REMOVE YOUR OIL TANK AND DON'T JUST SLURRY IN PLACE..and Reno Drain Oil Service will take excellent care of you!!! We decided to switch our 1977 home from oil heat to a new electric forced air system. Homeowners options are to slurry the oil tank in place or remove it completely. It was only about $1500 to slurry in place which is the cheaper yet RISKIER route. It's riskier because your tank stays in the ground and can at some future date (if not already and probably has!) leak oil into the ground causing a disastrous environmental problem that can majorly affect your pocket book and the sale of your home if you decide to in the future. We were going to employ RDO regardless of our decision about the tank but went with complete removal instead of slurry. The benefits of complete tank removal are that if you remove and not slurry, then you get to utilize the Nevada Petroleum Fund. If you slurry in place then you no longer have the support of the NPF and are assuming ALL responsibilities both legal and financial for any tank issues and cannot go back if you change your mind and decide to remove the tank at a later date! They are trying to get all home owners to remove their tank vs slurry and tackle any leak issues immediately and so they REIMBURSE for all costs minus a $250 charge for services. The only hardship is that you must cover all costs up front. Our tank had leaked in an amount way above "allowable" limits and our project cost us nearly $14,000. My wife and I opened up a new credit card and charged the entire project on it to get a bunch of bonus travel miles and just received the full reimbursement from the Nevada Petroleum Fund 17 days before the first payment was due and our card is now paid off in full. In addition, we have received a letter stating that all legal/governmental requirements have been met and so we have eliminated any future environmental or financial problems and if we sale our house, the new homeowners won't have any reservations or complications! RDO did such an excellent job that we can't even tell that they were ever there. They saved our sidewalk, driveway, and garden with excellent Backhoe digging and experience. In addition to the physical work on our property, they also handle all of the paperwork between you, them, and the NPF to expedite your particular case and get you taken care of. You only have to sign and return several documents as the project moves along in regards to permissions and acknowledgements of any oil contamination issues and work to be performed. They take care of everything and even had people working from home to expedite the paperwork during this crazy Covid-19 epidemic. Our entire project took approx 2 months from first oil sample to reimbursement from NPF. The process of removing a leaking underground oil tank takes a bit of time (you have a hole in your yard for a week or so while the soil tests are conducted) and is somewhat nerve-wracking (it takes the State a couple months to refund the upfront costs).
