My mom, drenched from the rain, quietly grabbed a napkin from the service station to dry her hair, and that's when I caught another staff member laughing and mocking her.Because, you know, kindness is optional here... We got The Best Hot Pastrami sandwich, and it was more than enough food to be shared between the both of us. The sandwich was cut into halves, and each half had what looked like a half pound of meat. The pastrami was stacked high, and it was so delicious. Nicely salted and fatty. If I had to be picky it could've been more peppery, but it wasn't bad by any means. I loved the sweet cabbage and house bbq sauce that it came with. The sandwich was amazing on its own, but those two accompaniments took it to the next level. Food is lousy. The litmus test for any Jewish deli is their matzoh ball soup. Theirs was atrocious. I think the broth came from a can. The noodles, carrots, and chicken were hard and tasteless and it seemed like they came out of a dehydrated packet and were dumped into the microwaved broth moments before serving. What about the matzah balls themselves? I don't even know what you'd call them. They were three small brownish gummy balls that tasted like raw matzoh meal. And all that for 15 Euros. How ridiculous. We also had a hamburger - way too salty and not so good. They brought us the wrong dish at first (geniuses)- their signature pastrami x and to be honest , it didn't look quite right either. We were standing outside the restaurant waiting for it to open. The signs were , naturally, in French and kind of confusing. One sign said Open 7/7 and the other had times in French that we surmised was opening at 7:30. So there was a man cleaning up the windows outside so we asked him. He told us 7:00. So it was about a 20 minute wait. Now I have a wheelchair but because the street and sidewalk is so narrow I had to stand and wait. The guys inside saw us because they kept looking at us. Stopped here after a walking tour when my family was famished. We ordered a Cesar salad, hot dog, pastrami sandwich and chicken burger... so not conventional orders at a burger place. The Cesar salad was fresh and delicious. The portions on the sandwiches were more than we could eat. Overall very good food and has a great decor. Only thing I didn't love were the children screaming for the duration of our lunch. We were sitting very close to the kids who were very upset and i know it impacted my perception of the place. Was on my way to L'As de Falafel to get a quick bite to eat when I stumbled across Schwartz's. I was on my own but I had a look at the menu outside and that immediately made up my mind. The great thing about eating on your own here is that there is a counter, so I was seated immediately (even though there were 2 groups of 4 before me). I had intended on ordering the veggie burgerm but they were unfortunately out of them, so I went for the Macaroni and Cheese and a bottle of Bud. The mac n cheese was really nice, sauce wasn't too thick, had some parmesan on top, and some very fine breadcrumbs as well...just the way I like it. From what I saw the rest of the food looked amazing. I saw some lovely meat boards, massive pastrami (de veau) sandwiches, and absolutely mind-blowing cheesecake. Next time I'm here...and there will definitely be a next time...I will venture further into the menu, and bring somebody else with me! read more
