Great location, with wonderful amenities. Friendly staff and check-in was a breeze. There is a shuttle available after 5PM that takes you downtown so you can avoid the headache of finding parking. This was a great location you can walk to town if your an adventurer. Staff was super friendly. The check in was easy. We got a room that was up one level from the lobby but it was great the parking was on that level also. So our room was a great set up we had a balcony that was nice to sit on and relax. A small kitchenette, bathroom, couch, table, a good size bed and a whirlpool tub. That was very relaxing after the long days of hiking and walking. They had an indoor and outdoor pool, tennis courts, grills if you want to cook and it was very easy getting to my room. It was not peek time so they were not super busy yet. And that was perfect for us. They also were participating in garage sale weekend that we did not even know was around town. That was fun also read more

Stayed for 6 days in July in a Village Home. Could see the Sister Bay fireworks from the home's patio. Swimming pools were never crowded (indoors and out). Both pools were clean. Location is the best. Three minute walk to Piggly Wiggly, there's a great bakery/coffee spot 2 minutes away (Zero Sum) and a short 10 min walk to Husbys and Sister Bay Bowl. Staff at lodge is friendly and very helpful Already booked to return in August. read more

This place is amazing. If you are looking for a get away place tha you can relax with a quiet neighborhood this is your place . They do take good care of the place. I wish they can clean the room after using the bath tub. I wanted to have a bath again. But when we came back it wasn't clean. I was looking for an iron it wasn't available inside the room, however the ambiance was great. Just sitting by the patio with my drink I was content. Quite moment. Service is excellent. We were excited to read some of the great reviews for the Birchwood Lodge. We have never stayed here before and were happy to find a reasonable place so close to downtown Sister Bay. It ended up being not as easy/close as the map looked when we got here, it's at the top of the hill at the end of town. But still it was very close.  Check in was a breeze and the front desk was very warm and friendly. The first thing we noticed was it was very quiet and very clean. Our room had a bit of a strange layout but was clean, comfortable and large, it also had a hot tub. It really was a wonderful place to stay, we had no issues and there was always plenty of parking. It seems very well kept and updated. We would not hesitate to stay here again in the future. read more

The PERFECT location to walk to downtown restaurants & activities. Walking distance to many other shops in the area, too. Facility well-maintained inside and out! I've read several reviews about how wonderful this place is, but my wife and I beg to differ. Yes the staff was great and I commend them. Why you ask? It's not easy to put lipstick on a pig is why. The staff does the best they can to keep the rooms clean but thats all they can do. What they can't do is remove the multiple stains on the carpeting, replace the window treatments that where damaged and looked ghetto, insure the room fridge could actually keep items cold, make a completely worn out mattress comfortable nor the pillows that at best rivaled a pair of shocks acting as pillows. I suspect the problem is NOT the staff or management but the ownership element not wanting to invest in updates. It really is a shame as the building is nice and in a great location. We where there to celebrate our 54th wedding anniversary and left feeling very disappointed. We are not the type to bad mouth businesses but in this case think it justified 100%. If asked we will not hold back letting those asking know exactly what our experience was like. read more

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we have no regrets whatsoever! The room was very clean, and the staff were super nice and helpful. Our room was always taken care of while we were gone. The only two things were the door seemed to be off it's position as it was really difficult to close and lock. And one of the lights in the bathroom flickered often, but beyond these it was a wonderful stay. We'll be making this our regular place of stay when we visit Sister Bay! read more

We stayed for the weekend of the Door County 1/2 Marathon. The stay was pretty much perfect. They had a special package for runners and the hotel was one of the places that offered an 8am shuttle to the race. They really embraced the runners and had fun goofy quotes about running throughout the hotel. The staff was wonderful. We got in late on Friday and I was given good instructions when I called to let them know on how to get into our room since the front desk would be closed. That same woman remembered my name throughout our stay and all front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for staying in Sister Bay. You can walk to most of the downtown area (5-10min depending on where you're headed). We enjoyed the facilities and I think it'd be a great place to stay if you had a group/family vacationing together. They have several common areas and even some small conference rooms that can be rented out. The pool area was clean and a nice size as well. I enjoyed our Premier suite, but I think we'd get a suite with a separate bedroom next time as the TV is situated to be seen from both the living area and the bed. (I like to go to bed early, but my hubby likes to stay up watching TV). We enjoyed having the kitchenette and the hot tub in the room was the perfect post run relaxation! My only suggestion is maybe a few more/different options for the continental breakfast. I wish they'd have had a few healthier options and some juice. I can't wait to plan our next trip. Have stayed at Birchwood quite a few times, a few in the actual lodge and more often in one of their village homes (condos). The village homes are very nicely decorated and spacious, very quiet and you really do feel you are at home as they come fully stocked with everything in the kitchen if you want to eat meals at "home" and comfortable furnishings. The only thing I would ask for are better pillows. The location in Sister Bay can't be beat, close enough to walk into the village but far enough away to avoid the hustle and bustle of the crowds, and it's right at the intersection of Highway 57 and 42. Good amenities, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis court, small play area for young kids, game room. if you are close enough to drive to Door County I would advise you to take your own towels for the pools as the towels provided are the smallest and hardest I have ever seen. Long overdue to be replaced. They still are not providing daily service, due to COVID and they also used to provide a small selection of continental breakfast items, but these too have been stopped due to COVID. if you have guests using other amenities, games, fitness area, common areas, then why is COVID not an issue in these instances? Overall, we really enjoy Birchwood but for the price charged for their Village Homes I think they need to do a few upgrades of their service. We paid over $400 a night for a 6 night stay, which can get you a really nice room in a resort in other locations, with amenities to match. read more

Only good things to say. The rates are good, the staff is nice and the rooms are great. We had a room with a 2 person jacuzzi, kitchenette, fireplace and a SUPER comfortable king size bed for just a few bucks more than most chain hotels. We didn't even take advantage of many of the amenities they offer, like the pool, tennis courts outdoor BBQs, bikes, etc. Very pleased. We will be back. read more

I've been coming to this town for years but it was my first time to stay here & I used to have a favorite place to stay. This might be the new one. I do travel with my husband & 3 sons so we stayed in a village home. Kind of a condo or an apartment. Super happy with it. Amenities are well covered. I went in September this time so the indoor pool (there's also an outdoor one) & the hot tub were totally my friends. . Cleaning service did well. Close to walk to downtown but it is on the hill. So work them butt muscles! I'll definitely stay here again! They had way more amenities than I made use of. Go check it out! read more

Very nice place! We did our homework on where to stay prior but still, upon arriving we were impressed at first glance. Place is very nice and stands out. Upon entering the room, we were completely satisfied. Staff was very gracious and polite, service was good, room was very well tended to and all was in proper order. This is a very nice Lodge to stay at and close to all that Sister Bay has to offer. We enjoyed the ammenties very much! Our family (two daughters (9, 4), my wife and I stayed in this lodge and we're super happy with our experience. It was our first time to go to the Door County and we did not know where to stay. We wanted a cosy, family friendly and convenient spot. And, Birchwood Hotel has it all. Because we are on a healthy life style, we always carry our own Instant Pot with us. A little kitchenette in the Birchwood Lodge allowed us to make breakfast in the mornings. Plus, they have an indoor and outdoor pool where our daughters had a blast. The lodge is located in a super convenient place to other destinations (e.g., Cave point; a fishing boil; golf; bike tour options, etc). Within a 1-minute walking distance, you see a street that has shops and restaurants (e.g., where goats graze on top of a restaurant). BTW: It is a clean and quite hotel too. Just returned from 2 week assignment visiting Door County, Wisconsin. We book the Birchwood Lodge in Sister Bay for two nights. Our expectations were higher for this place for the amount they charged for a deluxe King Suite. First impression walking in was why do they still have Christmas decorations on the main stairwell at the end of July. Since we had never stayed there before, we were given a room on the first floor. This establishment sits on a hill overlooking the Green Bay. However, you don't get that view from the first floor rooms. After checking into the room, we were stunned by the layout of the room. It was a very disjointed room, that for us was a bit unsettling. The bed was to the right when you walked into the room, and straight ahead was a bar sink with microwave and a plaid sleeper sofa. The LCD television was up near the ceiling in the corner and it was unwatchable at that height. The most disturbing and out of place thing in the room was a two person bathtub right under the television. What the hell was that for? It took up much needed space, as did the unnecessary wall between the bedroom & "living" area. The whole 1st floor smelled mildewy and hit us in the face every time we walked through the hall. Continental breakfast served from 7-9:30 was unappetizing as was their sign warning us that the fruit was unwashed. Don't bother with it, there are other wonderful breakfast places around the corner on the main drag of Sister Bay. We're not going to recommend this "Lodge" as a good place to stay. They only seemed to cater to guests that have stayed with them before. We do however, implore the owners to consider a mindful remodel and to ditch the musty carpet on the first floor. read more
