This is not a compliment nor a complaint but rather a "for other customers information" review: I purchased furniture for two bedrooms. Quality was good. Price was just OK about average with other competitors. The sleeper sofa I purchased for the second bedroom was not very comfortable so I had it re-done. The delivery people were rude and unprofessional. Did not bring shoe covers for my new carpet, yelling down the hallway, and then broke a sign over the front door of the building because they were impatient and careless on leaving. I called the store to speak with Mark and he never returned my call. A few weeks later, I went into the store to see him and he looked at me and ignored me. I had actually gone in there to order furniture for the living and dining rooms, but I decided to drop $12G elsewhere. I also wanted to mention that I spent money and time to have the sign they damaged repaired, but the delivery driver said there was a $40 balance. I thought that was really tacky that he wanted the $40 after inconveniencing me for an hour and a half's time for my handyman to come repair the sign. I gave him the $, but I highly recommend if you purchase here bring your own truck or get your own company to deliver. So two stars deducted: one for the delivery co. and one for no follow up from the store. read more

Great selection and great customer care. I ordered two recliners from Norway and am thrilled with them. Some of the higher quality items, such as couches and specialized recliners made in Europe as opposed to Asia, are not kept in stock as much and you have to wait 6 months for delivery. This location - while maybe not as large as the Culver City showroom - is still well stocked and the sales team is terrific. They have decent sales, so make sure to sign up for their email list. And delivery to most parts of LA is a flat $100... which is a total bargain. Love this store as we have purchased office furniture from it even when it was called PLUMMERS. So we have been customers for decades. We went there to add to our office in hopes of finding Snowflake-- I believe the line is called. But we were informed they were no longer selling it. After shopping for a comfortable recliner all over town, we went to Scandinavian Designs. Their showroom is filled with beautiful, well-made furniture, mostly with a contemporary flare and some with mid-century aesthetics. Lucie was very friendly and patient with us and we ended up ordering a medium-sized Ekornes Stressless Mayfair recliner. Upon receiving and sitting in the recliner for a while, I realized the fit was not as comfortable as I thought from trying it in the store - the headrest was too low and the edge of the seat didn't support my thighs very well. The recliner itself was well-crafted, it was just too small for me. Since the invoice clearly stated that special orders cannot be cancelled or returned, I thought I was stuck with it. But Lucie and the manager, Tom, arranged for me to exchange this recliner for another Ekornes model (large Reno) which fits me much better. I was so relieved and gratified that they were willing to make sure I was satisfied - the mark of an excellent, customer-oriented company. They said they wanted to keep me as a long-term customer; their service and help certainly guaranteed that! read more

I'm all about Plummers and I cannot rave enough about them. We bought our entire bedroom set at this location. I remember the night well... Hubby and I had moved into our house a year earlier but still didn't have anything that resembled a bedroom set....just a mattress on a frame and a beat up cardboard-like armoir. We saw an ad for Plummers and had to check it out! Unfortunately, Plummers was closing in 15 minutes and we were a good 15 minutes away...and it was raining...grrrr. We would never get there in time. So we called and the manager said he would keep the store open for us and to "come on down!" We hauled butt and made it just shortly after closing time, and true to his word, he waited for us. We walked into the store and my jaw hit the ground. I was in LOVE. Beautiful modern furniture at reasonable prices?! Heck ya! We picked out the bedroom set and even bought the mattress. Good riddance to the old one! The manager never pushed us to hurry up and make a decision. He just kept telling us to take our time. Our bedroom set was delivered a couple of weeks later, and we are still in love with it! read more

The furniture here is very affordable for designed furniture. They deliver and set up for a small fee. I have a couch and chair from here and was able to negotiate the prices down a bit too, yes you can negotiate here. The staff is extremely helpful and aren't as pushy as other places like Living Spaces. If your looking for a place that is more affordable than West Elm or Crate & Barrel, definitely come here. Quality is much better than IKEA and they do have some decent designs. read more

Hello, I have purchased some furniture from this store to find out later that it has some design flaws for example I bought a Queen size bed but the frame is too long and too wide for the matress. I had to go to Lowe's and buy a sheet of MDF to cover the frame slats. I have attached pics. I even had to get a long piece of foam to compensate for the 3" separation from the headboard. Btw, the headboard comes with a special wood frame that is attached to the bedframe. You'll end up with a 4" gap from the wall. I didn't like that so I got rid of that stupid frame and went back to Lowe's and bought a picture frame bracket to hang the headboard from the wall itself and wow! I love it! Almost no gap! read more

I have only been to Plummers once but it was AWESOME. We wanted to buy relatively cheap but nice stuff but did not want to deal with Ikea...I agree with Melissa A. about not wanting to put the stuff together. Plummers has a lot of floor/as-in type items that are hugely discounted and we bought a table that was around half off just because it had a couple scratches in it. You can barely see them. We also bought a floor model bureau that is in perfect condition and that was hugely discounted too. The third item we bought was a cute kitchen table and chairs that we love. Everything was black wood which matches all of our old Ikea stuff...(but knowing Ikea, that stuff could fall apart at any minute.....ehh, but that is for another review at another time!) Anyway, I think that have other locations but this one was great.......the delivery was pretty inexpensive and the only con was they were so early neither myself or Paul was home. When Paul got there they had already put everything together...on our lawn I guess! Overall it was a great experience.....I plan to go back there soon! read more

The staff at Scandinavian Design were very helpful and accommodating to my changing circumstances. We purchased some items there for an office. Before receiving them the use of the room change to a bedroom and I couldn't use the office items. They allowed me to cancel the order without any penalties. So when the the circumstances for the use of the room changed back, I called them back up and reordered the items. Everything, desk and drawers, have been working quite nicely. I had one of my most frustrating customer service moments at this store and it's unfortunate because I've spent money there and was ready to spend money again. I called the store on a Saturday to confirm they carried a chair I needed for my dining room set. I was having a dinner party and needed one chair. The person who answered checked the computer and confirmed. I was able to have a friend loan me his van so we could pick up the chair just in case it didn't fit in my car. When we arrived, the service desk was busy with customers so we went to the showroom and found the chair we wanted -- a nice expensive leather chair to go with the set. We go back to the desk and wait some more until they call someone from the back and he helps us. We take him to the showroom and show the chair and he realizes I had called earlier to confirm. We then go to the desk to finalize the sale, I put down my credit card and the process is a bit longer than expected (he's apparently new) but soon the sale is done and we're ready to get our chair and be on our way. One major hiccup -- the chair isn't available until 4 days later. They realize they forgot to tell us that before they ran the credit card. At that point, I decide not to lay down the money because it doesn't benefit me four days later. We then start the REFUND process minutes after the sale was final. A manager gets involved and when he understands the situation, he offers one of the floor models from the showroom. So I ask what that will run us knowing that floor models are discounted. I'm thinking half price, maybe 40% off. He tells us that it's full retail price because they have a couple hundred in inventory and need to move units. What? Full retail price for a chair every Tom, Dick and Harry (and their wives) has sat on in the showroom and I have to pay the same as a chair sitting in storage in their warehouse? So I just cancel. When he hands me the paperwork, he tells me to order in a couple days if I still want the chair in four days. Uh, no. We have a bedroom set and a dining room set from Plummers. The bedroom set is falling apart (as is the same set my friend has). The dining room set still looks great. They were also a week late years ago when I originally bought the pieces and I had to sleep on the floor. For the price, marginal quality and poor customer service, we'll go to Urban Home or somewhere else. read more
