Several months ago, I saw Alex working over on Mendum Street near the Arnold Aboretum. I was very impressed with his climbing ability. He clearly was a very capable arborist. I contacted him to trim a red oak that was in my backyard (I live over on Leland Road near West Roxbury) Alex and his partner Megan did a fantastic job on the tree. He is very sympathetic to the overall heath of trees and cut back sections that would take off some of the weight on the side towards my house. He explained that doing more would stress the tree. Excellent service and high quality results: Schwan's Tree Care will be my go-to arborist going forward. Alex and team worked on 4 substantially overgrown large trees in my yard. They did an excellent job, taking care of damaged limbs, overhang onto the roof, branches near overhead lines, and low branches over sidewalks. They shaped the trees absolutely beautifully and now my yard has enough sun coming through that my lawn has a chance of growing back. They worked efficiently, had excellent communication, and were tidy. They opened up the trees without cutting back too much: it's clear they know a lot about tree health! Great value and easy to pay via paypal. We had a few arborists give us quotes and Schwan's Tree Care was the best one. They are understandably busy so they did need to book us out a few weeks ahead, but they did the job in the week planned and had excellent communication about a brief delay due to weather. We hired this company to trim back a large tree in our driveway. Estimate was performed and then we were told that we would have to wait several weeks, and that was after we paid a deposit. Initially, we were disappointed and the deposit was refunded. We were contacted to put this back on the schedule and paid another deposit. We had to schedule out several weeks in order to get on the schedule. The Friday before arrival, we got a text to make sure our driveway was open. Of course, we assumed that they would call when they arrived, but no such luck. I had hip replacement surgery that Thursday before, and we neglected to move the car. Next thing we know is that we got a text from Alex saying he drove by, and that they moved on to the next job. I immediately called to say we had moved the vehicle and could they come back. Oh, but no way. Where is the professionalism??? Where is the courtesy call to say, "hey we are there. please move the car." No, instead we get a text saying we would have to reschedule. What a bunch of terrible professionals. Customer service is foreign to them. We were told we would have to schedule in January. Stay way from them. I own multiple rentals in Boston and will eb letting al of my fellow property owners know what we went through. read more

Would have been five stars but he missed some large dead branches towards the top of the tree, so I'm still a little worried they still might fall on my kids while they're playing in the yard. *update: Alex came back and took care of the dead branches. I hired Alex to trim back a big red oak tree on my property last summer. He came by with a free estimate the day after I called. Price was reasonable and work was done about a month later--they were understandably backlogged with work from the winter. Invoice was paid electronically via PayPal which was a nice touch. I joined forces with my neighbors to get quotes from three reputable tree company's in Boston and Schwan's was the most reasonable. We needed multiple trees cut down and pruning of some truly massive trees. The owner Alex was a master. He was knowledgeable, extraordinarily careful, and I couldn't have been more pleased with the results. My neighbor agrees. He said -and I quote - "I am a very picky grader and I can count on one hand the number of times I gave someone a 10...These guys are a 10." Funny that my neighbor used the word "guys" because Alex's crew consisted of himself and two young badass women. Like Alex, they knew what they were doing and were extremely careful, and they worked hard to get it done right and on time. I doubt you'll find cheaper - I know you won't find better. read more

We hired Schwan's to do snow removal, and they informed their customers in January that they were no longer offering snow removal service. What kind of a joke of a company does that in the middle of the winter after people have already secured snow removal service for the season? read more

The fellows at Schwann Tree Care cut down a big ol'tree in our yard yesterday. Alex called it a declining box elder; we said goodbye to a bit of childhood - in it's heyday, that was the swing tree for neighborhood kids. Alex and crew were (as always - this is the 3rd job) prompt, careful, very skilled (fascinating to watch) and considerate about clean-up. We are relieved to have the tree safely taken care of, the neighbors are happy, the garden is sunnier -AND my bank card still has some life left in her! I feel really confident saying these guys are a good choice if you need help with caring for or removing trees. read more

I needed a tree removal and cut back for second tree. It looked like a tricky dangerous job to me - a limb on wires, play structure and house close by to miss. Alex came quickly to assess and make recommendations, was professional and friendly and strait forward, seemed to really know what he was doing with trees, and even gave a price that was reasonable and lower than competitors. He expedited the service as it could possibly have brought down the wires. He and his crew took care of it with confidence.
