The last thing I expected to find on a drive in eastern WA and OR! What was truly amazing is that our trip in was free of charge. I'll admit this isn't like Wildlife Safari in OR, as here the animals are behind fences and you'll not be feeding them as you can there. It's also a very short trip in, as you drive up a few minutes to a barn and then turn around. We'd driven by the gate multiple times and wondered about the place. So, we finally pulled in recently to see for ourselves. It's free, just pull in and drive the short section allowed to view some beautiful animals from your car. It's a pretty fast up to the turnaround and back out. I'm not really sure how I feel about the place. The animals I could see appeared to be healthy, with fairly large enclosures and fabulous views...although it's doubtful that latter matters to them. ;) I just wonder the nature of the farm...I'm allllll for any efforts towards animal conservation, but I haven't been able to determine if there's any of that here or if it's just someone's personal zoo. I love this place!! Easy to find. There were lots of animals close to the fence along the driveway. We saw zebras, giraffes, camels, reindeer (?), bison, etc. Super cool! read more

If you are in the area, stop by! As in drive through this farm and go slowly so you can spot the animals! It's free and located on beautiful grounds. We saw camels which are always fascinating with their huge humps; giraffes; zebras including a playful infant; several varieties of deer, bison, turkeys, pheasants and more! This is a drive through farm - do not get out of your car! For your safety and the animals, it is not allowed. Too bad other reviewers gave one star because they didn't follow the rules and were reprimanded. Now that I have been turned into Schreiners, when I'm with friends wine tasting in a Lyle we Always drive through the farm and enjoy the beauty of the grounds and spotting the animals. Amazing hidden gem in Lyle that's completely free! I love stopping here to see the animals after hiking in the gorge. The buffalo are my favorite. I just learned about Schreiner this year and now it's a new tradition in my family to stop by! read more

I just love it there. It's such a really cool place to go our little zoo in the Gorge.

We love visiting this little private and free safari experience every time we are passing through in the gorge! Our kids love it so much, that even when I pass through on my motorcycle, they ask me to send them pictures. It's a drive through zoo of sorts, where the wildlife are free to roam and you are in the cage of your vehicle. If you take your time driving through, it takes about 10-15 minutes, and you see animals such as deer, bison (not buffalo), zebras, camels, antelope and giraffes!! YOU MUST STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE. I don't know how other reviewers miss this point as it's been posted in several areas throughout the driveway for several years now. The animals look well cared for, and their grounds are well kept with all natural resources and landscaping. It's free, it's enjoyable for the whole family and it's conveniently located off of SR14, so do yourself a favor and check it out! read more

Cool place to visit but I wouldn't recommend driving too far out of the way to check it out. But if you're in the area stop by! It takes about 10 minutes to drive up and back if it's not too busy and you can stop and look. For free, it's legit. read more

I was with coworkers on a road trip, when the driver veers onto a driveway and asks us, "Have you been to this safari?" Safari? On the side of the Columbia River? I was so confused, but before I could ask what was going on, I saw a huge giraffe behind a fence. Then more giraffes...and bison...and zebra...and camels! I was in awe as we slowly drove our way down the dirt trail. When we reached the end of the trail, I see a farmhouse, a gravel parking lot, and a camel standing a ways back behind fence with a huge sign saying, "Turn around here". I had to get a picture of this odd combination. I scoot past my coworker and get out of the car with my phone. I took one shot, and suddenly hear shrill screams to my left. A crazed young woman is charging toward me, pointing and gesturing our way. "What is going on? Why are you yelling at us?" "HOW MANY FUCKING TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU PEOPLE TO STAY IN YOUR FUCKING CAR??!!!!" She's still coming our way and I'm thoroughly confused. She's near the side of our car, but kept her distance. She started to pull something out of her pocket. I started to think it might be a gun. "GET IN YOUR CAR YOU FUCKING BITCH!! I'M CALLING THE POLICE!! GO HOME YOU BITCH!!" It looked like a phone, but I had quickly moved back into the car, all the while saying "Calm down!" My co-workers thought she was high. Shaken, we wound our way back through the trail to exit the safari. It was only then when I saw the white signs on the fence, written in green, "Visitors must stay in the car at all times." I couldn't believe I didn't see them, but I guess I was too overwhelmed by the animals to even notice what was on the fence. An embarrassing mistake, but it certainly didn't warrant the chaotic wrath and verbal abuse of the meth head who attacked us at the barn. read more

Wonderful place. The animals have free rein to roam and get to come look at you, not the other way around. So much better than a zoo which always feel like an animal penitentiary. These guys are well taken care of and seem quite comfortable. You will not see all the animals who live there, but the ones that are out and about are fun to watch. Bring binoculars, stay in your car, and don't be a dick. I am grateful they allow visitors in, and hope other visitors' poor behavior (see earlier one star review - the signs are large and obvious, Shenane!) doesn't cause them to close the gates. read more

Enshane N. I'm so so glad I found this post. I was at their private zoo that day I believe it was October, you were driving a white van, my family and I were in the two cars behind you... So unfortunately I will have to very much disagree with your "version" of the story. And from my recollection, You got out of your car the whole way up to the barn, I even honked at you to get back in, you ignored my warning. When we preceded to get up close to the barns you were trying to get out then to take pictures, a man on a four wheeler approached you and, although I couldn't hear what was said he was very unhappy with your actions. You continue up to the barns (I would have made you leave then!) And you immediately got out again!!! A young lady(the giraffe girl) was out in with the giraffes, most likely doing her job, she very nicely asked you if you could read, to which you replied by laughing she asked you numerous times to get back into your vehicle Explaining to you the rules, You argued with her telling her you never saw a sign and you told her to F**k off and you were simply taking pictures. The girl did come out and did confront you, but stayed far away from you and your van and with her cell phone In hand she told you to get in you car pointing to the signs and said if she had to tell you again she would call the f**king cops, (I don't blame her, I was going to) you still showed no respect and continued to argue, I was shocked I am a no bulls**t person I wasn't going to listen to it anymore, I was going to remove myself from my car and simply help you back into yours and slap your face! I only heard alot of foul language from you (the visitor) I thought for a slight second you may have tourettes, I could not believe how you were speaking to this young girl. I have never seen such disturbing disrespect from someone, these generous people allow us to come in and see these beautiful animals, a special special place, they only ask you to respect the few rules they have and not only did you completely disrespect the rules, you savagely harrassed the people who work there and allow us to come, you were so wrong, and you are supposed to be a woman...hmmm I was very stunned at the (girl) employee, she handled it SO much better than I ever would have or could. My hats off to her composure. Actually after your dark cloud left we got to meet this young woman, she's fascinating and I would come back just to see her! So kind and sweet, told us about all the animals and schooled us on so many things were didn't know about giraffes! It was the best time we have ever had at Schreiners. Didn't think it could get better until this cute little blonde little thing pulled out.... A freaking kangaroo! Yeah a kangarooooooo! I almost died I swear! Just hangs out in his custom pouch, had a baby lovey with him so precious My kids went bananas! I felt so lucky that she shared him with us what a day!!! I don't feel right sharing her name so little giraffe girl!!! Beautiful girl inside and most definitely out ( I didn't see a meth head, maybe you caught you own reflection Enshane) I seen just a blonde haired beauty. My kids have been begging me to go back to see the giraffe lady lol! And we are coming soon! Everyone and anyone please just stay in your car, that's it follow the rules.
