Promoting the culture of the Scandinavian countries, this place is considered a museum but cultural center is the more appropriate term. I walked in one day just to see the art exhibit section and discovered that it is very small. However, they also have film screenings and concerts periodically and there is a gift shop with some unique items. This place used to be home to a very authentic Scandinavian restaurant called Aquavit. It has since closed down and been replaced by a place called Smorgas Chef. Smorgas Chef is less high end but still gets fairly good reviews.

This place is a really amazing cultural center and it has a really good Scandinavian restaurant inside. To start, we ordered the lingonberry soda. It was really good, and had actual lingonberries in the bottom. Next came the danish bread basket. It was amazing, and had two different types of bread and a cracker. For lunch, we got the smorgasbord. That was the best smorgasbord that I have ever had! It had pickled herring in two different sauces, pox, a cracker, cucumber dill salad, beet and Apple salad, potato salad (it was like shredded potatoes cooked with something else), and Swedish meatballs on top of a mound of mashed potatoes and lingonberry preserves. The plate looks small, but is amazingly filling. It was a little expensive, but very good, and definitely worth the experience.

Their shrimp toast and seafood bisque made a lovely lunch. It was beautifully presented. Delicious, fresh and perfect combinations.

After standing for a few hours, I really regretted not getting a ticketed seat for myself. So in the future, I'm glad that I have that option. Once you enter The Shed, you take the escalator upstairs to get to the concert hall. At the end of the concert, the doors open and lead you out right next to The Vessel so I thought that was a nice visual perk at the end of the concert. I hope I get a chance to come back and get to walk around the place and see a little bit more of it.

Located in Hudson Yards, it's near the Vessel and other attractions unique to this developed area. Now showing--This World of Tomorrow with Tom Hanks. Theater review: seating was 3 escalator flights up where most seats were good ones. Comfortable folding style chairs with the theater exhibiting good lighting and audio. There was a mobile bar during intermission that offered wine, water and soda for purchase. I didn't see any merchandise for sale. Production review: When I learned Tom Hanks would be performing Off Broadway in "This World of Tomorrow", I was eager to get tickets. Although the production is Off Broadway, the prices were definitely Broadway and no surprise there with headliner Tom Hanks--one of my top favorite actors of all time--in the starring role. The play takes place in the year 2089 and is all about time travel with Hanks' character--Bert--traveling back to 1939 during New York's World Fair. Without giving anything away, the storyline explores themes on falling in love, technology and what makes life meaningful. We really enjoyed the production which runs through December 21. Overall, it received positive reviews. Some were mixed and in my opinion, I thought the play should have been shaved down by 20 -30 minutes (it was 2 hours + 15 min with intermission). As a Tom Hanks fan, it was truly a delightful treat on a holiday weekend.

She ended up not applying to Yeshiva but we did make it to the museum. I love this entire area and the museum is a gem. I think that they have some permenant exhibits and then rotate other items out, not really sure. But while we were there we saw some "sacred letters" and some other I guess what you would call modern artifacts? The entire staff was friendly and knowledgable and we must have come at a great time of the day becuase even though it seemed like the streets were bustling, the museum was not too crowded. Definately a great place to check out for Jewish history.

One of the benefits of visiting lots of museums is that you develop a nice little routine. Some steps necessary, others mere symptoms of OCD. No need to delve into the OCD here but I will share a few of the more useful steps. 1. My most importan tip, VISIT the website of the museum, close to the time and day of your trip. In this case - http://www.yumuseum.org. This will help you to avoid awkward situations like standing helplessly outside of the closed museum and watching all the pretty people inside drinking wine and having fun for a PRIVATE event. It will also remind you of important nuggets like when the museum offers free or discounted admission. Yeshiva University Museum happens to free on Mondays. 2. Stalk the museum on social media (Twitter @yumuseum, Instagram @yumuseum, FB https://www.facebook.com/YeshivaUniversityMuseum) This will give you a sense of the more popular and selfie worthy exhibits to either prioritize or avoid based on your preferences. The museum was cool, quiet and virtually empty when I visited, leaving me free to peruse the gorgeous photos of the highly-lauded Borscht Belt exhibit, at my leisure. 3. Ask the museum staff for their recommendations. Even with all my research, I didn't realize that the building for the Yeshiva University Museum (The Center for Jewish History) actually housed four additional partner institutions, the American Jewish Historical Society, the American Sephardi Federation, the Leo Baeck Institute, the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. And while the Yeshiva University Museum gallery was the only exhibit actually open at the time of my visit, the helpful front desk staff gave me the inside scoop on an upcoming event where I could be one of the pretty people on the inside and not on the outside, staring in.
