I have schat.net Internet service as of now, and I have to say... I truly am amazed at how OVERPRICED and UNRELIABLE their TERRIBLE Internet service is. I mean, I am completely dumbfounded as to how they think their shit is even worth anywhere close to $49.95. For this service it might as well be free. This is all just a rant, I mean it's not like I could create my own Internet connection anyway, but moral of the story is... Schat.net is not worth is, you're better off hooking up your computer into a toaster or some shit read more

We've been using Schat Communications for about 6 years and I can honestly say they are the best provider in the eastern sierra. They've always answered the phone whenever an issue came up and they've always helped us to solve it quickly. We've been working from home since March of 2020 and have needed to rely more and more on a solid internet connection as a way of life. Schat Communications has proven to be a dependable provider. We recently had an issue where we needed a tech to come out to check our wiring and our tech Luis Arellano exceeded expectations. He arrived early! He was very friendly and addressed our problem and fixed the wiring within an hour. He also wore a mask during the entire visit and was very respectful of our space. Living in a rural area can be brutal when looking for a reliable internet service, thank goodness for Schatnet. They came highly recommended by friends and family. I called on a Tuesday late afternoon and by Wednesday the next day I had the internet. The gentleman that took my call, sorry didn't caught his name, was courteous and informative. Our internet was down due to our old router and a faulty older antenna, and we scheduled service on New Years Eve. To put anything other than 5 stars would just be an insult. Luis seriously knocked out the park! Arrived on time (9am) and originally couldn't make a connection. But unlike others I've have interacted with Luis really took his time finding me the best connection. A nice, quiet place to satisfy your internet addiction when you're in Bishop. Looney Bean is often packed with climbers just after sunset and on rainy mornings, so I escaped here instead. $5/hr to use one of their five desktops or $10/hr to use your own laptop. I don't normally write reviews but have to give a huge shout out to Schatnet and their service tech, Luis. Our internet was having issues and after calling on Friday, made an appointment to have a tech come out and look at it the following Monday. Luis arrived early and was very friendly and considerate. He listened as I explained the issue and got to work immediately troubleshooting the problem. Even though the location of our home can be very problematic for getting an internet connection, he didn't give up until he had it working again, better than ever. Even the mountain lion which happened to walk by while he was here didn't scare him away and keep him from his task. I can continue to WFH and enjoy more wildlife sightings. It's all there is in Crowley Lake unfortunately. Just 15 miles away, in Mammoth, people can get gigabit Internet for $100 a month, but we have to pay $40 for 3Mbps. It's pretty terrible. Obama may have wanted to bring all of the US up to speed with true broadband, but Schat.net lags behind as I'd expect a local ISP to. They've promised updates for three years and nothing has happened. read more

Schat just installed internet in my house in Crowley Lake, and every step of the process was great. The person on the phone who took my call was friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and professional. I was able to get an installation appointment in 2 days instead of 2-4 weeks. Luis, the installer, did an excellent job. He was on time (no 4-hour window to wait around in!), completed the work efficiently and with high quality, and walked me through the process to get everything working. The internet service is working well and is providing higher speeds than I expected. The monthly price is very reasonable. I highly recommend Schat Communications! read more

I went in a few weeks ago to ask about having my hard drive read. My hard drive had crashed and pictures of my dog that had passed away were on there. I was told it would be 50 dollars just to find out if they could get the hard drive to work so they could pull the info off of it. And if the could get it to work it would be another 250 dollars for them to get me the info. I told them this was steep for me as I am on a limited income right now. As I was about to leave was told they would do it for 25. I decided to see if they could read it and went back next time was in town. I asked them to test it for 25 as I was offered before. I was told this was not possible and there was a minimum of 50 dollar fee for any computer that comes in. I also noticed the sign on the counter that said they would look at any computer for 20 dollars?! what gives and why not honor what you offered last time I was there? I live in a small mountain town and usually refer people to Schat for computer issues... Noe I will just tell them to wait till they can get to one of the bigger towns next time they have a computer issue. I really love supporting local businesses, and given how awful the big telecommunications companies are, I wish I had better things to say about Schat.net. I live in an outlying area and pay $50 per month for service that I can best call spotty. I've really come to resent the time I have to spend on the phone with Schat.net trying to get my service functioning at a reasonable level, and the time I spend waiting for them to call me back and/or wait for a service call at my home. One of their technicians said that I've been really unlucky when it comes to equipment, but other friends in the area have had similar complaints. It seems like my internet has only functioned well for a small portion of the time I've had their service (which is six years now), and whenever it does, I can expect shortly that there will be issues and I'll be spending another day waiting for a technician to complete his work inside my home. Internet service shouldn't require active participation on my part...I pay enough for it. read more
