Scheme is good for Girls Nights Out. It's not very family friendly and the prices are pretty steep for pizza. The pizza is Very good and the atmosphere is fun. The service is spotty. First of all, the scheme has the best pizza in town. My complaints is that 1) the waitresses seem to favor the regulars over the new customers so it would be quite a wait to get refills or even take our order. 2) Cash or checks only (no cards) is inconvenient in the 21st century. Its fine if this is your policy, but at least advertise this. I've heard the excuse of "we don't want to raise the prices," but there are ways around it. The simplest being charge slightly extra for credit card users. Most credit card purchases charge an additional 3-3.5%, just tack that on to the customer's charge (and let them know before they order that this is going to happen). It's simply a poor business choice in modern society. 3) The music is way too loud. I love music, and even enjoy most of the music that plays here, but it's a real problem when I can't hear what the person sitting next to me is saying or what the waitress is asking. When asked to lower the volume, they say they will but I've never actually seen them do it. I have average hearing (and yes I get my hearing checked once a year) and it makes me uncomfortable. From what I've seen on various reviews on various social media platforms, I've seen similar reviews dating back several years so it seems that the owner(s) aren't going to change anything, which makes me sad to say that I won't be back. I grew up in the Salina area and have been a fan since the early 90's. So much so, that my wife and I had our rehearsal dinner here! Yeah... I was allowed to pick the place! Well, I'm going back again tonight with my family. I make very few visits to Salina without a trip to The Scheme. It's worth the wait, it's worth a trip to the ATM and it's worth the trip! As a 55 year old retired soldier, I have had pizza all over the world. I was invited here in March 2018 and had the BEST pizza that I have EVER eaten... and it was only a pepperoni pie. Don't even get me started about the rustic atmosphere... you will feel like you walked back in time, strait into a Wyoming hunting lodge in 1930... and of course the service was great. We'd heard great things about Scheme, but in the end, wouldn't go back. A few things put us off, including the very limited menu (they ONLY serve pizza), the wait to get served (they estimate 30-60 minutes per pizza), the not-very-kid friendly atmosphere (although they did give us pizza dough to play with, which was a big hit), and ultimately, the pizza itself. This pizza is the best not only in Salina.... But it's in the top10 in the U.S... I live in Sonoma CA. Aka wine country we have some of the best pizza around. Scheme is top notch from start to finish! The moment you walk in the door it begins... The decor is absolutely Mesmerizing.. The locals are all welcoming and full of charming stories. This place, honestly, could be the best food experience in Salina, or one of the best restaurants in the state--if they just cared about service, if they just cared about being open regular hours, if they just cared about bringing the salads up to the level of the pizza. I've always heard this place had the best pizza in Salina. But it always seemed we would forget their limited hours and come on the wrong night. Finally we did get in. The prices were scary for pizza but thought just this once at least. We've lived in or near Salina for over 40 years, so why did it take us so long! I have to say it was great crust, but the toppings seemed "normal" as in, not anything special. We decided we probably wouldn't go back. Not because it was a bad pizza, just over priced. Scheme does have really good pizza. I enjoy going there (as long as I'm not paying), but it seems to be the kind of place that people love or hate. The wait staff is terrible!!!! It is a family run business, and everyone is related, so I'm sure that no one is getting fired for treating customers badly! If you are wanting to drink multiple beers, sit at the bar because you probably will only see your waitress 3 times the whole night! Make sure you bring cash, they only charge 35 dollars for a pizza, so they can't afford to give up the 3% it would cost them to take a debit card... Be sure to make reservations as well! This is essentially a large, cozy, western style pub. At dinner they only serve pizza and beer. For lunch they throw in sandwiches. Excellent New York style pizza. Two larges for 5 of us, including 2 football players who just finished a game and we had 3/4 of a pie left over. The crust is so good, they put honey on each table. Never done that, but it works. Only weird note: We walked in and only one table was occupied. The waitress asked if we had a reservation. We thought she was joking, but sure enough there were little yellow "reserved" cards on 75% of the tables. We found an open one, but during the hour+ we were there only 4 other patrons walked in the door. Never seen a pizza pub require reservations; must be a local thing. Service okay. Basically 2 gals running the place. Order seemed to take a while in that others were receiving their pizza 10-15 mins before we got our 2. Maybe they had reservations - haha. If we do this again, we'll order pick up and avoid the sit-down experience like 70% of their customers seemed to do while we were there. read more

Well the pizza is amazing, but you have to have a lot of patience. After asking on multiple times for our check, we resorted to going to the register and found that our waitress stopped everything to visit with her friends ( who were picking up their to go order ). Yelp is why we came to Scheme, so I feel I should give my feedback. Great pizza! We called in our order and were told it would be ready at a specific time (like 6:45, not just "about 30-45 minutes.") In fact, it was going to be fifty minutes from the time we called. Okay, except that I still waited another fifteen minutes for the pizza, after arrriving on time. Even still, it was very good. We got our to go and went back to the hotel. Small pizza was plenty for the two of us. The place was charming, in an old building, rustic, but comfy, has full bar service, lots of western and movie memorabilia around it. Playing Michael Buble music and had a huge stack of CDs by the stereo. Other items on menu were sandwiches and salads. Salads were good looking, but we did not try any. This is a weird, weird restaurant. The pizza is great - really outstanding, excellent crust, appropriate amount of cheese and toppings. Salad was average to good. But wow, the staff think they are THE coolest people to walk the earth and you are lucky to be able to enter their establishment and buy thier food. Obviously, this is an insiders' club - we have only carried out, and every time (3 I think) ALL the tables have "reserved" signs on them. Once I had to wait 10 minutes or so at about 6:15; no one came to sit at any of the spots. The guy ahead of me apparently was a "cool kid", he knew the cashier's name; she was super-sweet and chatty to him. She was not rude to me, but all business, frowning and with this DMV-like "I'm itching for you to bitch at me" look on her face. The pizza is indeed very expensive, they don't take credit cards and their hours are very limited. Food was good. Really good in fact. However, Scheme's gets 2 stars from me because of everything else. When you walk in the atmosphere is very unwelcoming. It was our first time there and we had out of town guests. Because you have to have a reservation on the weekends, your table is reserved, so no one greets you and assists you. The server was inconvenienced by our questions (Also no menu or beer menu for new people) and not really interested in making us feel welcomed or comfortable. When we asked for a high-chair for our toddler, she shrugged her shoulders and was really annoyed in helping us with that request and even suggested that we probably couldn't' use one because it was in her way. Once we ordered our food, drinks took a long time to arrive and our salads were not timely or appropriately served. We waited 45 minutes for our food. That's a really long time even if you're busy on a weekend. The price is significantly uneven to the quality of the product. If I'm paying $25 for a pizza, I would expect the service and speed to be better. Point being, the food was good, but most certainly not worth the price, wait, and unwelcoming environment There are plenty of other excellent pizza places in Salina that are way cheaper, faster and honestly just as good. This is one of those restaurants that have a lot of rules. Want a menu? No. Draft beer other than Blue Moon? Nope. How about an appetizer while you wait for your pizza? Denied. A specialty pizza with one ingredient removed? Sorry. A table without a reservation on a Fri/Sat night? Maybe. Pay with your debit card.? Not happening. The positives are a very friendly wait staff and the décor is fun. They were quick to replace beers, but a little slow on the soda. We have been there twice. The pizza was really good the first time, the second time it was pretty black on the bottom. Also, we had two onions on our pizza that were big thick slices, rather than being broken down into rings. THE most overrated pizza I've ever had!! I seriously can't believe there are people who like this pizza. I grew up in Salina and remember going there as a kid and thinking it was just ok. I went back recently and gave it another try with family and friends. What a huge mistake!! Service was horrible. The wait staff couldn't care less about helping us. We waited well over an hour for some of the worst pizza I've ever had. I won't say this for a fact, but I honestly believe they use imitation cheese on their pizza. It certainly looked and tasted like it. And, oh my god, was it expensive!! Let's put it this way...if the pizza was the same price as Casey's pizza, I'd still say it wouldn't be worth it. Scheme prices are outrageous for what you get. I wouldn't bat an eye at paying those prices for Giordano's in Chicago, which is great pizza, but for mediocre, burnt crust, lame pizza served at Scheme...don't bother!! I'd put them one step bellow Domino's Pizza, which is also horrible. And who the hell doesn't take credit/debit cards?!?! It's 2018 people!! I seriously have no idea how this place is still open.
