My wife and I planned to come to Carmel and try each of the wineries. This plan went awry and it's Pats fault! After coming to Windy Oaks first, we were met with sensational wines and an enologist and humble sommelier named Pat! He explained each wine so well and took his time to talk to each group in a relatively crowded tasting room. Anyone who walks into this tasting room with Pat can tell that he cares about the owners, the business, and his craft. We felt cared for by him and we signed up for the wine club as well. He talked about how the owners are awesome and very happy to accommodate customers (within reason). Also, how it is a small family business and my wife and I loved that! We went to a couple other wineries, but ended up back at Windy Oaks and talking with Pat. Both times, we met very kind customers and had great conversations with each. Many walked in and Pat knew them and their orders. The ambiance and environment were top tier! If you're looking for a winery to meet great people and drink great wine, I'd recommend Windy Oaks. It's truly not even close. My wife loved the SLH Chardonnay. I loved many wines including the Clone 943, Reserve Pinot (MUST TRY), Mouvedre (MUST TRY), and Diane's Block! There's wines for many different palates here! They also take very great care of their members! We got some cheese from the cheese shop and enjoyed it with the wine as well. Obviously, Pat was a large reason why the wine tasting experience was so enjoyable! We will be back for great wines and hoping to see him again! read more

Well deserved 5 stars tasting! Very friendly service and elaborated explanation on the wine. The vineyard has been around since 1990's and they have 3 tasting rooms all together. The tasting room is neat and cozy, roomy and modern. We started with a rose Pinot Noir that was off the menu and it was really too much sour Cherry for me. However, everything else in the tasting menu from Chardonnay to Pinot Noir to old vine Mourvèdre, all smelled right, tasted great with a good amount of tannings and fruity taste. The Pinots even have a body that I didn't expect from Pinots. One tasting is $30 and if you buy wine from them for over $50, one tasting can be waived. Their tasting pouring is quite generous of 2 oz each glass, good enough to share as a couple. read more

We stopped by the Windy Oaks tasting room in downtown Carmel one afternoon recently and had a lovely time. I have known about Windy Oaks for many years and I wanted to introduce my friends to their fantastic wines, as well. The tasting room is well appointed... with beautiful vineyard photos, a small bar seating area, two high top four seater tables and a comfortable leather couch. They currently offer two flights... one of their Estate Grown wines and one of wines they produce with grapes purchased from local growers. Both flights had different amd interesting offerings and were terrific. Standouts for me from the Estate flight were the Whole Cluster Pinot and the Syrah, which is one of the most delicate and lovely I've ever had. I took a bottle of each home, for sure. Last but not least, Rachel was a wonderful, knowledgeable hostess. Never intrusive but always right there when you were done and ready for the next pour. I want to thank her again here for helping to make our afternoon in Carmel a relaxing and memorable one. We will definitely visit again soon and you should too! read more

Super casual and awesome tasting room. If you need to order a charcuterie board, they get great cheese from the Carmel cheese shop! Owner and her son are absolutely fabulous! Of the four winery tasting rooms we sampled on our long weekend to California, this was our favorite. Parking in Carmel was a nightmare but it was well worth it to get samples of this wine. The tasting room is clean and classy with great customer service. The Pinot Noir samples were our favorite and what we ended up having shipped home to continue the experience. read more

The host, the ambiance, the decor, and service are great but the wines served here are absolutely mediocre. Despite the fancy description from the wine, we found nothing good after a couple glasses of Pinot and Petit Sirah. They both have no wine notes and taste watered down. read more

Kelley was so friendly, relaxed and really took his time to explain their wines and what sets them apart from the rest. This cozy tasting room is situated in the same courtyard as Jack London's. It is a little hidden, but that's the way I like it! All the wines are local, and at the same time different for Carmel--all the estate wines come from Santa Cruz county. It was my first experience tasting SC county Pinot Noir and it ended up being quite a refreshing departure from the standard SLH Pinots served all over Carmel. I've been Windy Oaks club member for a while and this is my first time visiting the Carmel location. It's tucked away in the small courtyard area which isn't too hard to find. I personally like the location cause it feels little more private and reserved compare to other busy places on main streets. James is always nice to everyone, very fun to talk to and he knows the wine.
