You could tell he cares deeply about the skating community and worked nonstop to make sure everything ran smoothly. The facility was clean, well-run, and had great energy. My daughter and I had a wonderful time meeting skaters and families from all over the Northeast, and the sense of community was something really special. Capital Arena features two NHL-size ice rinks and offers year-round skating activities. Public skating times are available Saturday and Sunday between 2 and 4 pm. As a new skater, I was very worried about falling. They offer tables that they put on the ice that you can use to balance yourself. They do not charge you to borrow one of these tables for as long as you want it. I had never seen one of these tables before, but it was so helpful. I did not fall on the ice and I actually made it around the park a few times. I am really happy with the city of Albany for making this skating rink available, and at such reasonable prices. For tubing, you purchase a ticket for a 2 hour block. They offer a lodge area with picnic bench style seating and have live music. They also have a full service bar area serving up adult beverages in addition to some hot chocolate and coffee. There's an outdoor seating area with adirondack chairs and fire pits if you're into taking a break or just kicking back and relaxing. Staff is helpful and friendly. On a Saturday, snow tubing tickets were $33, which is about on par with other tubing places in the area.

This place is it, it's still retro, well maintained with polite efficient staff both on and off the rink. They have a cute little toddler corner for them to skate their little hearts out. Respectful skaters and patient by standards the few time I busted my behind. They have skate crutches for 5 bucks. It's worth it. That being said they are not babysitters and children who are not able to skate independently and safely need to be supervised. The skates are good, but don't hesitate to make them aware if the laces need to be tweaked or replaced. There are very few things for minors to do in any direction and for very long distances, but even if there were more choices this destination should top your list. It's affordable, a healthy way to spend a few hours and fun memories to be made. They also do a wonderful birthday party during open hours or schedule a private time.
