Using off the shelf data wipe software is not an option in light of the verified instances when hackers still got through and mine financial and personal info. Found ILS and they are free for computers, etc. they take out hard drives, drill holes through them to make them unusable, and recycle all of the materials. They are friendly and helpful. They are out in Stead, which for some may be too far to drive, but securely having your electronics not end up in the land fill and your personal info being hacked is well worth your time.

They…read morewere priced out of their previous building and, while the new location is not as convenient, it is well worth the drive! The staff are very friendly, patient, and communicative. We had lots of old electronic items to discard, from numerous cords/cables to phone equipment to our kids' very old laptops and iPad -- they took it all to be recycled. We even brought along old, broken Rock Band gaming instruments and a broken electronic drum kit and were happy that they took them! All for free! The items they do accept but charge for are TVs (now $45 each) and CRT monitors ($25 each).
