Industrial looking toilet with no seat cover, mess of a tub with what appeared to be mold

Just looking for a reasonably priced place for my wife to sleep from midnight to 8 AM after an international flight. My wife called when she arrived and said I can't stay here. She's from Brazil and used to roughing it, but this was too much, moldy, looking tub, industrial, looking toilet, peeling paint, nobody would help her with heavy bags, despite injured hand, just a nightmare And she couldn't sleep. Just stayed awake for the night. When I called to cancel a date to stay in this hotel three weeks down the road when I was expected to be in town next they refused to let me cancel, saying I chosen nonrefundable option and it doesn't matter that it's three weeks away and they can rent the room to somebody else they want my money too. The supervisor was incredibly snappy and rude very hard to believe this is a Catholic organization, I should've read the horrific reviews before scheduling it for my wife or myself, and we are contesting it on our credit card the future date not even this date. Believe the reviews that say one don't walk.

We were off on an adventure to drop my son off at school. We wanted to stay somewhere that was reasonably priced. My friend recommended the place and we thought, why not, let's try it. it is located in the Chelsea district and upon entering it has just the right amount of security. We were greeted and given our room key. They have strict rules but nothing that was to crazy. The room is basic, a shower, a bed and a small closet with an air conditioner in the window. Clean and comfortable. We slept great and in the morning I made it down to their patio for a little yoga and prayer. If you are looking for a safe space to rest your head after a long day of NYC, this is a perfect spot! Oh---- and did I mention Catholic Charities manages The Lip House, so the monies go to a worthy organization.

Horrible service. We checked in, the room was so, I don't know how to explain it. There was no Air Conditioning and it was HOT in there. The bathroom window works open but the main room window would not. You could hear ever sound in your room from the hallway, elevator, hallway (shared bathroom). There was absolutely no privacy. The front desk man called our room and was very rude to me. Offered a fan. They brought up a fan covered in 5 years worth of dust. I checked with Expedia about getting a different place to stay. The front desk refused a refund for our 4 night stay, even though we were there less than 45 minutes, not even a partial refund. Take a look at the 1960s key, if that tells you how outdated this property is.

This is an older property, read up on the history of this building if you're curious. I love it. Don't trip here - It's a religious guest house NOT a typical hotel or even a motel. Very simple lodging and run a certain way. The service can sometimes be stern, but I have also met the kindest, loveliest people that work here. Refunds are tricky, non existent past a certain point, so know that. Probably best not to commit unless your plans are solid. Suggest visitors read the rules prior to arrival. I have stayed here many times. Again, it's an older property, owned by the Catholics, hasn't been updated too much over the decades. It doesn't smell. It's always appeared quite clean to me, and I am a stickler for cleanliness. Amenities that one may be accustomed to may not be offered. If you know what you are signing up for, it's always fine and a unique stay. I can sometimes hear the hallway noises a bit much from the room, but I have experienced that at other very expensive NY hotels. It's a great location, it's affordable. You get a clean bed in a clean room in the middle of one of the greatest cities in the world.

It was simple, friendly, comfortable, and reflected a warm heart. A great location and respite.

All the housekeeping and maintenance staff alwys had a smile and hello whenever you saw them. The only let down was the extremly rude bar tender who looked and acted like he couldnt care less about serving someone. We received the free drinks voucher and asked what it covered, instead of replying he shrugged his shoulders and said " whatever" not very helpful at all. Rooms were adequately sized for NYC but very well lit and the beds were extremley comfortable. Bathroom was stocked well and was a good size, great powerful shower which is often missing in hotels. I loved the mint and lemon flavored waters in reception, it was nice a cold and refreshing. The location was fabulous and felt very safe. Everything you needed was in a few minutes walk ( with a police station literally a few steps away!). I would highly recommend this for a city break or business hotel while in NYC, its a practical, comfortable spot for a few days.

I'd seen reviews on yelp that people had booklets in their rooms with how to use the workout equipment and even how to find workout videos on the tv. I could not find any of that. Since it's Manhattan, the room is very small so there's no chair in the room which I would have liked but instead two stools. The bed was soft in a lovely way and I found it luxurious. The little touches made this room feel like a respite from the exciting chaos of Manhattan. A tree printed on the drapes, blue painted ceiling felt open like the sky. The lighting was the best I've see in a hotel. The floorboards of the bed lit up, there were colored lights above the headboard which could change not only colors but also brightness. My favorite were the reading lamps next to the bed which could be set at any angle and any brightness. The location was perfect for me. Excellent bagels, coffee, pizza within steps. Penn station was almost at the doorstep. And it was close enough for a long walk to Washington square park or east village. Check in was fast but maybe too fast? I only knew there was a workout room on the 7th floor because I read that on Yelp but wasn't told at check in. I overheard that the doors lock at 9p but wasn't told that either. I was given a voucher for a free drink in the bar. However when I went to the bar the bartender was on his cell phone and didn't acknowledge me for over a minute. When he finally did , it was with that "what do you need little lady" condescending smile as if I'd done something foolish. Also, the only beers were bud or lite beers. The sink in the room was always room temperature so I could not get drinkable water. I drank it anyway but it tasted gross. There was ice water in the lobby so I started using that until one day it was empty so I filled my water bottle with what I thought was lemon water. Nope it was sugary lemonade. Again, this should have been explained at check in or have a sign. I couldn't wash the taste of sugary lemonade out of my water bottle until I got home. I came and went multiple times each of the days I was there and only once was I greeted by the front desk staff. However, when I approached them to ask for an extra blanket, they were very helpful and the blanket was in my room before I returned from buying a bagel. There were multiple long black hairs in my room and since I have very short brown hair I knew they were not mine. Additionally, although I drank coffee, the keurigs k cups were not replaced until I called the front desk. These were only light roast so I mostly opted for Gregory coffee down the street which actually tasted like coffee rather than dirty water. The shampoo did not feel sudsy. The conditioner did not feel hydrating. I'd bring my own next time and I'm normally not picky since my hair is only an inch long. All in all, this was a good hotel and I would stay here again.

We had a great time and the staff made us feel like we were visiting family (who have a very nice house!). The hotel is located near so many great cafes, restaurants, several cute local parks and bars. You're a short walk to anywhere or a cheap Uber wherever. We booked the Stonewall suite which was down 2 floors into the basement. It is HUGE!! There's 2 queen size beds, a double shower, a mini kitchenette with a microwave, fridge, there's a table and 4 chairs, a giant tv, and plenty of furniture to store your things and put your stuff on. My sister in law and nephew stayed in a different suite and they also had a spacious unit with a living room, fridge, pullout couch and a small loft upstairs with the queen bed. The staff were so wonderful and helpful. We met 3 of them over the weekend and everyone was very friendly. I had no issues with having a friend stay in my room the first night and then I asked to change the sheets the next night because I had senior aged parents join me. The staff were very nice about that request too. There's a $58 cleaning fee which I paid upon arrival. It's also adults only (no kids under 10) which I actually really like. My teenage nephew stayed there and that was fine with the house rules.

They have a little coffee, tea area. The coffee was meh and the space was quiet early in the morning. It's a nice location. The decor was fun & cute. The room and facilities didn't seem rundown or dirty at all. Con - the room is not cleaned during the day; I felt like I was being up-charged quite a bit. That may have been my fault... I called Chelsea Pines directly, wound up talking to some agent at a booking website, thought I had booked a room with 2 beds. When we got there, I found out that we only had 1 bed in the room with 3 adults. The pictures on the booking website all show the same photo with 2 beds in the picture and you have to read the fine print to see how many beds you actually have. That could be the booking websites issue, not the hotels. The charge for an extra person in the room was $130 a person. The water pressure in the toilets is set to high ... so flushing the toilet involves getting sprayed in the face by toilet water. Close the lid before flushing. Beware of the juice in the fridge ... it was horrible and tasted like watered down power-aide. They have coffee cups for use on-site. These are not all clean, so be careful before you start pouring your drink in. Bottom-line .... I don't know that I would stay here again. For the cost I wound up paying for 3 people, I would just get a larger room with 2 beds and more space.

Dear Hotel Manager,…read more I am writing to formally address two significant issues my partner and I experienced during our recent stay in Room 2207, and to request appropriate compensation. First, our room had a persistent mold smell throughout our stay. We noticed visible mold near the window unit, and each time the air came on, it circulated a musty odor throughout the room. After two days of dealing with this, my partner began suffering from migraines triggered by the smell. I called the front desk at 11:30 AM to report the issue, but we never received an adequate resolution. Second, all three elevators were out of service simultaneously, leaving us stranded on the 22nd floor for approximately 25 minutes at 0400. As a result, we missed our scheduled Uber. To make matters worse, I called the front desk six times regarding the elevator situation and received no answer. Because of this, my partner -- who is dealing with an ankle injury -- was forced to walk down from the 22nd floor on her own to speak with someone in person. This was completely unacceptable given her condition. These were not minor inconveniences. They caused real discomfort, health impacts, and financial loss. I would appreciate a prompt response regarding what compensation your property is prepared to offer for our experience. There were no complimentary toiletries, mini fridge, or working outlets. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
