For some reason every t-shirt I have purchased here never really fits perfectly like T-shirts from the same manufacturer (Adidas.) I can't figure out why specifically though. Am I being to picky, don't have the right size, my laundry method, etc. I have made multiple size purchases of the same t-shirts, changed laundry cycle and have kept buying t-shirts for the possibility that I may have had bad luck with individual T-shirt of the production lot. Nothing has changed. Something just feels off with the T-shirts they stock from my experience. I have purchased some of the same shirts online from other vendors to see how they fit in comparison-they haven't arrived yet. This is an odd review I know, but I just want to have it out there in case someone else is experiencing the same. Although it probably just me being overly picky. Thanks! read more

As a proud Rutgers grad, stepping foot into Scarlet Fever was a dose of nostalgia. The shop is small and the two sales clerks were not overly friendly or even asked if I needed any help (and I was the only one in the shop). But if you have an itching for anything Rutgers this is certainly one of the places to come. Here you can find t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and all sorts of tchotchkes plastered with either the Rutgers emblem or simply the Scarlet R. Me and my service dog were denied access to the store. I went in to get my medical alert dog a Rutgers bandana but when we walked in a woman (I'm guessing an employee or shift manager) said they don't allow dogs. I told her he was a service dog and she said he wasn't because he wasn't wearing a vest. I told her it wasn't required for a dog to wear a vest. She said that it was and that they didn't allow dogs because they pee in the store. I told her that that wasn't a properly trained service dog then and that my dog had never peed in any establishment. Then she went on to tell me I couldn't bring my dog in because she had her 16 year old dog in the store and her dog has a medical condition. I told her again that it was against the law to deny access to a service animal. She said without proper paperwork she wouldn't let me in. I informed her that there is no such legal documentation nor is it legal to ask for documentation and that by ADA laws you can ask 2 questions: "is this a service animal and required because of a disability?" And "what work or task has this animal been trained to preform?" This information is posted prominently on the ADA.gov website and is easily accessible. She asked me the questions and I told her that he was a medical alert dog trained for cardiac alert and she said that's not real. I once again informed her that denying us access was illegal. She told me that it was just store policy and she's just an employee. So my dog and I left. I didn't see it posted anywhere that only service animals were allowed. Until they inform themselves of the law and inform their employees I cannot recommend going to this store. (Also why is your 16 year old dog allowed to be in the store but my service animal isn't??) read more

I've been coming to Scarlet Fever since I was a student at RU in the early 90s and they always had a much better selection than the RU bookstore or NJ Books. I've bought some great items here, but WAY expensive-you can get decent quality stuff much cheaper at Kohl's, but you can't get the individual team gear, the selection of hats, or the fun chachkis at a place like Kohl's...which is one of the big reasons we keep coming back. I will say that I've been less than impressed with the staff that has no interest in helping you unless there is a manager/owner on site, just talking to each other by the register. Was in there last week and had I not greeted the girls at the register they wouldn't have looked p to acknowledge us. On a positive note, I HAVE had to return items to Scarlet Fever-for a size exchange-and never had a problem. Had to do it on two separate occasions and it was a fast, easy exchange. read more

Do yourself a favor, go to Macy's. The store has a nice selection and is located near the stadium...that's about all it has going for it. Purchased a sweatshirt here(among other things) and noticed that there were charges for two sweatshirts, so I had to drive back to have that corrected. The other sweatshirt was worn once and the stitching on the zipper started to unravel. Quite obviously a manufacturing defect, so we took it back to the store so they could send it back to Nike and I could get a replacement. Upon arriving the owner Steve inspected the sweatshirt. He suggested that it could be easily sewed and asked if we had a sewing machine. We told him we didn't but would be happy to leave it there so he could sew it. He informed us that he didn't have a sewing machine, but could probably go to a tailor who would "sew it for free". This man's business won't accept a return of its own product, but he expects another small business to give services away for free? Needless to say, I didn't make any of the other purchases I had planned to make there. Instead I went to Macy's where I found ALL of the items for much lower prices. Before you head here stop by Kohl's or Macy's or Dick's... Shameful business practice... read more

Great place to go to order Greek apparel! They've always been so helpful with me and the stuff I've purchased (tshirts, long sleeves, jerseys, jackets, bags, etc). You just have to make sure to confirm the colors/patterns that you're using so your stuff doesn't come out messed up. Considering the fact that it is the ONLY Greek apparel store around, you don't have much of a choice to go elsewhere. An order during peak will usually take about 2 weeks max, so get your orders in STAT! read more

This is a no-brainer, for all things Rutgers this is the place to go. They have a great selection of apparel and accessories and constantly get updated shipments. The owner Steve is a fervent fan and he really puts his heart into this business. They also recently renovated and the store is in a beautiful prime storefront location. read more

Scarlet fever was such a staple when I was a student at Rutgers, and 10 years later, I'm still a loyal shopper. They were such a necessity since I was Greek at school, but since then, I am hard pressed to find their unique style of clothes and apparel. I've given up trying to find cute women's clothes online or elsewhere, and refuse to buy Rutgers items from Victoria's secret (because everyone wears it!). Scarlet fever is my go to, and I have no problem making a special trip just to pick up a new Rutgers t-shirt every so often. They are the best! Named pretty aptly, this place is a disease alright. The owner here has absolutely horrible, offensive management. I ordered a custom Greek shirt, points to the color t-shirt I wanted and asked the associate if they had "that" color. I pointed to a specific color sample because it precisely matched the pattern fabric that I had purchased and brought in on my own. He said yes, so I said great, ordered the shirt and had it delivered. Nope, their 'violet' shirt is actually periwinkle. I had asked for a very light purple color, more like a lavender or pink than any shade of blue. Periwinkle is a color that I detest in every possible way for personal reasons and would never have chosen. The shirt came out ugly and looked so strange with the pattern on the letters I chose. Besides the fact that it looked odd, it simply wasn't what I ordered at all. The manager gave me an AWFUL time about this over the phone when the shirt came in the mail. He kept yelling (yes, you read that correctly, YELLING) at me over the phone about how it is completely MY fault for choosing the "wrong" t-shirt. I'm sorry, what?! They do not provide samples of their t-shirt colors, I didn't pull out a sample shirt from the racks and ask for that color shirt, I pointed to a color ring of fabric on their desk and was assured by the sales associate (who should know far better than I, who has never shopped there before) that they carried that precise color in a t-shirt. Clearly, I was in the wrong for not tearing the store apart to ensure the color was what I wanted. (end sarcasm here.) I ended the telephone conversation because I was in tears and had class shortly. So a few days later, I drove over an hour back to the store to try to work things out. Apparently the manager told the associates to re-do the shirt for me. I asked "So you'll send it back to me too, right?" and the associate said "Sure, yeah, no problem." Two weeks go by, and no shirt. At the time, I also had someone try to steal my identity. I was stressing out about handling that, so I asked my sister to do me a favor and call Scarlet Fever to ask about what was going on with it. She does me this favor while I take care of all my other, pressing financial matters. She gets on the phone with Steve, the owner and manager, who informs her that the shirt is finished, but there is no way in hell he was going to send it to me unless I paid $8 shipping. (It doesn't cost $8 to ship a T-shirt.) He then started screaming and cursing at her, going off on a tirade about parents calling because students were too stupid or incapable to do things on their own, lied about the entire situation that I experienced with him (which she knew the truth of, since she went with me the second time to get the order fixed), cursed at her and said awful things about me. My sister asked for his name, which he gave her. She asked if he was the owner, which he denied. (Another lie, easily trumped by a quick Google search.) He refused to send my shirt without me paying for more shipping, even though I was not the reason the shirt was messed up the first time. He then turned around and re-sold BOTH the shirts that were made. Not only did the store give me this awful load of crap described above, AND I am out $40+, but they also kept the fabric that I purchased and brought in for the t-shirt, and I know for a fact they put it in their box of "provided fabrics" for other people to pay to use. The owner really needs a lesson in customer service, and how to follow through on what your associates promise. Hell, some lessons in good manners would be a great place to start as well. How can anyone not love this store? We love Scarlet Fever and make it a point to shop here for our Rutgers apparel and RU swag. Since the store expanded years ago, there is significantly more room to shop. Those of you from back in the day will recall that it used to be a cluttered obstacle course- but times have changed! Love how friendly the employees are and that it is owned and operated by an alumni of the university, that is a hands on owner and nice as can be! Great selection of Greek apparel as well! read more

Worst customer service I have ever encountered! The philosophy of Scarlet Fever is that they are always right and if they make a mistake you it was the customer's fault for not checking the order. If you order from them make sure that you go with at least two witnesses and you double check the numbers they use for the colors. Remember when you sign an order you give up your right to complain! read more

Definitely order from Scarlet Fever if you want your shirts to come out wrong and you like being treated horribly! Completely agree with another reviewer - the owner of this place is horrible. The absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. My order was messed up and instead of doing what any other business on earth would do and saying "I'm sorry, how can we fix this?" he blamed the entire thing on me like it was my fault they got my order wrong. And of course he made no offer to correct my shirts or fix the problem. Avoid this place unless you like being yelled at by someone who made a mistake and won't admit it or fix it. (I just noticed this place also has 2 "filtered" reviews saying the exact same thing!! They should not be filtered - this is obviously legit and this guy has done the same thing to a lot of people. I definitely don't come here for the customer service (or lack thereof). The reason I keep going to Scarlet Fever whenever I'm in New Brunswick is the selection. Sure, you can buy generic Rutgers apparel at a variety of Big Box Stores. However, you won't find the variety of novel designs or the stocking-stuffer type gift items. It's a bit of a trade-off, I guess. 9 times out of 10, I walk in and don't even get acknowledged until I bring my items up to the register. Of the times I make a purchase, I'm only actually spoken to about half the time (the other half, the person is either silent or engaged in conversation with someone else and vaguely mutter the total I owe in my general direction). I'll be honest, though, unless someone does something absolutely horrible to me (physical violence, for example) or I stop wanting to purchase items with my alma mater's name/logo, I'm not going to stop coming here since they are, for better or worse, THE place to get the unique items. Which is probably why the staff and owner haven't stepped up the customer service game - they don't need to, they're still profitable as is. read more

They always have your stuff ready within two weeks (at most) and it always comes out really nice and the prices are reasonable if not better than online (plus you don't have to pay shipping!). Although she won't admit it, my mom needs a new Rutgers sweatshirt which is why it would be the perfect Christmas present. While I probably could have gone to Kohl's and gotten the sweatshirt for cheaper I'd rather go to a local business, plus they also carry accessories that Kohl's does not carry, such as ornaments and socks. My mom loves her 'lucky' Rutgers socks so I thought that it would be the perfect add on to her present. The staff was helpful and efficient. Definitely would go there again. read more
