We walked to Goose & Twigs for coffee this morning and grabbed a bite to eat as well. It's a short walk from Pheasant Park. The service was timely and helpful, and the shop has a nice vibe. We had the cherry vanilla latte, Mayan mocha, and breakfast sandwich. Everything hit the spot and we would definitely recommend this coffee shop when in Sister Bay! read more

BIG NO!! Not only did we find 3 COCKROACHES in our room (we were able to kill one), but the owner Gustavo SHOUTED at my 8 year old son and elderly father who has Alzheimer's. Around 9:45am, just before leaving. My father needed to use the restroom, now this isn't a fast process given my father is elderly and sick. At the same time my 8 year old son was about to wee his pants. Hesitantly, but with no other options, I walked outside with my son so he could run in the trees and wee. My son is in the trees and a man starts speed walking across the parking lot SHOUTING at a little boy he doesn't know "HEY! HEY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? ARE YOU PEEING!? HOW DARE YOU!". I told my boys to go inside (we had not met the owner and thought this was an angry stranger). He saw me on the balcony and continued walking past us. Keep in mind, dogs are allowed here, and allowed to wee here. Within minutes, we hear BANGING on our door. My father opened the door and it's the same man (Gustavo). Throwing his hands around and SHOUTING at an elderly man "I CAN NOT BELIEVE WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE DONE TO ME! IT'S UNBELIEVABLE! I WANT YOU OUT OF MY PLACE! 10AM YOU ARE OUT!! GET OUT OF MY PLACE! YOU ARE UNBELIEVABLE FOR DOING THIS TO ME!" It's 9:50am at this point, we were about to leave, my dad is confused, but Gustavo found it necessary to frighten my children and have someone wait at our room until we left. I got a lox bagel and a latte and my boyfriend got a breakfast sandwich and a latte. We split the French toast. It was all really good. We found a lot of other places in Sister Bay to be overly fried, covered in sugar, etc. This place had great food. My one star deduction is just because the service is really slow and a little chaotic. It seems to the the spot for high school kids to get a summer job which is great. I just wouldn't recommend if you are in a rush. read more

Best Bloody Mary in Door County! With the caveat that this is the one place in Door County I've tried Bloody Mary. Really though, look at the photo, this is a mail in itself, it has cute little pancakes, a generous helping to two thick caramelized bacon strips, cheese and olives. I noticed there was no chaser, that's because this place is so new they are still working on getting their license to serve and sell beer. And you might have guessed it, this Bloody Mary has wine in it! The most locale specific appropriate. I tried the breakfast taco, it was full of flavor! I was full from the Bloody Mary, so I left with some leftovers. This place was wide open and full of available seating when we got there in a Sunday morning. Try out its place before it gets crowded! They sell local jams, syrup, and other Door County homemade specialties. The waitress(she might have been the owner) is friendly and open to ideas. Cute place with nice decor! A must stop if you're hungry! Oh and one more thing, they have a projector set up so you won't have to miss a big football/baseball game while you're dining! read more

This is the best breakfast in Sister Bay that you've probably never had! We went to Al Johnson's to find an hour wait. This quaint little spot around the corner has just 8 tables but we gave it a shot and I'm sure glad we did! The service was excellent and the food was amazing! I had the sunrise melt and my parents had the omelette. They both said they were the best omelette's they'd ever had - and they're in their 70's. Highly recommend!! read more

After ordering a large array of items and drinks from the menu, including their French Toast, Amanecer Melt, Avocado toast, and and their Wild Goose Sandwich, the food and drinks went above and beyond expectations! Just ask them what an iced latte is... I'll save you the time. They use cold brew instead of espresso. The owner's husband was sitting at a table arguing with my wife who has been a barista for 14 1/2 years about how espresso and cold brew essentially produce the same result. In Dwight Schrute fashion I'm gonna call this one "FALSE"... FACT: Cold brew is a process in which coffee beans are steeped in cold water for around 20 hours, while espresso is hot water forced through finely ground espresso roast coffee beans, and has distinct a distinct foam called crema that is best served quickly as the quality starts diminishing right after the shots are pulled. I gave 3 stars because the owner was nice enough to ask about the drink and remade it for us, and it turned out better. read more

Tried the newest lunch spot in Sister Bay today! The place is really cute on the outside. Behind the dining area, is the counter where you can either place your order or the waitress will come to the table. We chose to sit out front (lovely!) and have full-service. We were the only people there when we arrived and the service was prompt and friendly. The menu had mostly sandwiches (all sounded really great, but I am avoiding starches at the moment, so was looking for more salad options). There was one salad listed on the menu. I decided to order that and asked for a scoop of the sous-vide chicken salad on top. Not long after, the salads arrived and were gorgeously plated! A small basket of sliced baguette with a little scoop of unsalted butter topped with course sea salt and fresh chopped herbs accompanied the salads. The silverware came wrapped in black paper napkins. When we unwrapped, it was a delightful surprise to find they were brass. Gorgeous! Love this trend! The salads were so delicious. The chicken salad scoop on top was incredible. Sous-vide chicken breast with dill and finely chopped celery. This was the best chicken salad I have ever eaten. So yum. The greens were fresh baby spring greens, spinach and arugula, topped with a few candied walnuts, some goat cheese and pickled red onions. It all worked so well. This really should be a featured salad! The owner came out several times to check on us and ask how we were doing. He's a pleasant man. I saw a few couples and some groups of four walk in and then leave soon after. Not sure if they were checking out the marketplace or didn't find what they were hoping for on the menu. Some suggestions for growth for the new business: I looked for the menu on the website, but it's not there. They're really new, still, but I would expect the website to have the menu and not stock photos like it does (New York City? Strange.) You walk in to the main dining area which had a handful of tables and was playing a Disney movie projecting on the wall; this was also strange to me. Maybe consider getting rid of the movie and even the TV. Conversation with another person on vacation and even as a local is so wonderful! More salad options! What a nice addition to Sister Bay Lodging! Brand spankin' new in 2019 - nice people (Goose is the owner - "Twigs" are his kids) coffee shop with interesting and unique (quite good) food for breakfast and lunch. Only five boutique hotel units with four more being built. No downside to the cafe up front - except that they don't open until 8am. We've introduced it to friends and locals and they love it. Hotel side needs a few tweeks - but understandable for a new place working out bugs. One that won't be fixed probably is the sound-proofing between rooms. Although it is requested to be courteous with noise after 10p, that's wishful thinking in a resort town. No ice machine access except in the cafe which has varying hours. Doors are very hard to close... So you are often awakened by someone trying to slam their door shut so the beeping will stop (OpenKey app). That should be fixable. Check their menu - great place to eat even if you aren't stayng there. Oh, and rooms require stair climbing for the most part - so if you have bad knees... be warned. read more

Warning: this is a long post. My husband and I decided to make a weekend getaway in Sister Bay. We stayed the first week in November, which is when this little town starts to wind down. We arrived at Goose and Twigs and immediately felt at home. We had received a request to download an app that acted as our room key (first time I had ever used this, and it was seamless). The owners greeted us as we arrived. There were hand sanitizers at all of the stair bases, and the room was very clean. It has all of the necessities, including a small fridge and microwave. Gustavo (the owner) was able to quickly provide us with wine glasses and a wine opener. This is where the hospitality goes over the top: on our way home, we received a text from Gustavo indicating we had forgotten our pillows (my husband always has to travel with his own, but the ones in the room were very comfortable). We were already 3 hours away, and he offered to mail them. Maybe 10 days later, I realized I lost my wedding ring (I know, we have to be the most forgetful couple EVER). When reaching out to Gustavo for a letter to satisfy our insurance company, and a few hours later, he responded. HE FOUND MY RING! Long story short, my ring happened to be in a ziploc because I had broken it and was taking it to get repaired. My husband accidentally threw it away while we were staying at Goose & Twigs. Gustavo actually RUMMAGED THROUGH THE GARBAGE with no hopes of finding it...but he did. He sent me pictures of the ring, and it was nothing short of a miracle. We decided to drive up the following weekend and stay another night. After checking in, we found our pillows neatly laid on the bed and my ring sitting on the nightstand (with a bonus Goose & Twigs sticker!). Words cannot express how grateful I am for Gustavo and what he did for us. STAY HERE. Not only will you have a great, affordable room with an amazing location, but you will have owners that truly care about the people. read more

This past weekend was our 3rd time staying here. It's awesome. The beds are so comfy (LOVE that they have Kings), the shower is spacious and nice, and the rooms are very cute and clean. The staff is super friendly. Try their breakfast and coffee during the Summer hours. We had a phenomenal breakfast of different meat tacos. They were AMAZING. You can't beat the location. It's a half block right off the main road in Sister Bay. We won't stay anyplace else anymore. read more

Very good and very well priced. We thought it was going to be more of a restaurant when we walked in but it's more of a coffee shop with breakfast items. You order everything at the counter and pay right away. Food was delicious though and we were the only people there (arrived around noon on a Saturday). We originally were going to go to Al's Swedish Restaurant but the wait was over 2 hours. It seems like there is no wait here just because it is off the main drag of sister bay. My husband ordered a pretzel bun egg sandwich that had more flavor but was really small and $9. We stayed here on a Monday-Wednesday and loved how new, clean and contemporary the room was! The location was perfect, it was just off the main drag in downtown Sister Bay near all the shops and restaurants. It was quiet and the temperature control was great! The only downside was there is no coffee in the rooms, which is fine on most days because it has free coffee at the coffee shop but it's closed on Tuesdays, so you're out of luck on quick am coffee. The rooms could use a little bit more lightening, but that's not a deal breaker for me! It's has a fire pit and each unit has a covered porch to sit outside whenever! Keyless entry, charging station for one vehicle and nestled on a quiet street. We'll be back! read more

We booked a two night stay at Goose and Twigs lodging for a peak fall weekend in October. We were so incredibly lucky to find this place! Everything about our stay was perfect, from the updated, beautiful, clean rooms, to the hospitality provided by the staff and the owner himself, to the convenient location which allowed us to walk to lunch/dinner and other activities in Sister Bay. Goose and Twigs is also incredibly eco friendly from the products that they use to the way the lodge/café was built. Check in was virtual, however the owner made sure to greet us and ask us if we needed anything. We had breakfast both mornings at the café and it was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever had! We also had some drinks in the evening on the outdoor patio. They offer wine, beer and some very uniquely crafted cocktails. Can not say enough good things about our stay here--we will most definitely be staying here again in the future! read more

We happened to walk in on one of their soft opening days... This place is so cute. We tried quite a few of their sandwiches and their tomato bisque soup and everything was delicious. They even have a gluten free bagel and bread option, which delighted my husband because he has Celiac. I wish their smoothies were fresh fruit, but the kids still loved them. My FAVORITE thing was the Chicken Salad Croissant. It was delicious. The owner is so nice and turned on cartoons for our kids. Extremely clean room, nice new property and great location. Easy to walk to everything. They have breakfast and coffee/tea. Homemade mimosas and blood Mary's. This place was awesome! Their coffee and hospitality is fantastic! There is something for everyone as their drink menu is expansive; even coffee free Frappes for kids! As seasonal residents and visitors for over 40 years this is the best discovery we've made for a quaint, well-priced, friendly, very good coffee and meal spot.
