WHYC offers you the best of both worlds. Your wedding day will have the view, privacy features along with outside catering options of your choice. This makes for a wedding experience that reflects your unique style as a bride and groom. It will be your decision as to how elegant or budget friendly you would like your wedding to be. Depending on the size of your party, you can choose an outdoor ceremony or you would need to assemble the ceremony indoors. The venue only holds up to 120 guests (15 tables - 8 to a table). This would be the only thing I would change. My original plan was to have the wedding outdoors (order a tent & chairs) place the chairs on the grassy area on each side of the walkway with the lake/arch as my backdrop. Since the weather was going to be nice, I cancelled the tent. Low and behold, forecast changed a few days before the event and ceremony needed to be indoors. I asked my guests to be seated at their tables for the ceremony. All went well, but this would be the only change I would make if I had to do it all over again. The venue is not large enough to have a Plan B indoors so you really need to take this into account. There is no separate ceremony room. The other thing to take into account is the flags on the wall. My friend who was helping decorate thought we should try to cover them somehow. I did not feel strongly one way or another. Glad we didn't go through the trouble to looking for a solution. On that night, no one really cared that they were up on the wall. Besides that, venue was beautiful and since I could decorate on Friday, I did not need to pay for a wedding planner. Extra savings!! This venue is a great option and for thousands less than other venues. I am glad to was referred to this location and I would not be happier with the friendliness, bar tender staff and flexibility this venue has to offer.

These two rooms are across from one another and that made it simple, elegant, and easy for guests. Multiple rooms to choose from to hold your event. They have bride and groom ready rooms as well. Initially, we were…read moreimpressed with the responsiveness of the venue, as we were planning this wedding while living abroad and would fly back two weeks prior to our wedding to officially tie the knot/move back to the US. This venue seemed like the best option, as they would take care of the decorations/food, everything. The full package. However, it seemed like as soon as paid the initial deposit, all responsiveness went out the window. Because I had an international phone number and couldn't call, we had to rely on email, which apparently they just never checked or never thought to look in junk (saying this after they told us multiple times that it went to 'spam'). Instead, more than once we had to trouble my husband's parents to travel two hours to go up and talk to them. We had family members calling them all the way from WA asking them to respond to our emails. Extremely disappointing for the price we ended up paying. Now, cut to the days leading up to the event when my husband and I were in town. Prior to this, we had been speaking with Erica as our coordinator. However, when we went in to check out the venue the day before to set up/make sure everything was in order, it wasn't. Also, Erica was nowhere to be seen. We never ended up meeting her, despite being told that she would be there to oversee the event. We also noticed that the document we filled out with all the wedding details (supposed to fill out at the month-prior meeting, which we struggled to set up in the first place because they never reached out to us) was largely disregarded and aspects were missing from the room, such as the chair covers/sashes (which Monica told us we weren't entitled to despite clearly going over it) and we had a dirty tablecloth on our memorial table. We were disappointed to say the least. NOW to the day of the event. We spent the first few hours of the reception frustrated and angry that the venue was so unprepared. The wine wasn't served with dinner, only shortly after, and the prime rib wasn't ready when all of the other food was being served. One of the waiters looked me and my husband in the eye and kept walking without serving us wine. When it came to the cake cutting, the knife for it wasn't at the table, despite them having a schedule for when the cake cutting would be taking place and asking us if we were ready. So, we stood up there awkwardly waiting while they ran to the kitchen, and then once we cut it, Veronic told my husband's mother that she would have to cut and serve the cake, despite being promised that it would be taken to the kitchen and cut/served. We also told them we would like to save the top of the cake but they said they didn't have a box for it? Crazy. Additionally, prior to the reception starting, Veronica was pestering my husband's mother because the final payment for the venue didn't go through, even though we had made the payment the previous day and they had noted it. Their processing company was having issues, and they had no right to speak about this to my husband's mother. Our finances are our problem and if they had an issue they could wait and speak to me or my husband. Lastly, the processing company would not accept our payment over the next few days. We ended up having to wire the money but then we ended up being charged twice, sending our account to a VERY negative balance. If we had been worse off, this would've been devastating.

We originally visited in early November 2015 and were blown away with the natural beauty of this place. We had looked at a couple of banquet hall/hotel like places before that I had not liked at all. I knew this was THE place the minute we stepped into the rustic restaurant for our meeting! Some highlights: 1. Location: Thunderhawk is rustic and beautiful! The patio is green and well kept and reception hall is equally beautiful with high ceilings and wood beams. They have a double sided fireplace at the entrance to the reception hall which makes for a perfectly cozy spot for a fall wedding and a great blank canvas for welcome decor during the warmer months. They keep Christmas lights outside which makes the outside beautiful once the sun goes down. The lighting in the reception hall is beautiful and warm! No need for purchasing or renting string lights or other lighting! It felt like we needed to do very little to make the space look great and provided the perfect casual elegance we were looking for. We ended up with our ceremony outside, but honestly I would have been equally happy with the ceremony inside, if the weather required it! 2. Planning: Planning with Jody was by far the easiest and most enjoyable thing about wedding planning. She was laid back, extremely helpful, and always prompt with estimates, answers to questions, etc. She was so incredibly accommodating at every point of the planning (food tasting, linens, coordinating decor pickup). We left every meeting raving to each other about how wonderfully easy and fun the process was! She is truly talented and a joy to work with! 3. Service: Thunderhawk was no less attentive and accommodating on the day of our ceremony. While other places allot you about 2 hours before the ceremony for set up, Thunderhawk let us come a few hours the day before to set up, because they did not have another event on that Friday. They had the linens and other included decor beautifully done. This made the day of the wedding so much more relaxing. They used my aisle decor to decorate outside after the ceremony and made my husband and I a plate of appetizers and put it at our table so that we could have a taste of everything! We were able to pick up all of our items the day after, so no worries about packing up the car on the wedding night! ...just a few examples of so many thoughtful, little details!!! If there were hiccups throughout the night, I was completely unaware! I only heard raving reviews from the guests. I LOVED EVERY BIT OF IT! 4. Pricing: The pricing per plate is very reasonable and there are no hidden prices, like many other venues. They have basic options with available upgrades. You are able to pick and choose add ons/upgrades quite easily. NO pressure to upgrade. When we got our final bill, there were no surprises. 5. Food: We got so many compliments about the food at our wedding! Chef Ann is truly talented! We were able to taste several entree options at a private tasting and tasted all of the appetizer options at a tasting open house. Everything was delicious! We particularly loved the Parisian salad, pecan chicken, and spinach lasagna! The gnocchi and carved sirloin were also very good! Several of our guests had allergies and they were more than happy to accommodate these! Everything was so easy and fun! The servers were incredibly attentive and kind. Simply wonderful people. I could go on and on, but I will end with saying that this is truly a hidden gem of Lake County! I can not more strongly recommend researching this place for your wedding, shower or corporate event! Thank you, Thunderthawk team for making my wedding day so beautiful and carefree! I truly got to enjoy and savor the day because of your hard work! Tips: The bathroom baskets were totally worth the cost and, in my opinion, would be more expensive if you DIY. Again, several compliments about these from guests! The fall dates seemed to fill up faster than summer dates, so make sure to contact them relatively early if you have your heart set on a fall wedding.
