At the same time, my Litespeed had great sentimental value and it fit me perfectly and I always intended to keep/ride it for a lifetime. After numerous internet searches and contacting as many Ti repair/fabricating businesses as possible, I am so glad I found and utilized the outstanding craftsmen of Ti Cycles Fabrication in the beautiful state of Oregon. First and foremost, they maintain excellent and consistent communications throughout the process. My main contact, Mr. Eric Herboth, was very professional and courteous every time I had an inquiry about what was to be done with my frame and costs. In addition, he provides that confident reassurance that in relation to ti frame modifications/repairs, he's done it all and seen it all. I'll admit, I was nervous about sending my beloved MTB frame to be modified as if you do a web search of Ti frame modifications, you'll come across a lot of shoddy work or read about unreliable shops that just take your money and hold your frame for months on end. In other words, if you value your Ti frame, be very careful in who you choose to modify it. Or take the simple route and contact Ti Cycles Fabrication to do it as they will modify your frame beautifully and within reasonable time. The modifications I requested were the following: 1) Add reinforced rear disc brake tab; 2) Add/modify cable guides along the top tube to accommodate a hydraulic cable; 3) Add cable guides along rear seat stay for a hydraulic cable and; 4) Remove old v-brakes bosses/studs After about two months, I received my new frame back and I was blown away! The modifications were done so well that it looked like there were no modifications at all but it was just a stock disc brake frame. The welds were all precise, clean and straight. Beautiful welding. In addition, I was so glad I chose to have Ti Cycles remove my old v-brake bosses/studs (originally, I planned on doing it myself with some elbow grease and sand paper). The removal of the old studs were absolutely seamless. Just so well done that I can't even tell where the old studs used to be since they buffed and polished up their work so well. Simply stunning. Finally, they reinstalled my old headset (the frame needs to be sent stripped down but I didn't have the tool to remove my headset so it remained when I sent it to them) and they did it with meticulous attention to detail so that the Chris King logo on the top and bottom cups were facing forward and aligned with each other. That is the type of precision any bike lover could appreciate! In terms of their pricing as I did shop around for estimates, they are not the cheapest but they are also not the most expensive. So I would say their pricing is more than fair especially when you see the results of their excellent craftsmanship. Thank you again Eric and Ti Cycles Fabrication! See you on the trails!

That's when I stumbled across this custom frame builder in Portland who was making exactly what I was looking for: a bike rack with wood slats. And let me tell you, these guys make some of the coolest bike racks I have ever seen! I called them up, and they were super helpful. We talked about what I wanted the rack for, what features I wanted in it, how big it would be, what kind of bike I had, and I was good to go. Unfortunately, these guys are so popular (and so custom) that there was a bit of a waiting list before my bike rack could be started (I think I waited 3 months). Plus it ended up being more money than I ever wanted to spend on a rack for my bike. Who spends $350 on a bike rack? I guess the answer is me. Oh, and they got my order wrong and built me a front rack instead of a back rack. So why, then, would I give a company 5 stars who made me wait 3 months, charged me way more money than I could afford, and screwed up and built me the wrong rack? Well, I called them as soon as I got the rack and informed them of the problem, and they were on it. I shipped it back, they cut it apart, rebuilt it ASAP and sent it straight back with a check covering my shipping costs. And now that it's all said and done and I have my rack on my bike, I LOVE it! It really is the coolest bike thing I've ever owned. Bike shop people are always coming up to me asking me where I got my rack. In the end, the thing is so cool that everything it took to get it has completely been forgotten. I love this rack! It totally looks like it came with the bike, yet it completely changed the look of my bike for the better. If you are looking for a bike rack for your bike that is the coolest bike rack you will ever own, I say go for it. Ahearne Cycles really does make the best bike racks ever! PS: These guys are also the people who invented the flask holder for your bike, which I must say is pretty fricken cool. Who removes the watter bottle holder and puts a flask in it's place? The answer, Ahearne Cycles. Sweet!

I took a previous bike, to another local chain and was charged for everything - new brake pads, cables, tires, and on and on - kinda like going to Jiffy Lube! So I was expecting to buy a lot of stuff, but it would be worth it. Turns out I couldn't be more wrong - the folks there are just like...yup we'll tune it up. Call you Wednesday. And they did. and charged me $95. That's it. I asked if anything was replaced, or new cables or anything, and they said everything was fine, just tuned it up! The brakes work great, the gears are smooth, the tires hold air, so hey! I am super happy. And they have a super cute doggo.

This is because I still have to ding the place two stars for two things. NO ESTIMATE The Beeline confirmation email promises an evaluation and an estimate before work begins. I never received an estimate. This whole dispute began as a billing dispute after Lectric eBikes refused to pay for all the warranty work and additional work was done. Had I been given an estimate listing additional jobs I could have objected then and a lot of confusion could have been avoided. Had I been given an estimate listing work Lectric was refusing to pay for I could have complained to Lectric. Instead, I was told how much Lectric would pay but not for which items or why they refused. This effectively leaves consumers in my position unable to constructively contest the bill. For promising estimates and not providing them I am subtracting one star. CALLING THE POLICE When I refused to pay a padded bill that Lectric had already agreed to pay, this shop tried to hold my bike hostage in order to get the money. That is highly inappropriate when dealing with manufacturers that you have a service partnership with. Everything Lectric and Beeline sends out in reference to shops like this uses the phrase "service partner" or similar language. Eventually I just took my bike and left only to get a call from the police later saying that this seems like a civil matter but that I will get arrested for trespassing if I ever go back to Nomad Cycles. The police blotter recorded the call as a theft complaint. That might have been appropriate had I not taken my own bike and the bill in question not included a combination of unauthorized charges and charges their service partner agreed to pay for in advance. Plus, I called Lectric the following Monday and tried my best to get them to pay Nomad Cycles what they claim to be owed. Thieves typically don't walk into a shop in broad daylight with no disguise, let the staff know exactly who they are, and try their best to get any debts owed of any paid by those that actually owe the money. For calling the cops I am docking this shop one star. CHANGE OF HEART I received a full refund of over $1,000 from Lectric eBikes because I took the bike from the shop and rode it just 4 times afterwards. That was all it took to suffer catastrophic drive train failure. Despite that, the bike still works in throttle only mode with no chain. It turns out that such failures are common when combining a new derailleur with an old worn out chain but nobody ever told me that. Unfortunately, the next time out the folding latch on the frame opened up on me 4 times. This was enough for Lectric to declare the bike unsafe to ride and offer the refund. I also think there may have been a misunderstanding with the owner of Nomad Cycles. When taking a glimpse at his internal notes it looked like he was accusing me of abusing the bike. That could explain why Lectric wasn't paying for all of it or why he wouldn't explain himself, but absent further proof those are just theories. What I do know is that Lectric promotes the bike for uses it wasn't built for which could make a reasonable professional in his position think that the customer had abused the bike. Lectric promotes its XP 3.0 model as an all terrain vehicle. Intended use is legally defined not just by product descriptions and what the bike's design is capable of. It is defined by what the manufacturer says it is for and how they promote it. For instance, Lectric shows XP 3.0 users riding offroad on sandy saltwater beaches, on gravel, in the desert, and across grass fields. That establishes that the bike is promoted for general offroad use. Then you have the blog post announcing the XP 3.0 which specifically says "tough terrain? no problem!" before saying that they're now adding tire sealant just in case. This makes reasonable consumers think that the bike is built not just for tough terrain but terrain so tough you need sealant just to avoid flat tires which makes the intended use of the Lectric XP 3.0 all terrain.

Looked around for a place to get my E bike tuned up and landed on Nomad. So I made an appointment through the link on the bike company website. Good thing I called Nomad because they had no record of it even though I had an email confrontation! But luckily they were able to get me in a few days later! I brought my bike in and after my initial encounter with the employees, I knew they were going to get a 3-4 star review. I had never been to Nomad, or literally any bike shop ever! And they were not very warm and welcoming. In fact, the mechanic who was working on a woman's bike seat when I walked in seemed very frustrated and not very nice at all. And I remember immediately thinking "it's 12:15 PM, they opened 15 minutes ago, how can this guy be so irritable so early in the day!?" Anyways I left my bike there and before leaving asked how long it would take. They said a few days. It ended up taking a week. However, when I picked the bike up, the two people working that day were super friendly and my bike is working great so they get a five stars! I'm hoping I just caught them at a bad moment the day they made their first impression on me.
