My daughter received a grant to attend this school. What I thought would be a great opportunity for my daughter, turned out to be a nightmare. If you are a minority, specifically a Black person, you and your child would not be treated like other races. Their rules are broken for "non-Blacks" but a Black person is expected to follow them at all times. You and your child would be made to feel uncomfortable and bringing the issue to the staff only makes you feel more ostracized. I have been strongly considering sending my daughter back to public school. They claim to be more advanced in their studies than a public school, but my daughter is reading a book that she read in Public School three years ago. I am so disappointed in myself for choosing this school. The way that I feel treated by them is not against the law, but I do feel that it is a moral issue. This school is absolutely wonderful! The school has a new principal who is clearly committed to fostering an environment of exceptional academic quality and a commitment to teaching kids about their beautiful Catholic faith. Now, I dont know if this is just because it is a Catholic school or what, but it is sooo CLEAR that the teachers INVEST themselves into the children there. I'd be willing to bet the public school children do not receive the same amount of attention and love and understanding and CARE that this school gives to it's children- regardless of whether or not they are Catholic, or if they are a child with "Special needs" or whatever. This school loves it's children, it is so clear. This school is absolutely on the up and up - you can see it in their rapidly growing enrollement numbers. read more

After visiting other private schools as well as the public school in our area when our oldest was about to enter Kindergarten, we knew St. John the Evangelist School was the right fit for our family. SJE is committed to academic excellence steeped in Catholic tradition. They provide a safe, supportive environment and promote healthy social relationships. The students are taught to respect others and take responsibility for their actions in addition to the school's demanding and curriculum. I am shocked that a previous reviewer said that the staff isn't willing to work with children with special needs. I have heard the complete opposite... I know my kids will reach their highest academic potential at SJE. Coupled with an emphasis on Catholic values - I say that is a recipe for personal success. read more

This school year (2013), we have two children enrolled in St John the Evangelist. One is in first grade and the other is in kindergarten. There were a few major factors that played a role in our decision to choose St John the Evangelist: 1) Class size: Last year, our son's kindergarten class was the first year they split into two classes instead of a single class and it helped in making class sizes that were already comparatively small, even smaller. The amount of attention each individual student receives is incredible! 2) The Principal was a delight in our interview process and has been an administrator and teacher in Catholic Schools for quite some time. She personally gave us a tour of the school, invited us to sit in classrooms to examine teaching styles (we visited multiple grades, not just the kindergarten). She is determined to get the best out of her staff and our children each day. She is extremely approachable and available to us, as parents, with any questions we have. 3) Our family's Catholic faith was a big reason in choosing to educate our children through SJE. It is truly inspiring to see our children grow in mind, body, and spirit simultaneously. We are truly grateful that our Catholic Tradition is integrated in their educational upbringing. One of the many success stories that we have with our son from last school year is that he was already reading beginner books by himself after just a couple of months of Kindergarten. I couldn't believe my ears when he started reading to me; it concreted our decision even further. Now that we are armed with our own experiences of St John the Evangelist, we wouldn't hesitate doing this all over again. We highly recommend anyone considering a private education in the area to put SJE on their short list of institutions for consideration. If you have a special needs child in any sense, this is not the school for you. The school's staff is not equipped or willing to work with children with Dyslexia, ADHD, Sensory Processing or other neurological disorders like these. They prefer to label them as "bad" children and exclude them from class activities. Even when professionals are brought in from the outside to work with the teachers to show them how to work with children with these needs, no changes are made on the teachers part and the children are made to feel "bad", "stupid", and sent home. We love ST. JOHN'S. Our daughter is happy there and is learning a lot from her teachers. Would highly recommend ST JOHN'S.

We are so happy that we found St. John for our 3 daughters. They are getting an amazing education in a safe, caring environment. The school has created a wonderful community, strong in faith and community service! We love all the extra things they offer to enhance their learning experience such as Grandparent's Day, Daddy Daughter Dance, weekly all-school masses, Candy Bar Bingo, Skating Parties, etc. It's a wonderful place for our children to grow up. We are so happy with our decision and are grateful to the caring staff who go above and beyond for our daughters' needs! read more

All fine except there is no air conditioning in many classrooms and no playground. Children run around a parking lot for recess. I hope they get everything for the 5 stars. read more
