I was able to visit this Lodge due to a friend owning a condo. I was impressed with the friendliness of the front desk staff, the size of the condo, and bathroom. The location was close enough into Sister Bay where we just walked the approximate .5mi into town to explore. They offer a pool with basketball hoop, hot tub, and a kiddie pool for the littles. If visiting the area, I recommend this place to guarantee a clean and safe place to stay in Door County! read more

It's an excellent hotel in many ways. My friend and I took our one year olds to Door County and shared the room. It was really nice that the room had two separate bedrooms, each with their own bathroom attached to the room. One room had a large tub whilst the other had a shower. The rooms were separated by the living area, which was great because it kept the kids separated enough that if one started make noise in the night the other one couldn't hear and decide to join in. When I say the bed SANK when I sat in it I am not kidding. I may be a fat woman, but their mattresses are either super soft or 20 years old. I was able to sleep in it without issue but I expect that some folks might find them uncomfortable... and I'm not sure how it would be sharing with someone else. When you enter the hotel, you enter on the second level. We were staying on the first. There were multiple exits to the patio spaces outside the room--one from the living area and one in each of the bedrooms. Each of the bedrooms has a television, as well as the living room. The little eat-in kitchen has a full sized refrigerator, dishwasher, and stove. They had provided dishwasher detergent which was helpful. The parking lot is apparently not quite large enough to always provide parking for guests, as they had a sign on the door telling you where additional parking was found. The hotel is not open 24 hours, but I believe they have instructions for after-hours check in (be sure you confirm if you're looking at staying here). There's a nice sized pool as well as a children's pool, but we didn't visit them this time. There may be a breakfast or something?... We weren't told about it when we got here but the woman checking us out said something about enjoying breakfast and we told her we didn't know there was one. So again, something you may want to ask about, though it would surprise me given the full kitchen. read more

Good place. Friendly, efficient staff. Went in autumn, so not much going on. Rooms very clean and roomy. Furniture dated but functional. TVs in every bedroom and main room. Gas fireplace. Fridge, stove, toaster, coffee maker & microwave provided. Good value for the $$ - a two bedroom suite here much cheaper than two individual rooms. Some issues: 1) Need to soundproof the hallway carpet better so you don't hear everyone walking past your room. 2) For some reason the toilets sit about 10 inches off the ground. If you have bad knees like me, you better ask for a disabled room. 3) The thermostats are just a round knob, so the first night is getting up every 2 hours turning it up or down trying to find a comfortable setting - bimetallic electric thermostats are about $12 in bulk - upgrade! March 12-18 2023 Stayed here for my daughter's spring break. We had the two bedroom unit with two baths. It was absolutely beautiful. Being off-season in Sister Bay, the resort was not at all full. It was a relaxing, peaceful stay. The ladies at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. The kitchen was fully stocked with just about anything you would need to cook with. Only thing missing was a wine opener and I packed one just in case. The pool was lovely- heated so no cold water to shock your senses. The hot tub was a tad on the hotter side- took a bit to get used to but still very relaxing. After returning to our room and showering, I sat out on the deck and just enjoyed the silence. The occasional owl hooting was all that I heard. Bliss. The beds were so comfortable and there were plenty of extra quilts and pillows if you needed them. This place was wonderful and we hated to leave. 100% will return. read more

We had a free stay in a 2 bedroom condo. It was decent considering it was free. The room was clean, although the room and building is all very outdated. If you're sensitive to smell the building smells like chlorine from the pool so keep that in mind. There is a fitness center although we didn't use it. The ping pong table is odd in the fact that it's in the pool area... Wish the pool area had longer hours. Easy check in process. Elevator access to the rooms. This also has an old school key entry so keep that in mind. read more

Every year Team Nelson takes our summer vacay to Door County. We've stayed at several different places, so we have a good idea what most places in the area have to offer. This year, we tried The Scandinavian Lodge in Sister Bay. It was an overall great experience, but I also believe there is a bit of room for improvement that would really lure us back. We have three kids (5, 2, 7mos), so our life is a handful. Anytime we travel for more than a weekend, we require: two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a fully operational kitchen, laundry, and decent Wifi. This particular hotel met all of our requirements. We chose a two-bedroom suite, but three bedroom option were also available. We may go that route in a few years when our kids are a bit older and we don't need to keep constant watch over them to prevent death. The bedrooms were both decently sized and the master had a really nice bathroom with Jacuzzi tub. The living area was large enough to watch a movie when it rained or before bed. The kitchen is a must for us for travel with three kids. Wait times in Door County eateries, especially in the busy season, can be upwards of an hour. Expecting our offspring to wait is asking for a meltdown. Plus, our children are notorious for not eating basically anything we order them. They love grilled cheese, pizza, burgers, etc...but they all of a sudden hate anything we pay more than $2 to feed them. Whenever we take them out for meals, we are basically mentally prepared to either eat a kids meal ourselves or just light money on fire immediately. That's where the kitchen comes in handy. We bring 3 suitcases and an entire grocery run full of food to make it through the week. It saves money, time, and the need to carry our screaming kids out of public places surf-board style. The second bathroom is really helpful for these touch and go potty training years when kids wait until the last possible second to use the bathroom. There's no accidents due to one person occupying the only restroom. Plus, it helps us to double operation "Get ready to go", which is often an all hands on deck situation if we want to do anything before 10am. Laundry seems like a trivial need, but the last thing I want to do is go home with a suitcase filled with crap-covered onsies. We are usually hitting the beach, touring petting farms, and running around like wild animals, so we can't bring enough clothes to get through the week. The SC offered coin operated machines on site. We did a few loads on rainy afternoons and at nap time and we went home with suitcases full of clean clothes. It cost a couple of bucks, but well-worth it in my opinion. Having decent internet access away from home is GREAT! It helps us plan for weather, locate businesses, and read reviews before adventuring out. Cell service in DC is not awesome and 3G is basically the Cadillac speed in small town USA The Lodge actually upgraded their internet during our stay. It was out for one afternoon, but we were pleasantly surprised by the improvement in the later part of our stay! We also got to enjoy peaceful breakfasts thanks to our ability to stream Ghost Busters sans buffering. A few awesome bonuses were than average fitness room, game area, kid friendly pool, and a maid/towel service! The biggest downside was the kitchen equipment. Most of it was old, torn up, and in need of replacement. We got by with it, but would have appreciated a bit more to work with. The AC situation was also kind of grim. The units were loud and resulted in a room that was either too hot and muggy or an icebox. We didn't spend much time in our room, so it was not hard to overlook. We will likely return to The Scandinavian Lodge in the future, but would definitely encourage them to make a few upgrades to win over our reservations. read more

Scandinavia Lodge is just far away from the hubbub of Sister Bay to be quiet and restful, but close enough to take part in the vibrance of the downtown area. It is also a short drive to other Door County villages and attractions. The property is well kept, clean and welcoming. Great for families with indoor and outdoor swimming pools. I liked this place. The rooms were huge with a fireplace and two person jetted tub. Nice if you are here with someone special. Beautiful pool and hot tub indoors and a pool outdoors for the summer. Very close to town but probably not a good walk as you would bed to walk on the road. They do offer a shuttle which is convenient especially if you are having a drink or several. Great big place! Large rooms, lots of amenities, nice lounge, close enough to Sister Bay to walk to town and shops, plenty of swimming, tennis, and outdoor play area for the kids. The prices are competitive, and the staff I encountered was pleasant. My room was huge! It had a big Jacuzzi tub, a kitchen, living room with a fireplace, and pretty much put my small condo in Chicagoland to shame. That said, I highly recommend locating the extra parking and the entry to the main lot before it gets dark outside, if possible. Finding the lodge and the extra parking in the dark was a bit challenging, as I had not been to this location before. I figured it out, but wanted to pass on that piece of advice! Oh, and there is an arcade game room on the lower level with a few classics, as well as a nice fitness room for those who need to get in a run. read more

So it would seem this place needs an updated review as it would appear there are only a limited amount of Yelpers around. This is my first visit to the area which is the result of some recommendations by friends. Among the suggestions was a place to stay. So...these are a series of condos that are fairly spacious in size. I came with friends and we shared a two bedroom two bath room on the second floor. It's comes with a full kitchen including an oven and dishwater. There is a small dining room table that can be expanded (find the extra leaves in the closet). Settings are for eight along with all the implements one might need including a wine opener, knives, spatulas and a can opener. There was even dish soap. The room themselves are filled with drab furniture including a recliner but they are clean and functional so hard to argue. One small flat screen in the main dining area with small tv's from the 1990's in each bedroom (VCR embedded players-really?). There is no central air rather, noisy in wall AC units in the various rooms. (good for covering up sounds) As for the rooms, plenty of closet place in the form of dressers and cabinets on each side of the bed. The bed themselves are okay. Not firm but not completely saggy. I managed to unlock my back after 30 minutes. One large jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom and one tight shower in the other (small children and small people are the likely best candidates) The rooms have musty funky odor which was annoying but since you are gone most of the day, what can you do? The grounds themselves are well kept. There is an indoor and outdoor pool along with a kid's playground and a tennis court (apparently you need to reserve in advance). There is also a ping pong table, old video games and a large lawn on which to toss a football or frisbee. All of these items you can get at the front desk. There is a weight room with old equipment and only one treadmill. Access is limited (7 am to 10 pm). There is free wifi so a major plus although it does not always work and can be rather slow but again it's free. I brought my Ipad and was able to hang out and watch a movie. The location is centralized - 20-40 minutes from the various parks and beaches. It's also 5 minutes from "bustling" downtown and the "ocean" (I'm can't help calling it that. I'm from Wales so sue me) So overall what can I say? It's a okay place. Not up to date and far from perfect but I'm not sure what the motivation would be to modernize the location. You have what you need and visitors are going to stay here regardless of my "genius insights" read more

For $115, our "1-bedroom condo" was pretty great. Summer rates are around $375 for the exact same room, so we felt like we were getting a deal. It's true, the "view" was of other rooms across the snowy backyard, but having access to outside for smoke breaks buttered me up. I loved the whirlpool tub, weirdly right next to the soft & comfy king-size bed, but wish they would have provided a little bottle of bubble bath. I poured a capful of shampoo in & it kind of worked. The staff was fine, didn't go in the pool as it was overrun by a dozen or more splashy kids. Would have liked more than one junky vending machine, as there was no restaurant or snacky place nearby. Next time I'll bring some breakfast food for the morning, the kitchette is outfitted fairly well. It took us forever to find a garbage can, though? I cleaned up over a dozen in one day, so went to the front desk and Mary seemed irritated with my concern and only asked me what my room number was - while the space is large, everything is very dated and not kept clean - customer service all around was not good. My husband and I have been coming to Door County for 9 years (multiple times a year) and have never stayed anywhere but the Lodge. It is centrally located on the peninsula basically right where Hwy 57 and Hwy 42 meet, however, it is located on 57 which is the quieter of the two main drags. It is close enough to walk to downtown Sister Bay and an easy drive to any of the other small towns. The amenities at the hotel are great. Each room has a jetted tub, fireplace and kitchen. Although, note that in the "studio" rooms it is not a full kitchen but rather a kitchenette with a microwave, sink and mini fridge/freezer. The one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom suites all have a full kitchen. Both the indoor and outdoor pool are great! There is a sauna as well as a kids area with a shallow pool. There is also a small game room and outdoor playground. The front desk has current movies and games you can rent for your room. Some people have complained about there not being enough parking, however, I have never not been able to find a spot in their main lot even during the high season. The rooms are clean and quaint - definitely not modern looking but I don't think there are any hotels in Door County that fit into the "modern" category. All in all I have no complaints about the Scandinavian Lodge and have recommended it to many family members and friends that are planning trips to Door County. read more

I love this place so much. Every time I go to Door County I always make sure to stay here. I love everything about the Scandinavian Lodge. The rooms are spacious with great layouts. I have stayed in the romantic suite, one bedroom, and two bedroom condo. The fire places are so cozy and the decor is calm and relaxing. I honestly have just as much fun hanging at the hotel as I do venturing around Door County. The hotel has an indoor and an outdoor pool, a sauna, a hot tub...the list goes on. The decks/patios are spacious-I love waking up and having a cup of coffee outside-weather permitting of course. Great hotel for families as well as if you want to just get away with your significant other. The Scandinavian Lodge has a special place in my heart and I can't wait to keep up the tradition of staying here when I go to Door County. read more

Stayed here during the off-season (Feb. 2008) on the recommendation of friends. Honestly, we were very underwhelmed. The amenities sounded great - in-room fireplace/jacuzzi/small kitchenette, indoor pool, exercise room, and other typical hotel offerings. Plus, the place looks huge and fairly isolated on the website. Ah, and there's the rub. The lodge is right on one of the 2 main roads in and out of Sister Bay and is surrounded (quite closely) by homes. Our room (a "Romantic Suite") overlooked a playground, tennis courts, parking lot, and just a tiny strip of undeveloped grass (or snow, since it was mid-February). The heat was impossible to regulate easily - leaving our room either burning hot or ice cold most of the time we were there. The jacuzzi wasn't cleaned very well, so there were dirty spots just below the control knobs (not a big deal, we cleaned them and it was fine, just annoying). The fireplace was ok but it was just a gas one which kind of left the impression of sitting in front of an open gas oven - would have been nice to have some real logs in there! The kitchenette was a nice touch - doesn't it suck to go on vacation and not have any way to heat up leftovers (and keep them cold) or fix yourself a snack (or drink)? That won't happen here. The pool was nice but had a funky smell because it was treated with Bromine rather than Chlorine. It was great that the pool wasn't ice cold the the hot tub boiling hot - each had a very nice temperature. The staff wasn't that great. Whenever we enquired about something at the front desk or were checking in/out, we felt like we were intruding on them. Also, there isn't ANY staff member present between 10pm-7am. The lodge's location (geographically) is actually not bad - it's right outside downtown Sister Bay and only about 45 mins. away from any point between Sturgeon Bay and Gills Rock. We may go back and give it another try but certainly not during the high season. read more

Overall, we had a lovely time. There were two pools (indoor/outdoor), a sauna, a whirlpool and fireplace in every room, and very friendly and accommodating front desk staff. There was a fireplace, but it was covered by glass so I did not get to toast marshmallows. Some things could use a bit of updating. Fixtures on hot tub are yellowing. House keeping did the minimum. My first visit to the area and stayed here. Great location for access to parks, off one of the 2 roads in that area. The room we had was large with a great common area and a balcony. The pool and hottub were clean as was all the common areas. Not much within walking distance, and the price was high like most things in the area all though I found Scandinavian was less outrageous than others. read more

This hotel was very nice. It had everything you would ever ask for in a hotel: a nice indoor pool with two hot tubs, an outdoor pool, exercise facility, game room and even a guest laundry room. It is located in Sister Bay close to a lot of great shops. The rooms were a little dated but the one we stayed in had a fireplace and spa tub which I loved. Each room also has a balcony or patio which is great. The hotel is really reasonably priced considering the prices in Door County for hotels are very expensive. I would recommend this hotel. I was wondering how Bilal F. booked a 1 night stay. We had to book a 3 night minimum for the same weekend. My family has always had a home in Door County so it was difficult to find a place to stay this time that would have the same qualities. First of all, we were very happy with the lodge. It was clean and had plenty of room for the 4 of us in the 2 bedroom. Seeker O. sums up the lodge very well. But it was pricey for the time of year and a dated room. You could get a room in Las Vegas and feel like a King for $275 a night. We had a late arrival and everything went according to plan. Kind of weird that they leave your keys in an envelope at the front door with your name on it. I guess security isn't an issue and I'm not sure if anyone is even around after hours. But it IS Door County.:) We chose not to get room service but they left a basket with clean towels and new soap and coffee at the door. read more

This was my first time going up to Sister Bay and we stumbled upon Scandinavian Lodge. To tell you the truth, the place on the website did not look great but we had to book a 1 night stay because everywhere else was full. When I arrived the place looked magnificent! Nothing like the pictures at all. The place was huge, the kitchen was spacious and the 2 bedrooms were well kept. Maybe the paintings and the choice of fabrics can be more modern but that's just me. I could see the fall colors in the trees and the place outside was beautiful. Restaurants and shops were very close (10 mins to downtown Sister Bay). The Jacuzzi and bathrooms were clean and we had an abundance of towels to our disposal AND the best part was that I forgot my tumbler (got it from my fiance`) and they were kind enough to mail it out to me free of charge and in amazing packaging in 2 days!! They even took their time out to box it up and clean the bottle from inside as well (had coffee in it). I would definitely stay there again next year, plus got a $50 discount for next year! read more
