I go into this store once a week for my lesson. The store is stocked with all sorts of musical supplies, books, and instruments. The store is always clean and the staff and owner have always been nothing but friendly. There have been times where my instrument needed some adjustments, and Miles has been right on whatever issue I may be having. Over the last year, they've made some expansions, especially in the service department. I've even bought two instruments from them, and I've sold back one instrument. I'm even grateful for the few restrooms that they have. They are always clean. It's a great store!

My son decided he wanted to learn guitar, so I got him a Squire Telecaster as a starter guitar. Two…read moremonths later, the jack came loose. I decided to give Grumpy's a try. Kevin greeted us at the door. (He keeps the door locked during business hours due to some issues he had.) He took a look at the problem and fixed it on the spot, no charge. After we left, my son and I both had the same reaction: He's not grumpy at all. A few months later, the neck pickup on the same guitar wasn't working. We left it overnight at Grumpy's and Kevin replaced the selector switch with a higher quality one than what was originally in there. I'll soon be taking into Grumpy's a Les Paul of mine that has an issue with the bone nut that needs addressing. I have no reservations in recommending Grumpy's for guitar repair.

He teaches both bass and acoustic guitars and does either 30 minute or 45 minute lessons weekly. He teaches all ages, not just children.

I've had other music teachers and they can make you feel like a benighted orphan struggling for acceptance at the hands of an all-knowing master. How many times do you want to hear 'NO!'? Jay's not like that. Jay has the chops and he lets you learn in your own best way. I'm not super interested in learning lots of classic songs but I really dig learning about theory and song structures. He always fits the lesson to my interests in a way that is still challenging. I think music instruction is a really underappreciated skill and Jay deserves recognition for the way he helps us learners down the road. On a practical level I'll finish by saying that it's always a straightforward affair with regards to payment and scheduling. He's very professional in that regard as well.
