If I tell you, as a new patient, that I have had certain procedures, I do not expect to be challenged and told that it is not possible because they wouldn't do it. There are always exceptions to the textbooks. So I had to provide the surgical report before he would concede that I was correct. As such, my initial diagnosis was not even feasible due to a past surgery that I initially noted I had. Also, twice, I was prescribed meds that I specifically noted I could not take. Finally, after an unsuccessful surgery, I had to go to another gynecologist to get the initial issue addressed and resolved. While I am sure he is a nice person, this was not the gynecologist for me, due to the experiences noted.

I had an abortion in January and felt pretty comfortable with the environment (aside from the janky elevator) up until the actual pre surgery examination. A few of these staff members really shouldn't be in this field. The quality of care I received was horrendous. The actual procedure happened and went smoothly, until I woke up in a massive amount of pain. I've have also had an abortion previously, and I knew that this level of pain was much worse than I had experienced. I actually threw up it was so bad. I expressed this to the staff and the doctor. The staff gave me pain medication which definitely helped, and when they took me back so the doctor could look, he was very condescending and told me that I was sensitive and that everything was normal. He made me feel like I was crazy. I was bleeding more than normal, and I told staff and they told me it was fine. Im still bleeding today. At my follow up appointment (which had been rescheduled twice) I got there and they were completely short staffed. I have previously worked in a medical office so I was okay with waiting 30 or 45 minutes past my appointment time. I was not okay with the receptionist telling me as I entered the door that they tried to call me to reschedule, and walked away before I could speak. I was also not okay with waiting an hour and 15 minutes past my appointment time in order to be seen for a follow up ultrasound that should have taken 5 minutes. I brought up my concern to the woman at the desk and instead of apologizing or telling me what was going on that required such a long wait, she said they were setting up my room and gave me a forced and fake smile and rolled her eyes. I noticed other patients who arrived after me were being seen. I was frustrated and felt unheard. When I was finally called back, I expressed this to the receptionist who handled it horribly, with a verbal altercation. I have never in my life felt so disrespected by someone, especially someone working in such a sensitive field, a field that requires compassion. I was put into my room where I heard her and the doctor as well as other staff CACKLING about the argument and myself. I wanted to cry. When the doctor came in (her supposed boss) he ignored what I had brought up to him about the receptionist and the service I was being given. Instead he stuck by her side and didn't apologize for anything. For the ultrasound, no warning, just shoved the device inside of me. He rotated the screen toward me to show me a massive fibroid that was in the same spot as my previous pregnancy. This explained the pain and the bleeding. Why hadn't he noticed it before??? Why after the ultrasound, did he not explain what uterine fibroids were? Why did he not explain treatment? Why was I not receiving care??! So in conclusion, DONT GO HERE if you want to be treated like a human being. GO HERE IF you want to be bullied, minimized, unheard, disrespected, and ESPECIALLY go here if you want the kind of treatment I had with a heaping side of medical gaslighting. She said okay, made conversation with me while my blood was being siphoned, and in less then a minute, I could feel myself slumping over immediately in my seat like I predicted would happen. She called on other staff members to help assist her and they moved me to an empty room right away once it was available. The attentiveness and care of the staff was great, my only gripe was when I was chided by another staff member for failing to mention that I had a tendency to faint, even though I clearly did initially.

FHBC is such a fantastic establishment. I know what you're thinking: "How on earth can an OBGYN be…read morefantastic? I dread my annual appointment!" Trust me when I say that the midwives and doctors at FHBC will make the experience much less uncomfortable than it might normally be. They're a very hippy-dippy establishment, so if that's not your thing, you may want to go elsewhere. They won't shove their ideas down your throat, but they do advocate childbirth in a birth center instead of hospital (duh...they are a birth center), breast feeding, and just about all other au-natural techniques there are. They really emphasize that their doors are open to anyone from any walk of life. They're warm and welcoming, and don't pass judgments. If you're not pregnant (I'm not) you can still use their services for your annual exam and, just recently, for primary care for the whole family (including men!). As far as annual exams go, they make sure the actual exam portion of the visit is very short. You won't be on that exam table for ages (thank god!). Instead of the drawn-out process I've experienced at other OBGYNs, they take a good 15 minutes before the exam to get to know you as a person (whoa! shocker!) and then about 2 minutes for the exam. Then they send you on your way! I highly recommend FHBC because every single staff member you interact with is friendly, and they really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. you can't ask for a better experience.

I scheduled the appointment but I ended up going to an Urgent Care facility and a Planned Parenthood just so that I could be seen right away. Both experiences were very poor. So you can imagine my relief at meeting a very thorough and pleasant Dr. Toni Mason-Jones. The moment I stepped into Woman to Woman, the receptionist greeted me very pleasantly. It is a quaint little office in a large building full of other offices. It was difficult to find at first because there's nothing advertising that Women to Women is in that building. But it's in there. The office is quiet and clean. The service is speedy and attentive. And everyone I came in contact with, as the name suggests, is a woman! My bad experiences still in my head, I felt nervous. But Dr. Mason-Jones' spirit immediately calmed me. She asked me the typical, invasive questions but she did so in a way that I felt comfortable telling the truth. It felt like I was talking to a girlfriend who really cared. She was thorough but direct--careful not to waste my time or hers doing procedures that I'd already had done. I will be returning!

Phoned in a prescription 3 times, phoned again and left messages with the receptionist and the nurse...never received a call back and never got the refill called in. If it was a drug for a minor condition, it would have been ok. It wasn't. Truly loved seeing Dr. Toni Mason-Jones as she is a thorough, caring and compassionate doctor. In the 4 years I was going, new people coming and going, but having to phone over and over to get a refill was the final straw. Again, Dr. Jones is a fab OB/GYN, but there is no way refills should not be phoned in.
