3.5 stars. The pastelitos are good. Great flaky pastry, good flavor inside. I would go back for sure and pickup takeout, but probably wouldn't go in and order like I did today. It's a small place. I'm glad they made everything to order, but it was super awkward waiting there for my food to be done. The lady that runs the counter is a little impatient. Don't go there expecting excellent customer service. I can get past that since the food is good. There is a small discount if you pay cash instead of credit. The pastelitos are not exactly cheap. Bring cash qnd save yourself a little money. read more

I visited the new spot in Methuen, excellent staff, the pastelito I ordered was the pork and cheese. It was very meaty and tasty but for the prices they're charging for a small, small pastelito, they need to make them bigger. Mine taste just as good, I'd rather make my own at home. read more

Love it here... Dont go in expecting great customer service or anything because Javi and the team are so rude here...LOLOLOL - Jokes, dont stop by if you dont have time to hang out! Its totally a vibe and you are going to want to stay here for some time. Especially if there is a "challenge" happening that day! Where do I start on the food, the Pastellitos, Try the all (or dont, so that way they arent sold out when I get there) but Giving Thanks (their version of Thanksgiving - OMFG - LIFE CHANGING!) And the Birrialito are my fave. They are all good, Javi truly puts his foot in everything he makes so you wont be disappointed!!! The menu is forever growing everytime I walk in. School Street Foods: Empanada Excellence on the North Shore? Location: 618 Salem St, Lynnfield, MA 01940 I couldn't resist checking out School Street Foods, a new gem in my hometown of Lynnfield, MA. Word on the street is they've got some of the best empanadas around, and I had to see if they lived up to the hype. Spoiler: They did. The Sandwiches Chicken Sandwich: Crispy fried chicken paired with habanero honey mustard, crunchy pickles, smoky bacon, and melted cheese on a toasted bun. If you're a honey mustard lover, this one's for you. The chicken was seasoned to perfection, with a lovely balance of heat and sweetness. 9/10 Pulled Pork Sandwich: While the pork leaned on the drier side, the tangy sauce saved the day. And let me just say, the buns here are chef's kiss. 9/10 Birria Fries Crispy fries loaded with house-made birria beef, chipotle ranch, melted mozzarella, cilantro, and onion, finished with a squeeze of lime. These were heavenly. The meat was marinated to perfection, but the salt level was a tad high. Still, the portion size was generous, and they're a must-try. 9/10 The Star of the Show: EMPANADAS! Chicken Pastelito: A golden, crispy, traditional chicken empanada. Simple, satisfying, and full of flavor. Birrialito Pastelito: Imagine tender birria beef and gooey mozzarella wrapped in a crispy shell, served with consommé for dipping. This was unreal. They don't skimp on the meat, and the flavor was next-level. I'm already planning my return trip to try their buffalo chicken and cheesesteak empanadas 10/10! Overall Ratings Food: 9/10 - A deliciously creative menu with standout items and generous portions. This place has been on my list for months. I finally made it up to lynnfield for the fall festival where they were vending lucky for me. I tried the beef and cheese and am already looking forward to visiting their Brick and mortar location to try more flavors. The flavors are rich and delicious and the texture of the pastelito is fantastic. Fantastic. (Yes fantastic not one but two times). Really good pastelitos! Tried the 'giving thanks' and the pastrami. Wonderfully flavorful and perfectly crispy. They seem to do a robust take out business, but we ate in the dining room. All in all, very enjoyable and reasonably priced. read more

The Champions Pastelito is a flavor tsunami with Champions steak tips, cherry peppers, cheese, etc. and one of the most delicious things you'll ever taste (pro tip: get a side of chipotle ranch). The buffalito is some of the most mouth-watering buffalo chicken you'll ever indulge in. These are by far the best pastelitos you'll ever have, it's not even close. Chicken fingers also slap but are massive so if you're getting takeout, ask for silverware or eat them at home. Don't walk, run to School Street Foods! read more

School Street Foods - The Champions Pastelito - Puerto Rican Near Me - Lynnfield, Massachusetts

The food is mediocre at best and expensive. Outside of that restaurant's website has pricing that is deceptive. On the first page, there is a menu with prices. If you click to order online, there is another menu with prices 20% higher than the first menu. There is no phone number to the restaurant listed on their site. You are pushed towards ordering online. I found the phone number in the Google Knowledge Panel. When I asked about the pricing, I was told it was because the second menu is hosted by DoorDash, and they set that price, not the restaurant. The only way you'd know this is to scroll all the way to the end of the page to see the DoorDash logo. There is no other information indicating that you have been transferred to the DoorDash subdomain. The customer will not know that, and if you aren't paying close attention, you'll end up paying 20% more for your food, even if you're picking it up in person. Of course, they ask for a tip when you pay after they've gouged you on the price. I would never go to any restaurant that pulls on its customers. read more

Javier is a tic tic sensation whom my son has been following.He loves his energy and electric personality. Being of Hispanic descent I didn't think pastelitos were worth the commute. But boy was WRONG..you can taste the passion that Javier has for his dishes. He was not at the restaurant when we went but his staff made us feel like we were their cool cousins visiting and they prepared some delicious pastelitos.We were famished so we ordered the pernil fries. Tried the birralito, beef, buffalito, and the special plantain pastelito. All were excellent. The buffalito was spicy without being too much. The sauce for the birralito was great, and the plantain one subtly sweet! Can't wait to go back, but I will be getting to go next time, as the music is quite loud, and the seats a bit unconfortable. read more

The Chicken sandwich and the Bigger M sandwich are horrible, tasted awful. Pastelitos a.k.a empanadas are way too expensive for the size that they are. The Prices are to high on everything. Well, in a few short months they went from being open 5 days a week to being open all 7 and then this week rolling out a late nite menu Wednesday- Saturday until 10PM. I've had an assortment of different pastelitos and the Bigger M (a chicken parm sandwich). Everything I've had has been top notch. I was going to try out their collab pastelitos with Champions Pub but they sold out in 24 minutes. Forced to leave 1 star when it should be a 0. First experience was not great. Second experience was worse. Assuming the owner was not there based on the behavior of the staff (loud talking, loud music from kitchen, disruptive environment to customer conversation/experience despite being the only 2 people in there), food was mediocre, and when we asked for change (to leave a tip) the server took the money and never came back. Cannot go wrong with the pastelito's! Stuffed with delicious cheese. Barrila is my favorite. The chicken tenders are whole breasts pretty good but there's a specific spice in the breading that we didn't love maybe sage or fennel but it was overpowering. read more
