Used the excavator bucket to knock at least 25 trees down, leaving them where they fell. Side of pond collapsing and cannot be filled. Huge holes containing water and silt that will cost me $6300 to level plus what I have to pay for tree removal. Paid him over $20,000 for this mess. Come to 2389 W. Horrible job! Cost was triple the quote. Left a mess and an unlevel average of 3 foot depth. Contracted for 100 foot diameter with 15 foot depth. Got a 50 foot diameter with a 3 foot average depth, 4.5 feet at the deepest but so unlevel can't predict even when you might get to the 4.5 feet. So, I cannot speak about their work because I did not have then actually come and do the planned work but I can tell you this, they have adapted through their experiences. They will quote a price and just tell you that you'll be responsible for the permits. Completely understandable. They will not even talk to you on the phone about anything before charging you a $200 non refundable fee that they say they will apply to the price of the job. Then they come out. They will walk around and discuss everything and can't remember if he left and then came back and discussed the quote or discussed the quote right then. Either way, They required a NON REFUNDABLE $1000.00 deposit for a job that would cost $5000.00 which is spelled out. And then they require you to pay the balance of the bill up front as soon as the crew arrives before they do any work. WHY IS THAT? But they do that for a particular reason. Which I will get to in a minute. Next, you wait until they let you know about the first permit. You pay for that. You then find out that there is a drain about 50-60ft away and they county has to send someone out to walk the area before they approve that permit. Then it gets approved. You then find out that the county requires a plan. Of course, it sounds intimidating. Schlicht knows that. They make it sound like it's a big deal and either you do it yourself and hope to hell you get it right, no really knowing wat it is that is expected or you can have Schlicht do it for you. So, I opted for them to do it. They charge a $500.00 NON REFUNDABLE fee for that as well. Must be something detailed. Well, I get an email from Schlicht to look over the plans to make sure it looks like we have been discussing. Know what it is? It's a Google map view of the area we are working on with a red oval drawn on it with a couple numbers showing the distance from side to side. WTF? $500.00 for that? I didn't complain. I just let it go and approved it. I wanted to get moving. Then, it kinda got late in the season so I asked if we could hold off till the ground was frozen so we wouldn't tear up the surrounding area. No problem. They are always willing to work with you. After several weeks, I got an email that there was another permit. A high dollar one. I thought we did all the permits. No, there was also going to be another one after that. So, I said screw this. I am not going forward. So, I asked if I could get any of my money back? I was told no. Absolutely non refundable as stated in the contract. So, there you go. I gave them a total of $1700.00 for basically nothing but a couple hours of filling out forms and screenshotting my arial view from Google Maps and drawing on that screenshot. NOT A BAD GIG. I wonder how many other people get bent like me? I'm sure they do this for a reason. I'm sure they'll tell everyone that I am a single issue and it never happens but I'll tell you what, you don't build a business by making people pay NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSITS and the BALANCE UP FRONT as soon as the crew gets to the site. Wish I never called them. Despite constant promises we waited months and were constantly trying to get answers on our own. Nothing but the run around. Pond is finally done, but not the shape I wanted and our liner has tons of large rocks on it, and air bubbles under it. Absolutely horrible experience. I had a pond dug by Paul. I was supposed to have a pond dug, a berm put at the road, and an aeration system put in. I got one of the 3 and have been threatened now, multiple times by Paul. If you would simply do what you agreed to do, this wouldn't be an issue. They left a huge pile of dirt mounded up in the middle of my yard and told me "The dirt is staying where it's at." Well Paul, that's not what you verbally agreed to. Then after I text him he threatens to defame the company that I work for. After those threats didn't work Paul text me a week later, after presumably seeing my reviews of his work online, and threatened libel charges.
