Stumbled across St Johns. Ironically I used to attend St Johns back in the 90s. Sounds like nothing has changed. At the time I was the ONLY black student in the entire school. k-8. I felt like more of an attraction than anything. Definitely felt like the teachers were all harder on me than my peers. Mind you, I have never been a troubled kid, nor a bad student. I was considering allowing my children to go there but thanks to Lady L, I think I will pay more for another school rather than subject them to the type of scrutiny and racism I endured while there.

Their rules are broken for "non-Blacks" but a Black person is expected to follow them at all times. You and your child would be made to feel uncomfortable and bringing the issue to the staff only makes you feel more ostracized. I have been strongly considering sending my daughter back to public school. They claim to be more advanced in their studies than a public school, but my daughter is reading a book that she read in Public School three years ago. I am so disappointed in myself for choosing this school. The way that I feel treated by them is not against the law, but I do feel that it is a moral issue. Is this really the Catholic faith?

The individual classrooms are well decorated, organized, and full of educational toys. In addition there is a huge gym for indoor play and new playgrounds (one for toddlers and one for older children) that my children love. My children have attended a handful of daycares in the area due to covid closures; since starting ACDS in 2021 I have been consistently pleased with ACDS' compassionate teachers, routines, and communication. The director is strong in her leadership and vision. She is very easy to approach with questions and is also hands on with the children. I give ACDS a 10 out of 10.

Multiple teachers witnessed events over several months and 0 reported to DCFS until 1 finally did once a child had its head hit on the wall. The teachers have been "retrained" in mandatory reporting, but I'm not convinced a culture changes so fast. Even now that the abuser does not work there, we have been promised access to video cameras and that has not happened. I've generally found the staff to be very unfriendly and unhelpful sending parents notes like "Leave headbands in the car. This is not a hair salon." and refusing to help potty train saying, "Once you have potty trained at home, we will follow up." How does someone potty train a toddler only certain parts of the day?!?! I would not recommend this school.

We've sent all three of our kids to Busy Bees and couldn't be happier with that decision. The Montessori instruction fosters independence and confidence in kids. People are constantly amazed at the things my kids can do -- like putting on their coats, feeding themselves, their ability to focus on tasks, etc. -- at a young age. We currently work with Elda and Gisel in the Eggs classroom, and these two teachers and their aides could not be more devoted to the children they work with. They clearly love each child, and know them very, very well. I also appreciate Busy Bees' willingness to communicate and partner with parents. As much as Busy Bees has been instructive for my kids, I've also learned a lot from the Montessori method they employ and the caring, fantastic staff they hire. We are so grateful for this wonderful little school!

Luckily we did get a chance for someone to show us around. During the tour the only thing that I disliked was the amount of clutter in the cooking area and the bathrooms. The open space in the center was nice and the kids were really friendly. Service wise I think this site could do better accommodating family's with Teachers who only need some months of the year. This place would would rather lock you in for a full year. If you are in the Arlington Heights area and only need a few months out of the year don't waste your time here; your better of not wasting time and looking elsewhere. My youngest son is special needs, and I was particularly concerned about how he would adapt. His room leads worked with him regularly on the exercises and activities recommended by his many, many therapists to help him make progress, which was over and above what I expected. I also appreciated the "extra" fun events (like pajama day) and curriculum-focused schedule. I feel like my younger kids learned new things every day, coming home singing songs and sharing artwork, activities and new information. We would definitely return! *UPDATE* Was recently made aware by former employees that…read moreRoccio and other teachers indeed targeted my son, aggressively pulled him and other children, not providing adequate portions of food, and falsely writing up my son for things he DIDNT do when it was her son bullying my son and other children. Please save yourself the stress and your kids the trauma and don't enroll your children here! If I could give this place zero stars I would. There were a few teachers (if they are still there) that were great. In the 6 months my kids were there, there were many staff changes and 3 different directors. Rocio (director) targeted my son because of his disability (sensory issues and Autism). It was so bad we are considering getting an attorney for discrimination because of his disability. She would make up things that he was supposedly doing and call me countless times a day interfering me with my work, but then when either myself or my mom would ask about these behaviors the teachers had no idea or say that it never happened or didn't happen the way that Rocio told me. I was lied to from the beginning. This place is not an environment where you want to leave your kids. I brought my concerns to the director and stated that I was thinking of pulling my kids out more so my son because of unfair treatment and I was afraid that because the teachers didn't know what they were doing and how to handle my son I didn't want them to get mad at him and hit him or do something harmful out of frustration. She said yeah I understand. No reassurance or nothing. Most directors if they heard a parent say something like that they would immediately dismiss it and comfort/reassure the parent. She just wanted my son gone. I believe her son was in the same room as my son and I (as well as my dad and my sons OT) saw him countless times take things from my son or other kids and push and throw, but I guess because he's the directors son he gets a pass. I sent an email to her boss and didn't receive a response so I then sent an email to the VP of operations to which he stated that he told them not to respond to me. While I appreciate that he did try to work with me especially with payment arrangements, it felt as though they were targeting my son and would do anything to get him out. They also couldn't follow simple dietary instructions. My kids were constantly given cows milk (even though they were told about the dietary restriction upon enrollment) and would have diarrhea and stomach pains at least 3 times a week. The teachers would say oh maybe they drank it by accident. Do the teachers not watch when the 2-4 year olds eat to prevent these things from happening? Ms. Emily and Ms. Bri were the best for this school and ever since they left it was a train wreck. I pulled my kids out and they go to a much better place. My son especially is so happy and has had ZERO issues. Makes me think it was just this place and he was being mistreated. Enroll your kids at your own risk, but I definitely don't recommend. Look elsewhere and save yourself the headache.
