Honestly, this was a really relaxing and beautiful experience. The boat felt safe, the rigging was well maintained, and the seating was surprisingly comfortable considering you're sitting on a wooden sailboat. A cute seal even popped up to say hello!! Being from Las Vegas, I'll admit I had certain expectations about Maine. Blame the media and me not paying enough attention in history class, but I was expecting to see a few more lighthouses. That's definitely not their fault this is why expectations aren't healthy. a little part of me thought it was going to be two awkward hours of me feeling like I was talking too loud Instead, the crew was fantastic, the other passengers were friendly, and for a couple of hours it felt like we had all traveled back in time. It ended up being one of the most enjoyable experiences of our trip. The crew allows passengers to help handle the lines and raise the sails, which was a really cool touch. If that's something you want to do, be quick and be ready because those opportunities go fast! Just an FYI, if you have mobility issues, I would recommend using the restroom before setting sail. The boat's head (restroom) is located below deck and requires navigating stairs.The crew had a sense of humor and professional. kind of bummed they didn't dress like old sailors with pipes:) perfect weather, the scenery. We had a beautiful day for a sail on the open waters. It was so interesting to watch the Captain and his team hoist the sails and get our ship moving. It was really nice they even asked guests if they wanted to help with the sails. There is a small bar on board as well as a restroom. There is plenty of seating, and not a bad seat on the ship. We didn't see any wildlife, which they said was normal, but the sailing part and the scenery was fun. Captain Nick was informative and interesting. read more

Did the sunset cruise with Sean Andy and Max. It was a nice boat ride on a beautiful night. The cruise was relatively uneventful. The crew talked some but seemed focused on a couple of groups versus working all the different groups on the boat. A lot was shared at the beginning but it dropped off after that. Took an afternoon sail on the Appledore with a wonderful crew- they took us on a beautiful tour of the Penobscot Bay. We stopped in a local specialty wine and cheese shop before boarding to get some treats to bring on board to snack on for the ride. My wife and I enjoyed the 10am morning Sail and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. It was very interactive and the crew talked to all of us through out the Sail. Captain Sean and his crew Max and Andy were both funny and entertaining. I got to help Hoist the Mainsail and that was a BLAST. My three granddaughters had visited us in Maine many times but always in the late fall or winter. I had promised my oldest granddaughter Idun, who is now 6 years old, that when she came to visit in the summer I'd take her on a schooner for a day sail. I've sailed on my nephew Noah's schooner Stephen Taber for years and had shown Idun pictures from some of those cruises back when she was 3 years old, to which she responded with great enthusiasm. Finally this year, my younger daughter planned on bringing them here in peak summer, so I booked the Schooner Appledore weeks in advance. As it turned out, weather-wise it was the perfect day. And the Appledore turned out to be the right choice. With her broad, comfortable deck space, she was perfect for young passengers and the captain and crew were delightful and accommodating- plus the on-deck bar was a guilty pleasure for us adults. My granddaughters had a life-long happy memory, thanks to a perfect sail on the Schooner Appledore. And so did I. I highly recommend this vessel. read more

Ship was in really good condition so even thoght my wife was a bit tentative, once on board and moving she realized how great it was. I used to sail out of Camden on schooner vacations for a few years as a kis and it was some of the best memories. This is 2 hour pleasure cruise with drinks and beautiful views. Great fun! read more

Beautiful ship; skilled and attentive crew; a brisk breeze and spectacular Penobscot Bay all made for an outstanding sail. Appledore 2 is a solid, seaworthy ship (she's sailed around the world!) perfectly maintained and the largest of the Windjammer fleet, I'm told so we had a very comfortable as well as exhilarating experience. We never even got to the sailing experience! They canceled our trip due to weather and said we would get a refund. No refund was ever received. Schooner Appledore did not respond to my emails. The booking company that took our money was not responsible since they did their part in delivering the tickets (which we were never able to use). Do not trust them...at least not on land! read more

My wife and I were just on vacation in Maine, and heard that Camden was a beautiful place to explore. My wife had previously been to a Graffam Brothers Seafood restaurant, and wanted to go back. As it turned out, the entrance was facing the walkway down to the dock where Appledore Rita was moored. A few of the crew were there talking about taking one more excursion the next day, as they had been held up, sailing to Key West for the winter, by the impending Hurricane Sandy. We signed up and had a GREAT time. First, the boat is beautiful, see the photos uploaded on the yelp page. The crew is funny and very knowledgeable, making quite a bit of conversation with those of us on board. They also allowed us to help in setting the sails, which was a lot of fun. They were lightly stocked, as it was an impromptu sailing, but normally have all manner of beers and wine etc... to enjoy on the traditional 2-hour cruise out in to Camden Harbor/Penobscot Bay. One can view seals, eagles, ospreys and porpoises; lobstermen hauling their traps, and more!The weather was gorgeous, the views were fantastic, and we were on the water -- what could be better?? I highly endorse the Appledore line -- there are a few different schooners in the fleet, and RITA shouldn't be confused with LILY, also listed here on Yelp. At 86-feet, Windjammer Appledore are the largest daysailers. 3 hour ride, made it a little past Rockland, purchased lunch as well for my step dad, daughter & I. The captain and guy at the ticket booth were friendly and obviously experienced and knowledgeable. Ticket booth guy was probably the best of them all. Crew members on deck were kind of obnoxious. My two year old, step dad and I were one of the first's to sit on the boat and picked out seats we thought were comfortable and a god spot to sit. Red headed male crew member approached us and asked to move to a corner so a larger family can sit comfortably.... excuse me? That's not my problem nor were we even close to anyone surrounding us. He was basically telling us to move so the family of 6 could sit where we were sitting. After spending over $150 for the trip, I felt like it was a slap in the face to be asked to move for the sake of someone else. He then was noticeably talking sh*t to the family because I wouldn't move.... Besides that a$$, it was worth the money. Food was okay- female crew member working was friendly but not knowledgeable at all... Perhaps her first season. Saw some dolphins and seals. Overall would recommend just wish the crew members and captain had been more personable and lively.... They just seemed kinda sad. read more

Despite rough waters the crew never let our drinks go empty and managed to navigate us out and back to enjoy the sunset off the coast of Key West.
