We set a date and Roberto came right on time with a team of 5 wonderful employees. He had selected and bought all the plants about which we had talked. His team spent the entire day trimming my trees, removing a tree stump, and of course planting a wide assortment of plants and flowers. He uses vague language as to what exactly the scope of his work will cover. I tried multiple times, but failed to get him to spell out whether his price included what I had asked him to do. He throws in a "base price" at you for "what HE wants to do" but not what YOU asked him to do; then he wants to charge you extra for this and extra for that. Don't waste your time. Tree service companies are dime a dozen and there's no need to deal with unethical people.

So, they recommended removing three fruit trees. They did not mention that my town has a tree warden, that one needs a permit to remove trees larger than 8" in diameter, that there are stiff penalties for not complying. I only found out by accident and when I asked them about it they were flippant - "yeah the homeowner needs to do that..." like it never occurred to them to let me know. I have never experienced a contractor/tradesman not letting me know about needing a permit, rolling it into the cost and just doing the work. The penalties could have been in the thousands. Their arborist always seemed like he would rather be elsewhere. Never took ownership of the work. Never supervised the guys who actually came out to do the work. Didn't follow up unless I called him. Just checked out.
