Please do not allow Schmidt Exteriors to place their company sign on your property. They told us we'd receive a $25 gift card in exchange for keeping the sign up for a month. It's now been over 3 months, and we have not received anything. I've left multiple voicemails and messages with no response at all. This company is unprofessional and does not honor their word. If they can't follow through on a small promise like this, I'd be very cautious trusting them with a major project like windows or siding. Think twice before doing business with them. read more

I did a lot of research and finally selected Mike and Schmidt Exteriors to replace my 30+ yr old siding with LP Smartside. Mike gave me great advice on materials, upgrading the look of our house and total return on investment. I'm really glad I went with Mike. He was great and his workers were great. They were all careful, professional and meticulous in their work. They cleaned up everyday and never left me wondering what what going on. Mike from the beginning gave us ideas to use in our siding project set everything up from the material and dumpster delivery . Pricing was competitive with the other price quotes I received. Mike' s workers never cut corners or time if they ran into a snag they would consult with me and gave me options to to complete the job . Mike would come by almost everyday to check to see how the job was going and if I had any concerns . What a great collaboration it was ! I am a fellow contractor but do not do exterior work for the most part. I asked Schmidt to come out and give me a quote for new siding and aluminum soffits and facia. I was stuck on an appointment and fortunately for them, I wasn't able to be there for the initial appointment. He was late, but my wife greeted him and explained what we wanted. The only caveat was that I wanted to replace my windows on my own along the way, which 3 other siding contractors didn't have an issue with. My wife was then presented with....whoa, whoa, whoa. That's not how I work. I'm gonna pass on this, I don't work piecemeal items. I do it all or nothing. I ended up hearing the whole thing on my ring doorbell. Incredibly ignorant the way he spoke to my wife. I just wonder if I would have been spoken to the same way. Like I said, I am a contractor of 34 years and can't even imagine speaking to a potential client in that manner. I will be happy to give somebody else the work, all the other guys showed up that actually do the work themselves. Just like me, I sell myself along with my reputation. With Schmidts' help we converted a porch with removable screens and storms ( but no operable Windows) to one with a combination of fixed Windows and casements, all double pane. 26 in all. By creatively combining fixed windows ( that don't open) with casement windows that open, they kept the unobstructed view of the original porch design, but saved a lot of money over replacing every space with an operable window. We can keep the windows with screens open most of the time, or quickly close them in a serious storm. Previously we had to remove the screen and put up a storm window every time bad weather threatened, or risk the floor getting wet. Work was carefully measured to accommodate the existing spaces, and they allowed me an extra day to pre-finish the small pieces of interior wood trim that finished off each window so that I would not have the hassle of protecting the white vinyl from stain and varnish. read more

While the result is somewhat acceptable, working with Mike was the absolute worst experience I have ever encountered with any type of service. Every request was met with argument, every issue was met with an immediate defensive posture and a propensity to blame someone else. I came to know that everything about my home was substandard, including my wife. The crews and the owner showed no respect for the property or the property owners. I had 6 windows, 2 picture windows, front door with screen door and Rain Drop gutter guards installed by Schmidt a few months ago. They put the pedal to the metal to complete the installation before Thanksgiving at our request. The installers were great and worked incredibly hard including finish work outside in an unexpected snowstorm. Great job on installation and cleanup. A separate team came in for the touch up and they asked if we had the wall paint for all of the rooms (we switched from window sills to a picture frame type installation, which left some unpainted surfaces where the old sills were). We were able to provide the paint and you can't even see where the touch up was done. The front door arrived with the wrong hardware, but Mike took ownership of the problem, tracked down the correct hardware and made sure it was replaced on the same day. I can understand why we see Schmidt signs on lawns all over our neighborhood. I would highly recommend. read more

The product (2 large Pella double hung windows) was fine. The installation had some issues. The installer added too much foam insulation around the windows that made the window bow. They came back the same day and started ripping in the windows. They left with both windows full of scratches and a lot of nail holes trying to adjust the window by shooting nails in it. They left my newly painted walls all messed up with hands prints and deep scratches that requires plaster and paint. I called and requested Mike (the owner) who sold me the unit to come and see the installation and the mess his workers left. He came 4 days later with a huge attitude. Start yelling and swearing and acting as if its my fault his crew screwed up. He then started blaming me for not having the trim installed. That was hilarious, i was so shocked to the way he handled the issue that i just wanted to laugh at his fat ass. Claiming the trim would not allow the header of the window to bow down from the excessive insulation installed. I finally had to kick him out of my house after i realized he is going to make a huge scene as he completely acted like a child. His big phrase was "what do you want me to do? on his way out of my house, he says "kiss my ass" to a customer that just put over $5000 in his business. He may seem like a nice guy when he sells his stuff, but he was a real dick once there was issues with the work. He got what he wants but should definitely be ashamed of himself for going into people's home yelling and swearing. Another example of how these dishonest contractors make a living. read more

We used Schmidt Exteriors last summer during our first floor renovation. We had our house resided, 10 Pella windows, and a Pella sliding door installed. Mike was great to work with from the start. He was straight forward, gave great suggestions, and came back with a competitive price. Even though we had some issues along the way (siding company delivered wrong color siding). Mike jumped in and got it corrected quickly without hassle. He also had his guys fix a window opening that was placed in the wrong spot by our contractor. I think that was the best part of working with Mike and Schmidt Exteriors, they were a down to earth company that didn't try and take advantage of little issues that came up during the job. If there was a fixable problem that wasn't going to break the bank, Mike would have his guys fix it because it was the right thing to do.
