Inside you'll find all sorts of yummy fresh fruit and veggies based on the season. Their blueberries are delicious! Along with fresh foodies, you can pick your own blueberries if you'd like or grab a jar of one of their homemade concoctions. It was hard not to spend a ton of money on all their jams, preserves, salsas, mustards, bbq sauces.. you name it! My last visit I grabbed 3 jars, Honey Habanero Mustard, Apple Chipotle BBQ sauce, and Hot Pepper Relish. I've been a farmers market-goer for as long as I can remember and I'm thrilled how successful the Kalamazoo market has become in the last decade, but I really loathe claustrophobia-inducing crowds so I've been really enjoying hitting some of the slightly smaller neighborhood markets these days. Vicksburg has really hit the Goldilocks just-right point. Everything is represented but nothing's over-represented. They've got a separate section for crafters so if you're just there for food you can skip over the arts-and-crafts section and if you love shopping for locally made gift items, there's a spot for you, too. On today's visit, my friend and I were thrilled at the wide selection, ranging from smoked nuts to homemade gelato, baked goods to nicely priced local produce. I couldn't believe how big the kale bunch I bought for just $1 was. I won't be able to eat that much before it goes bad so I gave half of it to my neighbor. Really looking forward to tonight's dinner of tamales (served hot, even), and chips and guac that I picked up at the market, to be followed with a dessert of Michigan peaches and ice cream. La!

They are one of the only…read morein the area to offer no-spray, organic blueberries, both u-pick or picked (even frozen in the off-season. Prices are very reasonable. There are other fruits available during different times of the year, as well. The u-pick is done based on the honor system, which is very convenient if you want to pick in off hours. When we need frozen blueberries, we call and arrange a time to stop by the farm. Both Schemenauers are very kind, decent, hard-working people. It is worth the extra drive time for us to go to Bangor, when we have 3 blueberry farms within 3 miles of our house! We have recommended this place to many of our friends, and they have said it is worth the drive, as well!

We came for the u-pick experience and it was a blast, especially with kids aged 2,4,5, and 8. On top of that, the price was super reasonable at $7 for the small bucket, which you get to keep. Most interesting part of this experience was the fact they grow 4 different varieties of blueberries here, each with their own unique flavor profile! It was so fun to walk the rows of bushes picking and tasting the differences. The most unique were those growing in the rows at the back left of the sales shed. They had an incredible sweetness that made me say "wow that's what a real blueberry tastes like!" The staff offered a great explanation and we filled up the buckets and enjoyed blueberries everyday during our stay. We also checked out the store across the street and found it filled with lots of blueberry products. Salsas, bbq sauce, jams, jellies, cookies, pies, cakes, and of course, ice cream! They have several blueberry flavors made just for them by a local creamery, and the ice cream is great. This is definitely worth a stop!

They have buckets/ ropes for you while you pick. My family of 5 picked about two full buckets in an hour and we ate quite a few while in the field too (per Adam saying it's ok)! Portage's Vs Kalamazoo's Farmer Market…read more Portage's is a little more upscale than Kalamazoo's. The produce is well arranged and has more pleasing aesthetics. The chalk signs give it a quaint feel. Portage's seemed to be less busy than Kalamazoo's. There were a few of the same vendors (ex. the cheese, the chips/salsa/tamale and the popcorn vendor) and a few that were unique. Kalamazoo has way more food trucks and more "hand made" non-food items. Kalamazoo's is definitely bigger and has a larger variety of produce vendors. Winner: Kalamazoo's Farmers Market

Portage market started out so small, it's grown so fast! They even have sarkozy bakery ! Who can go wrong with that?? I love bringing my kids, letting them pick out what they want. You can use food stamps and they are doubled up, spend $20 in food stamps, get $40 in double up coins. I've been coming for this market for year. Just love it !
