This is my honest review of OahuSPCA. Overall, I believe they are a good organization, and I…read moreappreciate that they took in my kittens when I could no longer keep them because my landlord did not allow pets. However, I do have one major concern. Last year, I surrendered my kittens to OahuSPCA and paid $150 per kitten with the understanding that they would be placed into loving, safe, and permanent homes. Earlier this year, I unexpectedly came across one of my former kittens on TikTok. I recognized him immediately and spoke with both the content creator and the current owner. I was told that she adopted him from the Hawaiian Humane Society in Ewa Beach, where he was housed alongside his three siblings. This was extremely upsetting and confusing to learn. I entrusted OahuSPCA with finding secure homes for them, so discovering that all four kittens ended up at the Hawaiian Humane Society left me feeling shocked and disappointed. I truly cared about those kittens and only wanted the best for them. Knowing they were transferred elsewhere, let alone to the Hawaiian Humane Society, after I paid surrender fees and trusted they would be placed directly into homes, has been very difficult for me to process. Don't get me wrong, I still think that OahuSPCA is good, as they are a no-kill shelter, but they need to ensure NOT to place precious cats and dogs in the hands of the Hawaiian Humane Society, because of the history and treatment of unwanted animals, and overcrowding can lead them to put down unwanted and healthy animals, sadly.

The care provided not only failed to alleviate my pet's medical condition but, distressingly, led to a significant worsening and severe psychological trauma, necessitating immediate follow-up treatment at another clinic. My visit was marred by excessive wait times, totaling six hours for a brief six-minute examination. Furthermore, the charges inexplicably doubled the initial quote for what proved to be ineffective treatment and unsuitable medication. This entire experience at your location Oahu SPCA Wahiawa has CAUSED CONSIDERABLE DISTRESS to my pet and me, leading to additional financial burdens as we sought appropriate care elsewhere. I find this level of service and billing practices to be unacceptable and deeply unprofessional.

You can honestly tell that they care about the animals and aren't just doing their job. Dr. Uruu and Ka'ohi are amazing. They are professional, knowledgeable, and always take the time to make sure my dog is comfortable. They also helped make traveling with my dog so much easier. Since my dog was flying on an airplane, there was a lot of paperwork and requirements to deal with, and they helped us through the whole process. They made everything feel easy and smooth and took away so much of the stress. I am so thankful to have a vet and staff that genuinely cares about my dog. Waipio Vet Clinic has been wonderful to us, and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a vet they can trust.

I would like to add that in the original phone call on 5/5, I did request to speak to a manager or Doctor at least twice. Call me a Karen, but I really wanted to speak to someone higher up to see if an exception could be made but the receptionist told me that the managers and Doctors will not make an exception. Clearly, there is a break in communication there because an exception was made and Donna did mention to me on the phone call she had no idea about the scheduling mistake until I made my initial Yelp review. Reader's Note: I did not attend the vet appointment due to having a prior commitment so my MIL took Komori. Everything I state about the appointment is from her POV. My MIL said Komori was comfortable and well cared for and we were able to get all our questions answered about Komori's health. Overall, it seemed like a great first experience. Why did I take off a star? - Maybe this is just a personal preference but apparently they didn't give Komori any treats. At his old clinic, the Doctors and Vet Tech constantly gave him treats or at the appropriate moments to make him more comfortable. I believe that because this was a first appointment, to ease Komori's anxiety of a new place, new people doing random things to him, some treats should be offered or used to associate a positive memory with going to the vet. - After Komori came home from his vaccinations we noticed the injection site was swollen. We also noticed if we pet him a certain way at the injection site, he would yelp/whimper so it must hurt. This never happened at his old clinic which is a YELLOW FLAG for concern. This review is 36 hours after his appointment and it is still swollen. If this does not go down, we will be returning to check on it. Overall, if we don't come back to check on the injection site, we will be coming back for any follow-up appointments. Waipio Pet Clinic has obviously proven with past Yelp reviews that they are a great clinic, which is why we considered coming here in the first place (besides how close it is to our home). We are grateful for management for communicating with us and correcting the scheduling issue we had previously and look forward to growing a stronger relationship with them moving forward.
