Kids under 48" still need their own wristband ($23.45-$26.45), and adults accompanying them need a companion wristband for the same price. The companion wristband only covers rides when you're riding with the child, so I thought that was a little steep, especially if both parents want to take turns. Still, seeing how much fun my toddler had made it worth it. Also, the carousel is free to ride! We also enjoyed the arcade. It didn't feel ridiculously hard to win prizes like some places. And our lunch and desserts were good, with pretty typical amusement park pricing. There are also plenty of bigger rides for thrill seekers. Overall, we had a great family day and I was pleasantly surprised by Oaks Park.

There were lights throughout the zoo like light covered tunnels, interactive displays, and plenty of picture perfect spots. There were different food and drink options for this limited time evening event like churros and s'mores. Don't expect to see many animals at night. I only saw one elephant. There may have been a few others, but we really wanted to see the lights. There were awesome lights versions of the animals as you walk by or take the train. The volunteers were very nice, and they were at different areas ready to help. They offered to take our photo so I didn't have to rely on selfie mode or interrupt another family to take our photo. It was a wonderful holiday event that may become an annual tradition for us. We're Oregon Zoo members so we got the 20% discount off the entrance and train ride. It was the perfect way to kick off the holiday season.

Also, they are ADA friendly for their seats but please note that the entrance might be a challenge. I try to lead with the positives... There is parking within blocks but if you are ADA, you will likely need to have your person.Drop you because they are gonna need to walk a bit. Since i'm the driver, it's a journey. I got there closer to show time, then I would have liked due to traffic and parking. There's a fairly large number of businesses right there - venues.... I had to try numerous times to get into the entrance , which is really hard when you're balancing on a cane, but the door was locked. As I was walking up and holding my phone, a guy walked up in front of me to buy a ticket with cash while going on and on and on about how he wanted to support the arts. The one person working the counter was doing a really awkward long form explanation about how to see a play... Finally he walks back to me, asking if he can help... I show him the ticket TWICE and then he asks what the name is on the ticket. Then goes back to asking to see the ticket, back and forth. I can hear them starting and I still have to walk all the way around to the curtain to go in. He then looks at the cane and suggests that he come hold the curtain so that I can walk in. Like I don't know what you gotta do... I have just spent a ridiculous time in the lobby for 0 reasons. They have concessions... it seemed like a selection of wine and snacks... My friend who purchased the tickets for us told me an insane tale. Normally I am the one who buys the tickets for us - we're both Arts for All. She said that oddly, she had a bit of back and forth with somebody who worked at the theater 2 days before the show saying that they didn't know if they were going to have a show because not enough people had bought tickets. She said the person told her that they might do a live stream instead. I was like wait what? It was weird. Watching a live stream and a live performance are two completely different things... so she had to call the day of to make sure that the production was still happening. My point is seeing a show here was really lovely... but also there's a bit of chaos so prepare for that. When we were leaving, we walked past one of the actresses who was in full blown relationship/dating drama with some dude (seriously gurl, you seem super awesome... dump him).

Here's what I learned: Portland used to be the biggest in the PNW. When Seattle started gaining on us, we hosted a world's trade fair to show them up (1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition). Queue the roses: after a fancy lady in our town (Georgiana Pittock), got back from vacation in England where she saw pretty flowers, she hosted a rose competition that turned into a party followed by a city parade where blooms covered horses, floats, wagons, surreys, floats, and a whopping four automobiles. Portland Rose Society starts popping (now the oldest and largest rose society in the country). To prep for the Expo, a bunch of rose nerds sprinkled their seeds all over the city and then some dude proposed an annual festival of roses + carnival to keep up the momentum from hosting the '05 Expo and "brand us the summer capital of the world". Bam! Portland Rose Festival, established in 1907. The non-profit foundation was formed to fund future extravaganzas. I heard The Grand Floral Parade is currently the second largest all-floral parade in the country, and with 500K spectators - it's the largest single-day spectator event in Oregon. I'm told the children's parade is the biggest in the world. If you see people all decked out in white suits with straw hats (the big wigs wear capes), that's our Royal Rosarians: official greeters + ambassadors of the city. They created a scholarship for a royal court made up of high school princess from each school in the metro. The queen is titled Queen of Rosaria during the festival. I was curious why there were so many people dressed in costumes and learned that the Starlight 5K kicks off the Starlight Parade and costumes are the thing. I loved the night parade (super fun) which started as an illuminated parade when electricity was pretty fresh in 1907. I hope learning about its roots helps you appreciate all of the festivities like it helped me. It's not just a carnival (which was OK I guess), it's a way for our community to participate in celebrating ourselves together. ~The more you know~

Everyone is friendly, and the staff are helpful and approachable. My mom who was so reluctant to going to this event, having thought that it was only for young people, had amazing time there and still talks about the event. There are lots of popular guests, as well as many up and coming comic artists and sellers, which makes exploring the con really fun. Food options inside are limited and lines were long, but there are plenty of nearby places to eat outside the venue.

FYI - the supposed ADA entrance is on the far corner of the building away from the elevators (it opens to the top floor). Guest services is on street level (middle floor) which is where you have to pick up Motorized carts and wheelchairs. I hope, for your sake, you do not feel the challenges of us with chronic pain or tissue issues that the barometer increase. Things do not bend right, swell and just ache when I am stationary so I try to plan everything ahead of time. I also dread large buildings since just walking in to get to the motorized cart is a lot. I do not have a team of people who can lift a wheelchair in and out of my car or the money for all the foldable things since as our bodies break down, our wallet also does. My ADA ass and cane had to walk UP the hill to the middle entrance and beg a worker to walk me in past the crowd (to not walked the back and forth gauntlet just to get to the door). I then had to walk all the way the length of the building and around a bend to get to the small elevator to go down and then walk around and back to get to guest services to claim my wheelchair. I nearly collapsed at the counter and I do have to say that the folks throughout who were working and at guest services - they are and were amazing. Flat out a lot of the people who work at the center said that a lot of their coworkers were complaining because the con had made it very challenging for them with their ADA needs. I only got the pass a week before so I missed reserving a motorized cart but those sweet guest service people got me in on a cancellation for days 2 and 3. It is too bad the damage was done. I had to leave early and I was in horrific pain for days from all the stress. Genuinely just knowing that to get to that motorized cart would be that long painful journey.... I guess I will just have to look at photos.

I truly didn't look at Yelp before buying tickets to the museum and a showing of the planetarium. My fiancé and I finished walking the museum in 30 minutes because it was full of children from camp. We weren't going to play or interact with the museums when children were there and it was sciences we already knew. I was saddened thinking it was a museum for adults. In addition, we absolutely bought the wrong tickets for the planetarium. We ended up at a KPOP Delon Hunters Laser Show. We didn't know what to expect. Whoever made the show did an exceptional job, but we wanted to see something that completely encompasses the entire planetarium. Ultimately, perfect for children. Not adults. The 4 stars is that it is still a great museum.... For children.
