Hopefully, by adding this in, it'll give this cute little lake some much deserved love. They call it La Lake Park, but it's really just a grassy area that leads to a dirt trail that goes around the lake. It's good for walking, running or hiking. I saw someone walking their dog, so I guess it's pet friendly. You can also ride your bike there. It's just nice to have a getaway within the city. It's probably 1.5-2 miles and it's good for if you don't want to run on asphalt, and just want a quick nature outing. My friends say you need to touch nature everyday! lol ;) There are no bathrooms, picnic tables etc. Nothing fancy. Just a quiet little nature spot in the 'burbs. So overall, 3.5 stars with a nice little round up to 4 stars.

Lots of the trails are still all ice so you have to be cautious otherwise it's a gorgeous park and was definitely quiet today. It's a popular place for horse riding as well as cross country skiing. We were able to walk out onto Lake Louise and see some sand hill cranes too.

Also great for hosting picnics! Several picnic tables under a pavilion, water fountains, and public restrooms that were very clean! A large playground for children as well. Not far from the downtown area. Street parking on an incline is available. Well kept!

The…read morebuilding itself has not been updated to the standards of many other nature centers, but I think what really matters is the nature part. The lake is literally a few steps away and there are canoes, kayaks, and other water sport equipment for rent. Fat tire bikes can also be rented. There's winter equipment as well. The walking paths are surrounded by trees and it's a great place to take the family. My son actually attends the pre-school program (Forest Kids Club) once a week here and he loves it. Unless there is lightening, the class always spends a good amount of time outside which I lo We attended the recent Fall Festival and had a great time tasting fresh apple cider and making crafts. We feel so lucky to have Wargo nearby.

Along the way are two medicine wheels. This park is a work in progress. While much has been done to restore the native prairie and oak savanna, more work remains. During our visit, numerous native prairie flowers were blooming but many invasive and non-native species were also present.

The park does have a nice overlook down to the river and you can walk the path down to the beaches at the river level. If you have a boat you can tie-up here though I don't know it you can camp overnight in your boat. The park did not appear to have a campground though it did have a number of hiking trails. No surprise that this time of year also attracts lots of mosquitoes! Overall an OK state park.

The trail down to the river is very steep. It is a long climb up. The river when it was frozen allows you to walk along the swampy area and see several bald eagle. It was also very quiet and peaceful.
