I booked a live meeting with Calyn after having sent our info and previous year's return. Within 45 minutes, he had our return 80% completed, we supplied the additional info on the sale of a property, and we had a completed return. Whatever his reasoning is below is a sham. He should be embarrassed.. If I can leave a zero I would. I was in dire need of an accountant. I had not completed my returns in a few years after splitting up from my spouse. Finally I reached out to Christian for assistance. I selected him because I wanted to give him some help on Yelp for being a small business owner who had hardly any ratings. He had this speech impediment that struck at my heart strings and I just wanted to give him a chance. Good God has it been a terrible experience since then. I finally got to a point where I am able to purchase a house and the ONLY thing at this point was my tax returns. I work in sales so it takes a while to get to a point where you make enough in commissions that you can show a profit to be able to buy a house. Anyway, it took him over TWO YEARS to do simple tax returns. TWO YEARS! At this point, I'm invested in this foolishness. I just wanted this to be done. During this course, of course, interest rates gone up A LOT!!! Anytime I asked him to fix anything it would take a month to get them back. I think he does that so he can scan us out of money pretending that he was working soooo hard on these files. The $1440 was already inputted into the QuickBooks supposedly.. smh.. the more I think about this, the more I get upset because of his shady practices. It's unbelievable. He took me on for a ride, didn't deliver, took my money, had the lamest excuses why he could not do anything on time or a timely fashion. Shame in him! The supposedly e-filed them. He never once checked to see if the IRS accepted the forms. He assumed that it was accepted but two bounced back. He charged me $1440 for the returns. Which I paid. A couple of months later, I received a crazy high IRS bill when it was supposed to be nothing, I mean this bill is so high, it is the cost of a brand new car. I called Christian and we stayed had to call the IRS.. that was less than one hour. In this call, we found out two of the returns bounced back. To his surprise, from his lack of work, I needed to snail mail my return, and he needed to take my ex spouse off one of them. I saw him play with the numbers on a zoom call adding and removing my ex-spouse in under five minutes. I by is he trying to charge me about her $1500 for all this. So for $1440 you do four tax returns and then now $1500 for a quick one hour phone call and simple removal of a person?? The numbers aren't adding up. It's obvious at this point, he doesn't care about this (me) client. He's slow played me for two darn years and still hasn't gotten it correct. I texted him about how ridiculous this was and how shady his business practice is and you know what he did?? He put his wife on the phone and she started talking mad sh*t to me. He literally sicked his wife on me. She had the audacity to tell me I should have done my taxes. Uhm hello, that why I hired you guys. Not to waste two years of my life hoping this joker would do his job only to take me for my money and never ever delivering on his end. During the two years whenever I asked for him to call me or the status of my returns, he always had an excuse either he was sick, his wife was sick, his kids were sick, or back all over again, or in the hospital or he's in school, or the funny excuse was he was at his real job. I said real job?? I thought he was an accountant?? His wife said he works somewhere as an accountant. He doesn't have his own practice. So what has he been doing these past two years?? Pretending to be his own company?? It doesn't make any sense.. I still don't have my missing two tax returns and he g wants to charge me an extra amount for work he's already completed. People if you are reading this... don't use him. I literally wasted two years. I paid him already for nothing essentially. I have to find a new accountant and pay them to do the work he supposedly did already. So I'm paying double either way but I will not pay THIS man twice who obviously sat on my returns for two years. If I went along with him, I'd be eating probably another two more years. This is ridiculous!!!!

While my the…read moregentleman who prepared my taxes was a very nice man, he was not a professional by any use of the term. I have prepared my taxes on my own since I was 16, but since I was filing jointly for the first time, and I own my own business, I was feeling like I could use the help this year. I had met one of Jackson Hewitt's managers through my business, I decided to give it a try because the manager was a very good salesperson and seems like a very nice lady. I hope for her sake that she just follows Jackson Hewitt's guidelines, because as a company, they are shady, deceptive and unprofessional. My main complaint is that they are evasive and deceptive about how much tax preparation will cost customers. I asked at least three times for an estimate, and each time, they deflected or ignored the question. I should have noticed the red flag, but I was nervous about making a mistake while preparing my business and joint return, plus everyone seemed so nice, and they made me feel comfortable. This is how scam artists work. I should have known better. I had actually painstakingly prepared my records and had every transaction from the last year in an Excel spreadsheet. I had several hundred entries, however, I had every entry categorized. Plus it was a spreadsheet, you can manipulate and use math and a computer to sort and manipulate the data. It's what spreadsheets do. The preparer (who was late to my appointment) took my spreadsheet and he spent 45 minutes formatting and printing it using Google Docs. Jackson Hewitt's computers don't allow their employees to open Excel documents. I then sat across from this gentleman for 5 hours while he re-inputted every single line from my spreadsheet into their system. He had a couple of very simple questions about how I categorized each item, but in the end, I had already done most of the work needed for my return. I imagine that if I had stayed home and used TaxAct or TurboTax, like I've done for the last 18 years, I could have gotten my taxes completely filed in 2 hours and saved $500. Instead, he basically did unnecessary data entry for 5 hours. During the appointment, I again asked how much I should expect to pay, his response was "We'll work something out." Because I was filing jointly, I needed to come back with my husband to sign the return. This took over an hour as well. Finally it was time to sign the papers. Our bill for preparing our taxes came out to over $500. At this point, we felt like hostages...we'd pay anything just to get out of there...and fortunately, Jackson Hewitt was so kind as to allow us to pay just $50 extra to have their fee taken out of our return. So yes, we could have stood up and left right then and there...and yes, we should have. However, since I'd already spent around 7 hours of my time working on this, I just wanted to get it done and over with. Obviously, this is how they stay legal. However, I'm of the firm opinion that what's legal isn't always right. As a consumer, I will never use a company like this again. They prey upon the vulnerable. I firmly believe that the attorney's general should investigate this office. Stay away from this business and all other Jackson Hewitts. If you do need tax advice, go to a real, certified professional, not someone set up in a strip mall. Yes, taxes suck...and Jackson Hewitt is very friendly and nice, but to quote the Princess Bride, "Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something."
