The engines themselves are also very cool and quite a bit larger than i expected. I was surprised as well that there was a little section on the second floor which allows you to see the top view of the engines as well as the steeple. Fair warning that the museum isn't air conditioned except the top levels. You can also join a tour which I believe costs money, but this allows you to go into the engines and explore.

My favorite part was to see some of the belt driven machinery actually work. We had visited the day after a person had come and replaced some of the belts. We were able to see a belt driven (automated) saw cut through a chunk of metal. It was an impromptu demo as we were walking around the the staff member saw us examining this particular piece of equipment (with our eyes of course). And he started it up for us. Again...staff is really enthusiastic and engaging. We also got to see where they do hands on workshops, where kids can design and print things in 3D, which is pretty cool. They had a nice even space as well for smaller weddings/events. Easy parking (pay) in a nearby garage and a easy walk across the bridge/walkway to get to the museum. If this type of history interests you, I would definitely recommend you stopping by. We were there for a couple of hours and throughly enjoyed the staff showing us around. Cute gift shop as well.

The guys working the front desk are super knowledgeable, funny, helpful and nice. One of them was kind enough to give us a brief intro when we first arrived. They can totally geek out on all sorts of interesting facts, which I live to absorb. Still, I wish I had planned it in advance so we could have a formal tour because there's so much to see. Before coming here I had no idea that Massachusetts held such a rich industrial heritage. We spent two hours exploring the two story museum. There were plenty of interactive exhibits (great for the kiddos and adults) and each time we looped around the museum we found something else we missed the first time going through. This place is a haven especially for those who are interested in history and engineering. They had antique bikes, wooden cars, steam fire engines, watchmaking tools, belt driven machines, typography machines, horse drawn fire truck, and even a phone booth! They also do a great job of mixing in some modern and new exhibits (e.g., we saw whimsical puppetry paintings by Tanya Harsch). The second floor also has a beautiful and grand ballroom space (perfect for corporate events or weddings). I can't wait to come back here. Reviewing it as a venue for a large party - haven't taken any community classes there. The frustrating: ~SC isn't really owned by anybody - it has a board of directors. The guy who's supposed to respond to all the inquiries about reservations was not the most responsive by email, but was pretty responsive by phone. He's a stilt walker in a grateful dead coverband who manages a community art space in JP - he's a very salt-of-the-earth kind of guy, which worked for us, but you just need to know that that's what you're signing on for - someone who isn't going to get back to your emails right away, who you may have to track down a bit, but who is super nice and very laid back in approach. I am not laid back, but I came prepared with the questions I wanted answered and got all the answers I needed in writing on our contract. ~You never quiiiite know what you're walking into when you walk into the space. They host a ton of different kinds of community events, so how it's decorated when you see it one time might not necessarily be the way you see it when you visit it next. People are supposed to clean up after themselves, but there are varying extents of that. You never even really know which light switch is going to turn the lights on. The fantastic: ~Those frustrating points above are SO minor compared to the fact that for just a few hundred bucks you can have a wedding venue space (everywhere else I called was in the multiple-thousand dollar range and had a ton of restrictions on what you could bring in/restricted to their own catering/facilities/booze etc). It is a gorgeous space that kind of feels like a big summer camp recreation hall, with 2 floors, indoor balconies, a stage and a bar. It felt like a true barn-raising - we had a dozen of our friends show up early and help with setup, hanging lights from the ceiling, bringing my husband's dj equipment and speakers, a friend home-brewed 5 kegs of beer and brought another several cases of booze from the company he works for, and we fed our friends with beer, a big-batch order of pizzas from JP House of Pizza, and 150 Union Square Donuts. It was a 90s throwback dance party with a lot of games and a lot of love - low key and marvelous. I cannot have imagined a more ideal space than Spontaneous Celebrations, and to do it so affordably makes me want to scream to the world how worthwhile this place is. RECOMMEND! HIGHLY!

It has exhibits that ranges from ancient religious relics to modern day. Occupying 3 floors, the museum is open from Thursday to Sundays. There is a ceremony at the beginning featuring the national anthems of the US and Taiwan. Then, a dragon led parade kicks off the festivities with different groups representatives, the vendor activities, and entertainment. There is something for everyone from friends of Taiwanese people to second generation immigrants who participate and acknowledge their heritage. It is run by all volunteers who have day jobs and extremely well organized. It has also been steadily growing in scope and size, and anyone is welcome.
