks at the bar and the espressos tasted slightly different each time. Also one day it came in a glass and another day it was in a smaller mug. Luggage storage was available and it was up to the guest to bring and retrieve their luggage from the storeroom. Access to the room was via your keycard but of course it didn't work when we came back in the afternoon to retrieve them. The would be a likely return stay if we come back to Copenhagen. read more

The Absalon was the perfect place for our 6 night stay in Copenhagen! Everything from check-in, to the complimentary breakfast, to the amenities and unique decor made our time in Copenhagen comfortable and special. When we checked-in, the front desk staff were friendly and provided us with lots of local tips for our time in the city. They also let us know that for everyday we opt out of room service, we would receive either a voucher for the bar, a discounted hotel bike rental, or a complimentary beauty product. We opted to skip out on room service most days and received a 100 DKK voucher to spend on drinks at the bar, which were very reasonably priced. Our room was cozy, comfortable, and the bathroom was very nice. Though we booked a smaller room we still felt like we had plenty of space for two people, and the room had an AC unit which came in handy on the more humid days. The hotel breakfast was one of the highlights of our stay. I feel like complimentary hotel breakfasts are becoming more and more scarce, so to have a full spread of breads, meats, cheeses, yogurt, fruits, coffee, and tea was super convenient. One of the best features of the Absalon is probably their location, it's walking distance from so many restaurants and attractions (including Tivoli Gardens) and a short 3 minute walk from central station, so getting around was a breeze. I would absolutely stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Copenhagen! read more

The only thing wrong with our stay at Copenhagen's Absalon Hotel is that it wasn't long enough. We stayed at the Absalon for a single night following a Baltic cruise and were spoiled. Just. That. Quickly. Located about two blocks from Copenhagen's Central train station, the Absalon is convenient to many of the things the city has to offer. Most important to us at the time we booked was the hotel's access to the modes of transportation that would take us home. Departing our cruise ship, we grabbed a taxi that whisked us right to the front door. Once we checked in at the front desk, however, we found it had much more to offer than simply convenient access. The lobby was packed by many of our fellow cruisers who must have had the same idea. While the hotel guarantees availability as of 2 p.m., which is earlier than most hotels, 9:30 was pushing things quite a bit. Fortunately, there is a convivial little bar off the lobby where we sipped coffee, made conversation with some fellow travelers, and generally stayed out of the rain that was dripping on the city. About an hour after we arrived, the front desk advised that our room was ready, so up we went to find what was essentially a studio apartment minus a kitchen. The main sleeping area of our triple room, No. 150, was 12.5 feet square or about 150 square feet, with an adjacent 7-by-10 foot area that held a hide-a-bed sofa. Our room was equipped with an armoire with iron, ironing board and safe; a 42-inch flat-screen TV; a small desk with a hot pot, coffee and tea, and a mini-fridge; and some of the fastest Wi-Fi I've seen in a hotel setting. Download speeds were nearly 60 Mbps and upload speeds about 47 Mbps, as measured by http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest. On the desk was a rare but very welcome amenity: a free Travel Buddy. An Android-based Smartphone, it provided unlimited local and international calls, free Internet access, the latest travel finds, exclusive brands and promotions and speed dial to hotel services. Off the bedroom was a 6-by-7 foot bath with a tub/shower combination, hair dryer, a magnifying mirror for those of us who have achieved "a certain age," bulk amenities, and drinking glasses topped by a note advising that, "In Denmark the tap water is perfectly clean." I can attest it tasted just fine. The room's triple-glazed windows opened to an interior courtyard, allowing for fresh air but also keeping the noise at bay when closed. As experienced travelers know, customer service is where the rubber meets the road. Great service can help travelers overlook minor flaws while lackluster service can make even the best property seem substandard. The service at the Absalon was outstanding indeed. From the desk clerk who welcomed us warmly despite being overwhelmed by early arriving guests to the breakfast room attendant and server who made us feel at home sipping coffee in the lounge while we waited for our room to the customer service representative who came to our room to ensure all was well, we were made to feel like welcome guests instead of merely paying customers. As an extension of that excellent service, the Absalon offers a feature called CONCEPT24, a practice that allows guests to occupy their room for 24 hours, no matter the time of their arrival. The policy allows for early check-in or late departure at no additional cost. The hotel, which was totally refurbished in 2015, offers 161 rooms suites decorated with textiles and wallpapers that create a homey atmosphere in keeping with the Danish art of "hygge" or coziness. It is run by the third generation of the Nedergaard family, which founded it more than 75 years ago. Named for Bishop Absalon, the counsellor to King Valdemar who founded Copenhagen in 1167, the Absalon is easy walking distance to the city's main train station as well as the world-famous Tivoli Gardens. The property has complimentary luggage storage and umbrellas, rental bicycles, and a shared computer terminal fitted into in an antique call box in the lobby. A lounge and breakfast rooms are just off the lobby, and there is a seating area in the open-air courtyard between the hotel and adjacent apartments. Should our travels bring us to Copenhagen again, we will definitely be staying at the Absalson. We encourage you to consider it for your stay as well. read more

Since we never know if we'll ever have a chance to visit most places again, we try to spend extra time at the beginning and/or end of a cruise depending on the cities involved. So, in the spirit of not wanting to miss anything, we stayed 3 days in Copenhagen before our ship set sail. Based on lots of positive reviews, we chose the Absalon Hotel. -   Location: Central. The hotel is about 3 blocks from the main train station...5 blocks from Tivoli Gardens...7 blocks from Parliament and a short distance from lots of stores and restaurants. - Neighborhood: Colorful. The nearby area has something for everyone. We'd be remiss not to mention a shooting one afternoon outside a "Gentlemen's Club" up the street from the hotel. We didn't see or hear it, but the street was closed to traffic by police when we returned from our activities. - Exterior: Classy. The front of the Absalon is curved and faces 2 streets with 7 floors on each side. The clean yet substantial architecture resembles something you'd expect in Europe or in other parts of the world when they try to mimic Europe. -   Room:  Attractive. Our queen superior room on the 5th floor included a bedroom with a sofa, chairs and make-up table, decent sized bathroom with a nice shower and an area inside the front door with closets and the ability to store luggage. Furnishings were tasteful and understated and we had windows which opened to the street. One note: The bed sheets were somewhat scratchy. I must mention our friends reserved a room with the identical description for the same price, yet it was at least 25% smaller. The interior was similar, but without a sofa and separate area just inside the door. - Reception: Excellent. Both check-in and check-out were fast, friendly and without fuss. On the day we checked out, our group decided to walk to Tivoli Gardens in the morning before we boarded the ship in the afternoon. The Absalon has 2 rooms set aside where you can store your luggage for several hours. One person we'd mention for special recognition is the concierge, Alexsander, who referred to himself as the "slim, young, white guy from Sweden on a staff full of Danes". His enthusiasm for helping people find restaurants, shops and museums was contagious. Just a fun guy. - Breakfast: Wow. I can't imagine many people staying at the hotel choosing to go elsewhere. The buffet (actually 2 buffets in 2 rooms to accommodate everyone) went well beyond the usual cereal, eggs and fruit. The variety and quality of food was such you could easily fill yourself for the next 4-6 hours. - Service: Excellent. Whenever we needed extra towels...which was every day...someone appeared with a new supply within 10 minutes. Employees in the 2 breakfast sections worked hard to maintain a full stockpile of food while keeping everything as clean and orderly as possible. Another example: On the day we departed, they requested a taxi large enough for 4 people and tons of baggage and gave us the cost in advance. -   Price and Value: Reasonable. The Absalon is not cheap, but neither is it expensive. We paid $263 per night for 3 nights, including a hefty tax. However, as mentioned previously, our friends paid the same amount for what turned out to be a smaller room. Double-check any reservation. Would we recommend the Absalon Hotel? Staying here for 3 nights and at the hotel bar my mom wanted to try another red wine because she didn't like the one she order and the guy behind the bar said, "the bottle was too expensive to try". They also didn't know how to make another drink from the menu. Why have a full bar and huge fridge of wine if you lack the knowledge? The first floor with room number 40-60s is annoyingly another half floor down after pressing the 1st floor. No wheelchair access that I could see. Rooms are fine otherwise. Location is close to train station, but close to strip clubs if that bothers you. Breakfast was decent and no complaints about that. Overall, the stay was fine. Looks like a few of these reviews are for The Annex - the hostel portion of the hotel. I indeed stayed in the hotel. Located a block from the train station, this hotel is a dream if you have an early morning train outta town. Fairly central located to Tivoli Gardens, on the cusp of Vesterbro and with the metro right at your finger tips, it's so easy to get around. Don't want to stray too far? There are a ton of restaurants, bars and cafes just a few minute walk away. SCORE. The negative: - The internet did not work. It's free and with no passcode, the whole world must have been using it since it was the worst connection I've had in a very long time. It made mapping out our day extremely painful. Absolutely horrible. I'd rather of paid and had internet capability. - It's located in such a great 'hood, that weekend nights are loud. I'm a heavy sleeper, so I slept on thru, but the hubs didn't sleep a wink. Our train had us leaving at 6AM and even then there were some stragglers on the street. It didn't help that our well designed, modern and very comfortable room was a corner room on the street. All those beautiful windows casting beautiful light and showing off the city views were just loud speakers to drunken Danes. - Our complimentary drink tickets (from a promo) went unused. We went to grab a drink before dinner but the bar was packed with a good 10 people in line. There was one bartender on a Friday night. The ok: - Breakfast. Yay for free breakfast. However, it definitely didn't wow. Regular pastries and rolls, yogurt, granola, meats and cheeses. No fruit. Nothing hot. Ok coffee. - We had an early morning train to catch and we asked if we could grab breakfast early. They ended up making up a goodie bag to go: water, juice roll with cheese and a pastry! So nice! The good: - The hotel itself is really nice. The rooms are tasteful and modern and the neighborhood is so convenient to exploring the city. Ultimately, I probably wouldn't recommend staying here mostly because of the internet. Noise and the bar are one-off issues (request a room not facing the street). I do know that Copenhagen can get super pricy, so if the price is right, know that the place is stylish, plush and a great option with some minor flaws. read more

It is full service - including all mapping and international phone calls for free. Each room has a refrigerator and is very spacious. No ac but windows open up and lovely breeze coming in. I flew in solo and had to spend 1 night at a hotel and the Absalon was the nicest and cheapest option for me. I checked in at about 4 or so and the room was nice and clean and all ready for me. These are not carpeted rooms, so be warned. They have great central heating and it never feels like you're suffocating or burning up due to that. The bed, pillows, linens were super comfy and the chairs, table, light in the center of room gave it a classier edge. I did make the mistake of not seeing the "do not disturb" sign on the gray/silver/glass counter of the desk they and got a knock on the door this morning - had to hurry up and tell them that I did not need service. That was my fault for not looking closer. The bathroom is somewhat small but I was able to manage. The shower is great, the tub is deep and the shower head/nozzle/hose is all adjustable, so it will work on tall guys like myself without much adjusting about. The toiletries are scars as to what you get. You don't get anything actually except some q-tips, mini-filer, and a make-up pad remover. Hmmmm. The shampoo acts as a body wash, too, so there's that. I also opted for the late check-in and was granted an extra hour to catch up on rest at no extra charge. The ladies at the front desk are super sweet, gorgeous, and helped me out with any and all questions I had. I was meeting people later on and did not feel like storing my luggage and asked if I could stay in the lobby and read a bit. They said that would be totally ok. I also had a beer and at the bar and that was cool. Unbeknownst to me, the Absalon is technically in the "red light" district, which I did not know about, so walking through there was quite amusing. It is right next to the Meatpacking District, which has the new fashionably grimey bars and restos that locals hit up. The staff are cute Danish chicks who are uber helpful. The rooms are clean, organized and spacious...for Scandinavia. The outdoor patio is money for socializing with your neighbors. The Central train station is 2 blocks away if you want to bounce to Norway or Sweden, quickly, like Louis R did. The breakfast had a ton of options to select from, and pretty healthy. This hotel was very pleasant after being a little crammed in the Hilton hotel in Stockholm. I was pleased that this room was much larger in size. Going just off reviews when selecting this hotel, I think I scored well. Check in was easy. I liked the bright vibrant colors of the hotel. It was a combination of modern with a little bit of eclectic. Internet speeds were on point as I was able to catch 10+ episodes of Modern Family on Netflix without a hitch because I felt ill one day. I read reviews of outside noise but didn't experience any of it because I had an interior room. Super bonus: the bathroom. It was not only clean but large enough to break dance inside of. The previous places hotels I visited in Finland and Sweden had you cramming in for a little space. The metro was just two blocks up the road. If you're looking to explore the city, getting on a train is quite easy. Restaurants, bars, and even strip clubs (no, I didn't go), were all within walking distance of Absalon, too. I thought the location of this hotel to find things to do was money. I definitely recommend this hotel. read more

This could have easily been a four-star rating, as the Absalon Hotel features a favorable location near central station and not far away from the vibrant meatpacking district. Furthermore the staff were friendly, our room was clean and rather spacious and the free Wi-Fi was the fastest I've ever used. But there was one big downside. We stayed at Absalon for four nights during a very warm July. The room temperature thus rose quickly during the day and as there was no air conditioning the only chance to cool it halfway down was opening the windows at night. Unfortunately the windows were facing the inner courtyard of the hotel. Down there were chairs and tables where hotel guests could eat breakfast or enjoy a late night drink. And they did. Because of the architectural situation with four walls surrounding the courtyard every spoken word and laughter was reflected and amplified. So even on the 4th floor it felt as if we were amidst those people. We hardly couldn't sleep, not even earplugs helped. Asking for another room was no option as the only alternative would have been rooms facing the busy Istedgade. It really is a pity that the hotel itself is responsible for this noise. They should close the courtyard from 10 p.m. on to provide their guests a good night's rest. Or install AC in their rooms. read more

Best hotel we stayed at during our Euro trip! Stayed at the hotel portion, not the hostel, and service was impeccable. Located at a central location, walking distance to Tivoli Gardens, Central Train Station and also the meat packing district, this was located in the perfect place. Staff was so helpful and lobby was clean and spacious, containing lots of space for people to sit and relax. We stayed Monday to Wednesday and each night the lobby was full of people playing chess, having drinks. It was a lively atmosphere. The free breakfast was also quite impressive. There was pastries and breads and cheese and jam, cereal, yogurt with fresh fruit, coffee brought to the table, variety of breads. I really was not expecting this elaborate of a "continental breakfast"! The service was also great even during this free breakfast. On more than one occasion, they helped bring me more coffee and find more mugs when they were all gone from the shelf. People mentioned the wifi being slow, and although it wasn't super fast, it was usable. Bathrooms and rooms were clean, and service was also timely. Only thing was... no one mentioned to me that this was sort of the unofficial "red light district" in Copenhagen! Every night we saw girls outside wrapped in sweaters but obviously soliciting business on the street corner with a sign "the happy hooker only lives in your imagination." I didn't really mind but I didn't expect it. There's also a sex shop across the street. read more

The Annex is the hostel part of the Absalon Hotel in hipster-central Vesterbro. Basically the same building, they share the reception, the courtyard and the bar. Unlike other hostels, the Annex doesnt have a kitchen or common area other than the hotel bar which is pricey and frequented by mainly hotel guests so it's a bit ...subdued. The rooms are very clean, basic but funky and there are plenty of showers and toilets on every floor. Wifi works great everywhere and towels are provided. You can even have them changed every day if you wanted to. The walls however are paper-thin, so bring ear plugs. Even when people in the next room to you aren't partying, you'll hear everything. And oh, make sure you get a room that doesn't face the main road. They are a bit quieter at night. read more

Pros: The room/tv/shower/most of the staff/breakfast is good. The hotel is dated and definitely expensive for what it is but alas one must expect to pay a lot to visit Denmark. The breakfast was very nice, lots of options, Scandinavian flavors and fresh pastries daily. The staff are always replenishing the food and cleaning the tables so we always had a clean place to sit in the morning. Water pressure is good in the shower. There are English speaking channels and movies available. Cons: After traveling 19hours to get there, we were dead tired and the guy checking us in told us he needed to check to see if the room was ready, to take a seat and it would take a minute. He began socializing with other guests, asking the men how the girls in Copenhagen were and pretty much forgot about us. We ended up having to ask again if our room was ready (check in is 2pm, we were there at 2:45pm). He apologized and offered us a drink but we were so tired we just wanted to go lay down. We got a room on the 1st floor facing the front, above the flags and awning. While the room was fine for us, every night between 3-4am there were men screaming at the top of their lungs out front. The smell of cigarette smoke also wafted into our room at varying hours from folks sitting out front. Overall, it was a central location but we wouldn't stay here again. read more

Staff was rude and unwilling to help when mentioned the shifty temperatures on the shower. The girl couldn't care less. read more

I would definitely recommend staying here. We stayed here on a Saturday to Tuesday trip in early December. The room was nice and extremely quiet. The breakfast had a lot of variety, and although very crowded every morning we were always able to find a table. This is a good location and a few blocks from Tivoli Gardens and the main shopping street. The hotel overall is very cute and my wife enjoyed it. I'm not quite sure why in Copenhagen all the rooms seem to have two comforters, one for each person, and no top sheet, but other than seeing strange it was not an issue. Being able to buy Tivoli tickets from the hotel and pre order a price fix can back to the airport was helpful. read more

First night in copenhagen I spent it here. If you don't care about amenities this might be ok for you. The rooms are small and they don't have air conditioning just a fan! Don't stay here if you need AC. Also the pillows I got had a bad odor and I couldn't sleep on it without smelling it that I had to request new ones. The breakfast here is pretty good with a wide selection. They have really good crossaints, cheese and meats. The hotel is close to the train station and there is a 7/11 around the corner along with some restaurants I havn't tried. Also the room comes with a smart phone that you can use during your stay. It is considered the room phone so that's a plus if you need go use maps or whatnot walking around town. All calls are free! read more

Well, I am a little disappointed in the hotel room. The room is small in comparison to the room at Hotel i31 In Berlin, Germany. There is a 12" walkway between the bed and the closet. At the bottom to the left of the closet is the safe, which is very difficult to access. Or setup or read the instructions. The bathroom has two wall dispensers. One for soap and the other for shampoo. The soap dispenser is by the sink and the shampoo is in the shower\tub area. I am trying to figure out how to get the soap from the sink to the shower\tub....One more thing, be careful of the step up\down to the bathroom. There is a flat screen TV on the wall with less than 15 TV stations and five music station. There is free WiFi in the room. The room is clean and bright. There is an non-stocked under the table refrigerator. Not sure if we would stay here again. read more

Stayed here for a week on business and leisure. It has a great central location - but be careful at night because it can get a little dodgy. The sheets on the bed left us feeling rather itchy..at first chalked it up to the dry air, but soon realized it only happened in the beds. TV literally has ten working channels. Want to relax after a long day and watch a movie, forget about it. The tv did show capability to screen share or use chrome cast, but it wasn't working, and the front desk just said it wasn't built to do that -- no room service in terms of food. You can order from two restaurants nearby, but that stops at 830. Honestly, this hotel has minimal amenities and minimal staff support. Next time it will definitely be worth looking elsewhere and even just paying a little more somewhere else for some more basic comfort options. I would never book this hotel with children or a family. Not suitable for a vacation type of stay. read more

I was expecting more. I purposely opted out of my corporate suggestion to stay at The Marriott and wanted something more 'local'. The welcome/reception was pretty unextraordinary, and the facilities below what I would have expected. For example, I liked the spaciousness of our room, but the bathroom was tiny and not very well organized so I always had towels on the floor. I also didn't like they didn't offer any bathroom amenities. Like soap, conditioner, hand soap, etc. it was essential a big vat of generic soap affixed to the wall. I thought I would see some local cosmetic brands to try, etc. breakfast was really not that good. Yea. I know it's European style, but it really lacked variety. I ended up eating up eating cereal and hard boiled eggs. It was pretty bland experience. And I ate so well in Copenhagen...just not for breakfast at this hotel. I also had to borrow an iron to iron my shirts and was told to go to the basement where it was pretty dingy, non operational equipment, etc. they ended up lending me a board and an iron which I had to bring up on my own. I'm no princess, but it was unexpected given how much I was spending here. read more

We stayed here for a night en route to Sweden (via Copenhagen - Malmo bridge) and it has to be said it was not the standard you would expect for the same money in the UK. The room cost nearly £90 for two people sharing but it was maybe only 6ft by 10ft in area, had no bathroom facilities and the decor was a little tired, though clean. The shared bathroom facilities were clean and numerous, so there is not much complaint on that score but this is really a hostel at hotel prices. Much of that is probably due to the high cost of living in Denmark - you don't get much for your money on a trip to Copenhagen - and so it is not fair to absolutely pan it on this score. Where is picks up bonus points is the high quality of service from a very helpful and friendly staff and a more than adequate included buffet breakfast of Danish delicacies.
